Paulo Gazzaniga - Officially Signed

I TRIED...no one seems to know about this..nor on the usual twitter sites

No news from other goalkeeping coaches I know.. Except a little titter about 10 days ago about us watching his progress a little closer than normal.

As you know nothing gets past us goalkeepers easily:lol::lol:

I know you have some connections in the GK world, so wheres your "clever money" going, for who or what we might end up with ?

Apart from our 'known' or at least publicised interest in Butland, and Gazzaniga, we have been rumoured with Dutch & German keepers, so the net is spread fairly wide. Possibly.

Butland is still the preferred target, but has his club priced him out of that? I think so

Paul Robinson was an option, but we seem to want a young keeper.. and that is problem as we all know keepers mature a lot later than outfield players.

I was extremely disappointed we didn't grab Brad Guzan when we had the chance a few weeks back.

Considering our preference for young 'uns we could end up with Kasper Schmicheal if we are prepared to offer him first team football, or we could get this Gazza if he prepared to play second fiddle to KD initially.

He does have a good rep as a complete box keeper.. something we haven't had for sometime with all due respect to Kelvin.

BUT IN TRUTH.. it has gone very quiet on our goalkeeping front.

My choice if I were Nigel would be to bite the bullet and go all out for Rui Patrício (Sporting).. and we have looked at him..

Yes, it would cost around £7-8m, but if you consider we are thinking of paying so much for Butland, it would be value for money.

Europe's best by far, and one whose ambition is to play in the EPL.

I reckon Rui would cost more in the 15-16m price bracket if I'm honest. Well out of our range at the mo.

Butland's value will also increase IMO after the Olympics, I think i'm right in saying that he's first choice? If he has a good Olympics then you watch the big, big clubs circle and Birmingham will be laughing all the way to the bank.

Patricio has a clause in his contract that allows him to talk to any EPL club bidding 8m euros.. Man Utd showed interest last January but refused to go over £5m for him.

Goalkeepers have not attracted the huge fees of strikers etc.

Your point about Butland and the Olympic Games is valid.

But imagine him having a Rob Green moment.. how much then??

More or less.. More 'Gatzaneega' I would guess.. Little /t/ sound instead of first z and the second z slightly voiced (from and with vibration from the throat).

I've just coughed up a tablespoon of phlegm trying to pronounce his name. This is gonna get messy on match days.

How the freak did you do that so quick? I copied as it came up & you STILL beat me to it!

It's a bit of a 'trade secret', and a tad geeky, but if you switch on notifications for a given Tweeter you receive the notification alert before the tweet appears online. (Just keep this between me and you though. I wouldn't want my posting prowess to be challenged by too many fellow nutjobs.)

Who would want to pay Big money for a keeper who had Rob Green moments ?

Sounds like a like for like replacement for Bart imho

Hopefully we will bring in 2 GKs as i really dont see this Gazza chap as an instant challenger for the no.1 shirt?

Might be wrong (im not normally)

IF he's good enough, why not ??

I was at the Dell when somebody called Shilton mede his debut for Leicester when they beat Saints 1 - 4

If I remember correctly he actually scored a direct v Campbell Forsyth

I hope Saints don't make the same mistake as they did with Bart

Early on, Bart WAS good enough, but season after season with very few competitive matches, no Reserve Team etc etc RUINED him

I reckon once he settles in at Notts County, he will get back to the form that made him Polish U21.

Is he good enough though? Nobody really knows (on here) and the Gills fans opinion seems mixed.

For me a Prem standard keeper should look outstanding in L1/2??

Just spoke to Kris Temple on twitter, who is also a Gills fan.

His reply was:

a season working with KD wld be beneficial, but could also easily play if he was required. Unproven over course and distance yet.

@solentsport: We understand #Saintsfc are close to completing the signing of #Gills goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga

In truth it hasn't.

Is that for real?! I usually like what you write Trousers - on this it's safe to say I love what you write! LOL

Argentinian goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga has this morning joined Saints on a four-year deal.

The 20-year-old moves from npower League 2 side Gillingham for an undisclosed fee and has now linked up with his new team during their French training camp.

Gazzaniga - pronounced Gass-a-neega - will train with Saints in Évian-les-Bains today with a view to being involved in tomorrow's friendly against Évian Thonon Gaillard.
