Saints boss Nigel Adkins is eyeing the 19-year-old as his fourth summer signing as he prepares for life in the Premier League.

 

Zaha was Championship Young Player of the Year last term.

A poster on a Palace forum yesterday morning, long before The Sun article was published...

 

Southampton have been talking to his agent in the last two days.

 

Don't know if they've talked to club or not but expect there to be rumours of a Saints bid/medical etc in next few days.

Just what we need, raw talent with a bit of passion.

 

I know he's got a bit of a reputation...but Adkins has worked wonders with improving the technique and attitude of every player in the squad. Morgan can tackle as well as pass, Lambert is leaner, fitter and smarter as well as powerful and a good finisher etc.etc.

 

If there's ever been a Saints manager who I'd trust taking a gamble on a talent, it'd be Adkins, as for Zaha, he's got a lot of potential.

I'd take him for sure, his attitude was at question at times when I saw him last year, but when he turns it on, he is something special.

Very promising young man, his attitude could be s concern but under NA and NCs guidance who knows. Looks a very similar player to Taarabt to me though (attitude included) who was a massive flop this season in the premiership. I can't seeing them selling for less than £7million or so though.

Really don't rate him. He's still young I guess but his end product is often terrible and he covers that up by performing pointless skills....which often end in him losing possession.

Superb player.

 

Am not ITK, but this solves our winger problem in a stroke.

 

He's not merely a Championship player, he's one with bags of potential.

 

Pretty close to being the sort of player we have lacked (not that we've lacked much in last couple of years)

I remember when Lambert used to shoot on sight within 30-odd yards...

 

how many times do you see him shooting outside of the box now..? hardly ever

IF he is as good as some say and only 19 I wonder why Chelsea and Arsenal haven't tried to buy him then?

 

We're not really fishing in the same pool as them, are we? Also, at 19 he can come and play PL football with us rather than sit on their bench.

A skillful player ...with a bit of a **** attitude (IMO) seemed to spend to much time diving,fouling and moaning, in between bouts of good ball skills, every time I saw him play last season.

sometimes deals take months to set-up and complete...whilst with others..... the guy may come to SMS with a pen in his hand ..

 

I'm pretty sure we've got another 3-4 potential signings on the go, and that may involve 6-8 " targets ", not all of whom may be suitable.

Agreed and from the little I've seen of them both I'd rather get Adomah.

We are going to end up with a championship dream team ha.

 

Seemingly what Paul Lambert was trying to achieve at Norwich, only with Championship and League One stars.

 

Zaha would be a good signing, he's still young and learning the game and I'd have faith we could mold him into a complete footballer.

Can't imagine starting the season without filling the vacancies at CB and GK but RMF looks the weakest first choice spot. The Zaha rumour could just be based on initial interest but it does suggest the position is to be covered. If so, there could be three more signings after Buttner which would be more than the than the 'squad evolution' that NA spoke about. Six players in would be a real statement of intent. Maybe those who have doubts about Zaha are right but he is young, will mature and still likely to improve so he could be the replacement for Chamberlain that neither Guly or SDR have been. If not him, they do need someone like him on the right wing

Of course coaching could help him. Coaching could help me become a better player. But to Palace not have coaches? I just think we could do better.

 

IMO he is overrated and gets away with a lot because he's young and people only remember the odd occasion he pulls something off.

 

I'd rather we had Jarvis or Matt Phillips

Yes please. The most exciting talent in the championship in my eyes, Lallana apart. Doesn't strike me as a Nigel sport of player, but he has just what we need, pace, strength, the ability to do something a little different and tricks galore.

I don't think it was he looked quite normal.

 

 

Anyway back to Zaha. Opinion seems be mixed. Is this a case of he must be brilliant because he's quick like Antonio or is he actually a decent player? I don't seem to recall him ever standing out in the few games I've seen him in but I don't know much about him.

He was awful when we played there last season, too easily wound up and nothing he tried came off. Didn't make me nervous whenever he got the ball as he'd sure enough lose it not long after, then lost his rag in the second half. Saying that, he's young and has bags of potential, and that was the only game i'm basing my opinion on. As long as we don't pay over the odds I'd have no complaints.

Doubt Martin has anything to do it - or even a Clyne deal or whatever nonsense people were claiming.

 

IF we get Zaha, Puncheon is more likely to feature in any exchange.

FWIW I think Zaha's overrated but maybe he'll be more of a threat in a team that has goal options - Palace have hardly been prolific.

I suspect so...but probably not as good at saints.

like the reason why lambert was a better player for saints in league 1 than he ever was at rovers

yes yes yes and yes again, my CP mate rates him highly and at the age of 19 will just keep getting better and better, this could be one of my favuite signings (if it happens) next to when we signed Lambert!
