beatlesaint Posted 3 August, 2012 Share Posted 3 August, 2012 How many ST's have we sold to that part of the world? There were an awful lot of young oriental girls and boys in Saints shirts coming away from St Marys after the Ajax game last week ! A brilliant marketing move, never mind the fact that he looks a hell of a player
St_Tel49 Posted 3 August, 2012 Share Posted 3 August, 2012 I'm not disagreeing with you. He wouldn't be one my first 2 either, but his International record shows promise. Shows the mental toughness required to perform at the higher levels. I don't think that 1st, 2nd, 3rd choice striker is the issue - it is more a question of horses for courses. i.e. you select the strikers most appropriate for the job you want done against a particular team at a given time in the match. BadgerBadger Posted 4 August, 2012 Share Posted 4 August, 2012 On Saturday morning I saw him at Southampton Central, and then he was on our carraige on a train to London with his family. He didn't have crutches and was wearing normal shoes, he was walking perfectly fine. I said "Alright?" to him and he winked at me. FreemantleSaint Posted 4 August, 2012 Share Posted 4 August, 2012 I think he could do well as one the wide forwards in our new formation, or play just behind the lone striker.
Gambol2K9 Posted 4 August, 2012 Share Posted 4 August, 2012 Why don`t you do yourself a big favour and go onto You Tube and have a look at the winning goal he scored against Australia,in the 2011 AFC Asian cup.He didn`t just drop out of the sky at Southampton, the guy play`s for a strong football nation. The Japanise missed him last month when they played Australia over here,in a world cup qualifyer. One good goal does not mean a thing. Best to reserve judgement until we've seen him have a few games this season.

Me and my mate saw him outside SMS with his family about 3 days after he signed (we were there for the FA Youth Cup game). Spotted him coming out of the reception so I shouted "Tadanari!", he turned around and we did the purple archer celebration. Thought his face was going to split in two his grin was so huge! Then he got in a taxi and went away. The end.

Chung showed more than just one superb goal last season. His movement, awareness and link up play are superb. On top of that he is one of the most likeable players out there. His enthusiasm is infectious.
Turkish Posted 4 August, 2012 Share Posted 4 August, 2012 It's too early to say. He'll be popular with the fans because he's a nice guy, enthusiastic and runs around a lot. He also looked a bit lightweight last season and it remains to be seen if he can cut it. Remember how everyone raved about De Ridder after a few early performances but time has shown he really isn't the answer.

david in sweden Posted 14 August, 2012 Share Posted 14 August, 2012 Long term I see Rodriguez as Lambert's replacement as the central striker. that was my thought when I first heard about it . Fine that Rickie has done so well in the last 3 seasons, but if his career gets on the slide, we have a ready-made replacement..if not playing with the same formation. Matthew Le God Posted 14 August, 2012 Share Posted 14 August, 2012 Isn't that just wasting Jrod again, albeit on a different wing? Yes, but I also don't think Lambert will play every minute of every game and Rodriguez/Sharp can be used in his central role. Its a squad game after-all, as Adkins keeps reminding us. eelpie Posted 14 August, 2012 Share Posted 14 August, 2012 3 quality prem class strikers? And do they possess the same attributes as Lee? But is Lee guaranteed to return at the same state of fitness as he was when he came here last winter? Unlikely to reach peak fitness for several weeks I would have thought. david in sweden Posted 14 August, 2012 Share Posted 14 August, 2012 But is Lee guaranteed to return at the same state of fitness as he was when he came here last winter? Unlikely to reach peak fitness for several weeks I would have thought. you're probably right, but I wouldn't mind betting he'll be a sub. come Sunday. He spent his first 4 or 5 games on the bench after signing and actually scored his League goal when coming on as sub.
Crazy Diamond Posted 14 August, 2012 Share Posted 14 August, 2012 I've always said that Lee made a big difference to the side last year. Can't wait to see him back in action. Can still see that goal against Derby and the assist vs Barnsley now.
Matthew Le God Posted 14 August, 2012 Share Posted 14 August, 2012 Didn't Jrod play on the wing for Burnley during the 2010/11 season? He has played out wide before and is capable of doing so. Just seems a waste of his talents as you might aswell buy a proper winger.
notnowcato Posted 14 August, 2012 Share Posted 14 August, 2012 The front 3 will need to be a lot more fluid than the structured left, right and middle that some on here seem to expect. If Lee does return to the side then he would be an excellent addition to the front 3.
