Matthew Le God Posted 8 July, 2012 Posted 8 July, 2012 (edited) Well yes, it is The Sun, BUT they got the Steven Davis story right... 22nd June http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4387392/Southampton-ready-to-table-an-interesting-offer-for-Steve-Davis.html 6th July A case of throw enough mud and some sticks, or maybe they actually know something...? Lets see how far this story goes... Wilfred Zaha Linked in The Sun 9th July... Saints boss Nigel Adkins is eyeing the 19-year-old as his fourth summer signing as he prepares for life in the Premier League. Zaha was Championship Young Player of the Year last term. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4418068/Southampton-target-Wilfried-Zaha.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ficICfWGbg0&feature=fvst A poster on a Palace forum yesterday morning, long before The Sun article was published... Southampton have been talking to his agent in the last two days. Don't know if they've talked to club or not but expect there to be rumours of a Saints bid/medical etc in next few days. http://www.cpfc.org/forums/showpost.php?p=10385136&postcount=1668 Edited 8 July, 2012 by Matthew Le God
hypochondriac Posted 8 July, 2012 Posted 8 July, 2012 We are going to end up with a championship dream team ha.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 8 July, 2012 Posted 8 July, 2012 Good player, main question is if he will fulfil his potential I guess. No idea what his attitude is like.
Rasiak-9- Posted 8 July, 2012 Posted 8 July, 2012 Just what we need, raw talent with a bit of passion. I know he's got a bit of a reputation...but Adkins has worked wonders with improving the technique and attitude of every player in the squad. Morgan can tackle as well as pass, Lambert is leaner, fitter and smarter as well as powerful and a good finisher etc.etc. If there's ever been a Saints manager who I'd trust taking a gamble on a talent, it'd be Adkins, as for Zaha, he's got a lot of potential.

Appy Posted 8 July, 2012 Posted 8 July, 2012 I'd take him for sure, his attitude was at question at times when I saw him last year, but when he turns it on, he is something special.
doubleonothing Posted 8 July, 2012 Posted 8 July, 2012 Wow I saw this on twitter just now- Must be true....... FM Saints Researcher @MatthewLeGod #cpfc Wilf Zaha linked to #saintsfc in The Sun http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4418068/Southampton-target-Wilfried-Zaha.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter Interestingly 12 hours earlier on a Palace forum... http://www.cpfc.org/forums/showpost.php?p=10385136&postcount=1668
S-Clarke Posted 8 July, 2012 Posted 8 July, 2012 That guy on the Palace forum was also ''ITK'' regarding the Fonte deal all those years back, remember the name.
Saint Scott Posted 8 July, 2012 Posted 8 July, 2012 Very promising young man, his attitude could be s concern but under NA and NCs guidance who knows. Looks a very similar player to Taarabt to me though (attitude included) who was a massive flop this season in the premiership. I can't seeing them selling for less than £7million or so though.
Golden Balls Posted 8 July, 2012 Posted 8 July, 2012 Really don't rate him. He's still young I guess but his end product is often terrible and he covers that up by performing pointless skills....which often end in him losing possession.
Matthew Le God Posted 8 July, 2012 Author Posted 8 July, 2012 Is he predominantly a right mid? Can be used as a striker, which Palace did towards the end of last season.
SaintBobby Posted 8 July, 2012 Posted 8 July, 2012 Superb player. Am not ITK, but this solves our winger problem in a stroke. He's not merely a Championship player, he's one with bags of potential. Pretty close to being the sort of player we have lacked (not that we've lacked much in last couple of years)
Thedelldays Posted 8 July, 2012 Posted 8 July, 2012 Really don't rate him. He's still young I guess but his end product is often terrible and he covers that up by performing pointless skills....which often end in him losing possession. do you not think coaching that we could provide may help him I remember when Lambert used to shoot on sight within 30-odd yards... how many times do you see him shooting outside of the box now..? hardly ever
Saint in Paradise Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 IF he is as good as some say and only 19 I wonder why Chelsea and Arsenal haven't tried to buy him then?
Faz Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 IF he is as good as some say and only 19 I wonder why Chelsea and Arsenal haven't tried to buy him then? We're not really fishing in the same pool as them, are we? Also, at 19 he can come and play PL football with us rather than sit on their bench.
B Rabbit Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 a very very good player... That would be another superb signing if we pull it off
Turkish Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 This can't be true. It's in the sun, which is a newspaper and we all know newspapers are full of Lies and bullsh*t from lazy journalists with an anti saints agenda.
Give it to Ron Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 This can't be true. It's in the sun, which is a newspaper and we all know newspapers are full of Lies and bullsh*t from lazy journalists with an anti saints agenda. Oh FFS
doddisalegend Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 A skillful player ...with a bit of a **** attitude (IMO) seemed to spend to much time diving, fouling and moaning, in between bouts of good ball skills, every time I saw him play last season.
Pilchards Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 Aaron Martin going to Palace was a strange one I thought but perhaps it was because Palace excepted our bid for Zaha last month & the guy is back from holiday now?
Turkish Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 Whoever the forum user sitting on the 7.38 from Parkway to Waterloo, Turkish is on your carriage and just walked past you reading a thread.
Turkish Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 We are allowed to bid for more than one player at once you know.
david in sweden Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 Aaron Martin going to Palace was a strange one I thought but perhaps it was because Palace excepted our bid for Zaha last month & the guy is back from holiday now? there's room for a few part-ex's to any potential deal ..like Puncheon and Barnard for example.....
david in sweden Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 We are allowed to bid for more than one player at once you know. of course you're right Turkish. sometimes deals take months to set-up and complete...whilst with others..... the guy may come to SMS with a pen in his hand .. I'm pretty sure we've got another 3-4 potential signings on the go, and that may involve 6-8 " targets ", not all of whom may be suitable.
Sour Mash Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 Really don't rate him. He's still young I guess but his end product is often terrible and he covers that up by performing pointless skills....which often end in him losing possession. Agreed and from the little I've seen of them both I'd rather get Adomah.
SNSUN Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 We are going to end up with a championship dream team ha. Seemingly what Paul Lambert was trying to achieve at Norwich, only with Championship and League One stars. Zaha would be a good signing, he's still young and learning the game and I'd have faith we could mold him into a complete footballer.
thegaffer Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 would be a great signing as i have already posted in previous topics.
Professor Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 Can't imagine starting the season without filling the vacancies at CB and GK but RMF looks the weakest first choice spot. The Zaha rumour could just be based on initial interest but it does suggest the position is to be covered. If so, there could be three more signings after Buttner which would be more than the than the 'squad evolution' that NA spoke about. Six players in would be a real statement of intent. Maybe those who have doubts about Zaha are right but he is young, will mature and still likely to improve so he could be the replacement for Chamberlain that neither Guly or SDR have been. If not him, they do need someone like him on the right wing
dubai_phil Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 Whoever the forum user sitting on the 7.38 from Parkway to Waterloo, Turkish is on your carriage and just walked past you reading a thread. Has to have been Trousers. He's always posting in the mornings while on a train
Golden Balls Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 do you not think coaching that we could provide may help him I remember when Lambert used to shoot on sight within 30-odd yards... how many times do you see him shooting outside of the box now..? hardly ever Of course coaching could help him. Coaching could help me become a better player. But to Palace not have coaches? I just think we could do better. IMO he is overrated and gets away with a lot because he's young and people only remember the odd occasion he pulls something off. I'd rather we had Jarvis or Matt Phillips
Chez Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 Yes please. The most exciting talent in the championship in my eyes, Lallana apart. Doesn't strike me as a Nigel sport of player, but he has just what we need, pace, strength, the ability to do something a little different and tricks galore.
Marsdinho Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 These "attitude problems", have they been documented anywhere.
Saint86 Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 I have heard this also, plus i think he fits the bill. Young, talented and English - The Southampton Way personified.
Sour Mash Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 I have heard this also, plus i think he fits the bill. Young, talented and English - The Southampton Way personified. How many young English players have we bought?
Turkish Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 Has to have been Trousers. He's always posting in the mornings while on a train I don't think it was he looked quite normal. Anyway back to Zaha. Opinion seems be mixed. Is this a case of he must be brilliant because he's quick like Antonio or is he actually a decent player? I don't seem to recall him ever standing out in the few games I've seen him in but I don't know much about him.
Turkish Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 I have heard this also, plus i think he fits the bill. Young, talented and English - The Southampton Way personified. Does this mean we are going to have a squad full of Stuart Downings and Jordan Hendersons FFS?
saint.tom.clancy Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 He was awful when we played there last season, too easily wound up and nothing he tried came off. Didn't make me nervous whenever he got the ball as he'd sure enough lose it not long after, then lost his rag in the second half. Saying that, he's young and has bags of potential, and that was the only game i'm basing my opinion on. As long as we don't pay over the odds I'd have no complaints.
Thedelldays Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 I have heard this also, plus i think he fits the bill. Young, talented and English - The Southampton Way personified. apart from hooiveld....and fox.....oh, and tadanari lee....dont forget Buttner (if he signs).....steve davis is N.Irish too....... steve de ridder can't play for England... apart from that, yeah, the southampton way and all that
shurlock Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 Aaron Martin going to Palace was a strange one I thought but perhaps it was because Palace excepted our bid for Zaha last month & the guy is back from holiday now? Doubt Martin has anything to do it - or even a Clyne deal or whatever nonsense people were claiming. IF we get Zaha, Puncheon is more likely to feature in any exchange. FWIW I think Zaha's overrated but maybe he'll be more of a threat in a team that has goal options - Palace have hardly been prolific.
Thedelldays Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 Of course coaching could help him. Coaching could help me become a better player. But to Palace not have coaches? I just think we could do better. IMO he is overrated and gets away with a lot because he's young and people only remember the odd occasion he pulls something off. I'd rather we had Jarvis or Matt Phillips I suspect so...but probably not as good at saints. like the reason why lambert was a better player for saints in league 1 than he ever was at rovers
trousers Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 Has to have been Trousers. He's always posting in the mornings while on a train I can't see Turkish being allowed into my first class carriage somehow....
PhilippineSaint Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 I can't see Turkish being allowed into my first class carriage somehow.... would he not be the porter or ticket collector?
saint_disco123 Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 yes yes yes and yes again, my CP mate rates him highly and at the age of 19 will just keep getting better and better, this could be one of my favuite signings (if it happens) next to when we signed Lambert!
DT Posted 9 July, 2012 Posted 9 July, 2012 God, yes please. He'd be an excellent signing. Quite keen for a bit of keeper news though, and maybe CB
