Wilfred Zaha - Crystal Palace (linked in The Sun)

You are right he certainly was injured and that led to his loss of form, then confidence and then more loss of form. It went on for a long time after the injury had healed. My point was that the bright lights of Lambert last season under Adkins can be countered by the lows of the previous season. It's not all been plain sailing. It matters not really, he's been bloody great under both managers.

The idea that Pardew's pre-season was to blame for his injury is ********. He got injured, so did a couple of others. It happens. Pardew was an experienced manager that had done countless pre-seasons before that one. I didn't notice his **** pre-season technique effecting Newcastle last season.

Various times over the last year, half te fuking team have made a point about pre season being right this time

You don't have to be anti pardew or a genius to know what they are getting at

And no, under Adkins, lambert not only stepped up to the NPC, not only did he become te top scorer, he was voted the best player in the league

So no, you don't counter the poor form the season before when the manager was not really there for the whole of it

As for that pre season. As said, it has been mentioned so many times by people at the club that this time it was right..

Why was that? God knows. Maybe pardew cocked up, maybe he mis-judged it, maybe he never gave a hoot, maybe Adkins is light years ahead of him when it comes to preparation, maybe pardew knew his time was up and did not bother or maybe he took the wrong advice

What ever happened, something went wrong as we were dire and had players not match fit as they should be for the start of the season. Contrast that to the season just gone and with largely the same players, we blew teams out of the water. Regardless of what went on in the north east

fair enough, you have a point about players making comments about doing it right, but almost every season poor early season performance is blamed on fitness and a crap pre-season. I don't buy it. Fans and players look for easy excuses.

Getting back to your original point of Lambert's performance under both managers, under Pardew he scored 33 goals, named in the PFA Team of the Year for League One, and won the PFA Fans' Player of the Year award. It's not like he was twiddling his thumbs under Pardew and then Adkins came in and turned him into a player. I already acknowledged he was perhaps fitter, but I think the difference in the quality of his game is not massive.

Getting back to the main thread, how much were Palace asking when Bolton came sniffing around in Janurary?

I think some see Adkins with rose tinted specs. Lambert went off the boil. Took a while to bring him back following a poor season start in League 1. Unless you're assuming Adkins gave Lambert his goal scoring touch?! He was good regardless of manger & both have guided him well. Who did most of very difficult to say & contentious.

And I think some wish to downplay the good job that Pardew did for us just because Adkins has done so well.

To be fair, a lot of people see AP through rose tinted specs. Ultimately I just don't think that AP and NC got on, AP knew his time was up and his heart wasn't in the job at the start of our second L1 campaign. To suggest that Lambert struggled that season due to his response to Adkins like some are alluding to is ridiculous. He had a hip problem which he still needs to manage carefully and he has only ever had positive things to say about NA and the club.

The whole pre-season thing was an anti-pardew spin campaign to win round fans p1ssed off at his sacking and our poor results under adkins.

Which "poor results" happened under Adkins?.

He lost his first match against MK Dons but he had inherited a mess from Wilkins and Pardew and nobody really blamed him for that game. At that stage of the season we had already lost 6 games. We only lost 7 more games in that entire season!!

I hardly think that a propaganda campaign to diss Pardew was needed to protect Nigel's record.

Or that the job he did was not sensational.

Lambert was not unearthed...fonte was a good one. But he blew everyone out f the water with money in league 1 and took 10 games to win one.

The wembley thing was a good day.

Pardew did well at saints. But IMO, Adkins has done far better

Whether Pardew would have had last season with us. We will never know

Be interesting to see how long the loony Geordies stick with him of they go on a poor run

Well if there is **** all to talk about re Zaha which there cleary isn't, why not digress?

Pretty sure it says "keep on topic". If people really need to talk about a specific person/idea etc that is the perfect time to start a thread that is appropriate rather than hijack another and take that off topic.

Isn't Clyne on a free? So we'd be paying £8million for Zaha??

Clyne is out of contract, but as he is under 24 years old Crystal Palace have to be compensated. That can either be sorted out between the clubs or taken to a tribunal - like with Saints, Oscar Gobern and Huddersfield.

Fair enough.

The Echo going with this 8m Zaha and Clyne bid story this morning. Do they really have a clue though? Such a shame that our local paper has naff all contacts or knowledge of anything going on at the club.

Just to enjoy reading their articles about 5 years ago but rarely both looking on their site anymore.

Not neccessarily - but I don't think they know anything that isn't public knowledge re Saints so have probably just taken it from another source ie the Mail.

Most local papers seem to get exclusives but the Echo don't. Last time they broke some news I think was the signing of Schneiderlin nearly 4 years ago.

Whilst we all agreed we needed a winger during the window and failed (mainly due to Oylston @ Blackpool) in signing Matt Phillips..

I got a txt off my mate the other week who was watching Palace on SKY, asking why Zaha isn't playing in the Prem?

Then saw this on Simon Peach's twitter...

Good to see @yungzaha in action firsthand again. He is close to becoming a very special player indeed. #CPFC will do well to hold onto him.

Wonder if we might switch our sights back onto him in January?

I assumed Mayuka was signed as our wide-man. (I know it's early, but all signs point to him as being played through the middle).

Will be a good play, still very hit and miss however. I watched him closely on Sky when they played Charlton, and he had flashes of brilliance but also a lot of crap. Would help him to stay and play in the NPC until the summer IMO and then move on next year to a team where he will be playing week in week out for in the Prem.

I think it will probably depend how well we are doing come Jan and where the obvious frailties appear to lie. I'm not even going to bother stating where they very obviously lie at the moment :-)
