Hargreaves would be great IMO. He and Davis would add the much needed experience in midfield, but we wouldn't be relying on him being fit all the time.

How much of last season did he miss due to injury rather than city just not picking him?

He passed a full on medical and psyche evaluation this time last year for Man City. Did not play very often in a very strong squad. Not good enough for us ? Really ?

No not really, he's not played all that much in what 4-5 seasons and im sure last season he came on then got injured so had to be subbed, was early in the season then i never saw his name in the paper as a starter or a sub even in cup matches. If he was fully fit and played like he did before he went to Man Utd yes he would be a great player but being out for so long and with his injury proneness it'll be a waste of a named player spot.

The problem with Hargreaves is that he won't stay fit, it's not possible. He's knees are totally shot, I'm surprised he hasn't retired if I'm honest.

If it's pay as you play, no harm at all, but don't expect many games from him if he does sign.

Oh wow this is exactly what we need. After all, Connolly is likely to move on this summer and we need someone to keep the Physio's in shape.

(But seriously? Pay as he plays? Oh yes thank you very much. The experienced pro we will need around the place)

DC was released a few weeks ago ;)

Don't there's much point in Hargreaves, too much effort for someone who isn't really in keeping with new saints singings (plus we have Steven Davis for the midfield anyway).

Hope the German agent is Rene Adler as the next big thing in goal :D

Probably someone seeing the Range Rover with a German plate parked outside SMS, doubling 2 and getting 5.

A strong a rumour as someone seeing a german plated car in the car park. There was a Spain plate a couple of weeks ago so it must be a Barcelona or Real Madrid player. Oh the car I saw was a small Seat so it might not be a Barcelona or Real Madrid player

I imagine the seats in Messi's car are pretty small. Maybe with a cushion on to help him see over the steering wheel.

They knew the Buttner deal was in trouble, so they are trying to sell us a German left sided player instead. However, it turned out to be an dodgy agent, and the player in question was in actual fact Prutton dressed as Lahm. ......here all week etc etc

thats sounds like BAAAAAAAAAD news to me !

Hargreaves would be a terrible signing. Plagued by injuries throughout his entire career. All when and good saying worth a gamble on a PAYP deal but we're only allowed to register 25 players, one of those spaces would be wasted on him.

who knows what managers do ..

Lawrie Mac signed Charlie George with a dodgy knee, and 'appy 'arry brought his son Jamie on for 30 mins. every game.....both cost us an arm and a leg at the time but neither of them proved able to get over their injury problems.

I don't think we will sign Hargreaves as he is very much not in keeping with the kind of players we look to be signing (young players who can improve [and yes, are 'hungry']) but if there was a manager who I was confident could help a player overcome any injury problem they might have, it would be Adkins.

TBF we have signed two players so far and only one is young who can improve.

I loved watching Charlie George when I was a nipper. Could still play a bit as I remember. How much would Charlie George in his prime be worth these days? Also remember things got worse for him than just dodgy knees. Didn't he take his finger off with a lawnmower?

I suspect our transfer policy is designed more to stop bad investments than to only buy players who can improve. Nothing wrong with employing someone who is right at the top of their game, as long as we aren't making a massive investment which will depreciate very quickly. Davies is 27 so unlikely that we would get a big fee for him in the future. But that's ok, because we've paid nothing for him. I'm sure our transfer policy would be more bothered if we had spent money on him.

On searching for Charlie George's unfortunate loss of finger injury, I found this related story which I thought you guys would appreciate:

Sunday December 5th 2004. Playing in the Swiss league, Servette midfielder Paulo Diogo scored against Schaffhausen, then jumped into the crowd to celebrate. On the way, he managed to catch his wedding ring on a fence and tore off the top half of his finger. He was booked for excessive celebration.
