Paulo Gazzaniga - Officially Signed

The way the club conducts it's transfer business is awesome. As far as possible things are done in private and wrapped up quickly.

Saints sign a promising young keeper and cut out some dead wood at the same time. Fantastic.

So if you hear a encouraging rumour, don't spread it, you may contribute to scuppering the deal !!!

Here is the obligatory you tube video when a player signs :)

The saves aren't shown until the saves aren't shown until the 5 minutes 30 seconds mark. For some reason the first 5 and a half minutes are all to to with his distribution and ability to take the ball under pressure. I know this is never really a good indication to see what a player's ability really is like but I wonder would we be able to make a video like this for Tommy?

I think there is genuinely next to no footage available of him actually playing a game!

He is very calm on the ball and good at distributing, thats an area that is very important in the style we are playing.

Indeed, it was the thing that I liked the most from that video... intelligent and accurate distribution. Obviously not all is like that but it looks like there's a good brain at work. And he can quite some distance on his kicks too...

Possibly, as he would require a work permit otherwise and wouldn't get one based on Intl apps.

I think Argentines can apply for Spanish citizenship (a throwback from colonial days). Then again he has an Italian name, so maybe he has Italian citizenship, through his ancestry?

Are we really expecting him to be #1 before Kelvin and any 3rd keeper to still come in to be his junior, or is the main event still to happen ?

I think you'll find that Kelvin is first choice still, and Gazza will initially start at #2, but he'll get his chances.

Adkins mentioned 1 or 2 gk's. I think he was always confident on getting Gazzaniga in, i still think the other one is Butland we are after.

Least we have a backup keeper that isn't Forecast now though.

I guess in an ideal world he could do with going on loan to a Championship side to play at a higher level than L2.

we need to sign an Ian Rush (circa 1985), to go with our kit and we should be all right.

St. Mary's shop has already ordered black curly wigs and tache as complimentary with each shirt ! Ay, ay !

i think our kit is great and the days of fans looking like walking deck chairs are in the past. Just need to get rid of the sponsors logo

Good, a keeper signing, and Forecrud has gone. It's like two gifts in one go. We're one CB away from starting the season in relative comfortability, and four signings away from being a perfect side. (GK, CB, LB, Winger)

I've just realised our summer signings scan quite nicely into the Max Bygraves song Gilly, Gilly, Ossenfeffer, Katzenellen Bogen by the Sea.

It's Guly, JRod, Steven Davis, Gazzaniga and Nathaniel C.

Sing it, I dare you.

A healthy imagination you've got there but why do you include Guly? Just because of his new contract?

Yep, it was his name that inspired me to think of the song too. At 31, I shouldn't even know this song, but that's thanks to my parents making me listen to "Hello Children, Everywhere" CD's when I was growing up!

Well that's good news!

I imagine with Forecast going that confirms we're still after another keeper, I think all decent teams want at least 3 keepers they can call on.

Exciting times, and I think we have a couple of genuine ITK guys on this forum...keep an eye out.

That confirms nothing, if Forecast had stayed we would still need a 3rd 'keeper. He is awful to the point where I wouldn't consider him a 'keeper at all, just a leech on our wage bill.

To any Gillingham fans on here. We're sorry..... so so sorry.....

Apparently, the "undisclosed" fee for Gazzaniga is £1 M

So, less the deduction for Forecast's move to the Gills, that just leaves us with £999,999 to pay them

So considering we have an Evil Genius in charge, guess the deal was.

You want 1mil?

How about we pay off Fourpast's wages for the year, take Gazza and give you 500k after he plays 50 games and a further 500k after he is capped for England......

Yes, I know, that's why he's an Evil Genius

why....why are you sorry...he may well be alright for them

Most Grimsby and Thurrock fans seemed fairly unimpressed with his performances so I doubt that.

did we last year...or the year before that...or the year before that..?

Last season we only had 5 subs and played a lot of games with no 'keeper on the bench. Next season we have 7 and will get destroyed should we need Frazer or Morgan to fill in between the sticks.

Plus we could just about get away with playing Forecast in the Championship with a decent defence. If we could restrict the oposition to just 2 shots all game, Tommy would probably only conceed 4 goals.

I think he will turn out to be a really good signing. He looks like he has lots of potential and could turn out to be a great keeper. I might be a little bit presumptuous here but I would guess our keeping coaches or at least the facilities they use are of a higher standard than Gillingham's? Surely it can only help him being at Saints! Just out of interest does anyone know who is our main goalkeeping coach now?

Jim Stannard. Adkins namechecks him in the OS article... and, coincidentally enough, he was at Gillingham from 1995-1999 so I imagine he probably still has contacts up there?
