Whats the best job you ever had

I worked for a few companies during the 2 and 3 g cell site roll outs days in the 90's. On the road most of the time. Money was no object to getting sites built. It was work hard, play hard.

Suppliers fell over themselves top take us out, Tons of corporate trips to footy, GP, Horse racing etc. Could be long hrs but very rewarding,Flying up to Glasgow for a day, then Newcastle the next day and so on. Would love to get back into a similar position hence i want to get into windfarms as the build is very similar to building cell site towers but only bigger.

Teaching dance / exercise classes. I enjoyed working as a dancer but didn't enjoy life on the road so much. But teaching it - wow! I earned sh*t loads of money doing something I didn't even think of as work.

Shame I ruined it all by going on a skiing holiday and buggering my knee :(

I've been pretty lucky. Some of the most interesting work I've done was at Ordnance Survey. The money isn't great, but the projects were unlike anything I've handled since.

Worked for design agencies ( companies that build websites ) up in the North West. Always very cool to do a site and then see the external marketing for it ( billboards, TV ads, etc ).

The job I have now has been the best for foreign travel opportunities though.

Every couple of years I do some work for the petroleum directorate here in Norway. it involves having a ten or fifteen minute chats with fishermen who work as contacts on their seismic ships, dealing with any clashes of agenda. I have to give them a basic level pass or fail in English, 95% of them pass and most of the test questions were written by somebody else. They fly me all over Norway and put me up in nice hotels with lunch and dinner included. The pay is close to a hundred pounds an hour plus extra for preparation and admin and the fishermen are great fun to chat with, I often go out drinking with them in the evening. The whole time I'm away, I'm also being paid for my normal job.

It's not bad work.

My granddad was Head Gardener on a large country estate.

During the school holidays and for a few months after leaving school, I worked there.

Picking fruit, cutting acres of lawns, marking out and mowing his lordships polo pitch - I absolutely loved it.

Unfortunately the money was rubbish but I've never enjoyed any job as much.

When I was in my 20's, my company paid me to fly business class all over the world as a Sales trainer.

Stayed in fabulous hotels and visited almost every country in Europe as well as Brazil, US, India, South Africa, Bahamas, Russia, Canada, Argentina & Dubai. I had a Gold Card on BA and the top deck of a 747 was a great place to be.

My job was to take a class and teach them how to sell our companies services. Often the locals would then take me partying in the evenings to show me their country and their hospitality (quite a few were very hospitable!)

I remember flying back from a Sales conference in the Bahamas in 1st Class (Business was full!), staying at that big pink hotel thats in lots of movies (cant remember the name). I was there for 4 days and the only thing I did was give one 3 hour presentation (on why Europe is great to do business with!) and just thinking "they are paying me to do this!!!"

I did that for 4 fabulous years and gave it all up to work in management................I know. I know.

Not exactly a great job, in fact it was mind numbingly dull - but at 18 I worked six months at Mr Kiplings on the pies lines. I worked 60 hours nights and made £274 in my first week - a fortune in the 1980s for a lad from a low income family straight out of college especially since my rent was £30pw. For the first time in my life I could afford to do almost anything I wanted. Heady time.

Best job? Still not brilliant (very few jobs that take you away from your free time are, I guess), but I used to be a passenger boat skipper in Windsor in my late teens/early 20's. I started as a crew, tying up ropes, a bit of bar work, and largely able to sleep for half an hour every hour, which was a doss job and loads of fun. Very social too, we threw night parties for anyone stupid enough to pay for them and it was so easy to pull birds. The lack of a stock system helped too, when we fancied a sneaky drink. As a Skipper it was even better, just driving the boat up and down in the fresh air, anywhere from Hampton Court to Henley. It was even better when i was sunny. The pay was shyte (as a skipper it was a bit better), the company was badly run and in the height of summer we were working 16 hour days, six days a week, but otherwise it was lots of fun. Winters sucked a bit, standing outside in the freezing cold painting the boats up, but all in all a good job, and I made friends there that are some of the closest I have. I get paid tons now in comparison, but every now and again I do miss it.

In between college and uni I worked a few weeks for Matthew Clarke drinks. Basically a driver's mate helping him out with the jobs, but my driver could do it himself apart from the loading of the van in the morning. Every pub would offer us a drink and he'd always order a beer for me. Basically, spent three weeks getting paid to get drunk.
