Golac's Cunning Stunts Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 Anybody know if he will be fit for the start of the season? On 18 Jun he tweeted his injury was "getting better". Think if he is not going to be fit, we need to have a player with his skills and qualities on our radar. On a side note, would you fancy eating at his place? I def would... [/img]
Nexstar Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 There's no point getting a signing in to cover him for a few weeks, we've got 3 quality strikers to fall back on.
Lighthouse Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 There's no point getting a signing in to cover him for a few weeks, we've got 3 quality strikers to fall back on. Not to mention Guly, Barnard and Lallana is we have to.
Golac's Cunning Stunts Posted 5 July, 2012 Author Posted 5 July, 2012 There's no point getting a signing in to cover him for a few weeks, we've got 3 quality strikers to fall back on. 3 quality prem class strikers? And do they possess the same attributes as Lee?
Tokyo-Saint Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 Food looks ok, just a Katzu curry without the Katzu (fried pork schnitzel), healthy b@stard! As for his injury - mixed reports. I guess we won't really know until he gets in training and starts kicking the ball again.
Nexstar Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 3 quality prem class strikers? And do they possess the same attributes as Lee? No, they're taller. HTH

Katzu curry WITH the fried pork sounds most excellent.
Golac's Cunning Stunts Posted 5 July, 2012 Author Posted 5 July, 2012 No, they're taller. HTH Actually, no it doesn't in the slightest, but you carry on adding value mate.

Hopkins Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 3 quality prem class strikers? And do they possess the same attributes as Lee? Are you assuming Lee is prem class and that with him we will be OK then? What are these attributes that Lee provides that none of our other strikers could? You could quite easily argue he's our 4th best striker, certainly the least proven, so implying that because he's injured we need some cover is a bit odd.
trousers Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 Are you assuming Lee is prem class and that with him we will be OK then? What are these attributes that Lee provides that none of our other strikers could? Being an international striker for a country in the top 20 FIFA rankings probably gives him more top trump points than our other (non-international) strikers. There again, oranges aren't the same colour and texture as apples so that could be me spouting a load of tripe for once.
jjsaint Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 No, we won't need cover. However I hope he's fit, as he could be our 'wild card' for the start of the season.
Charlie Wayman Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 There again, oranges aren't the same colour and texture as apples so that could be me spouting a load of tripe for once. Staying with the food metaphor?
Charlie Wayman Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 I believe Lee will set the prem on fire ! Crikey, an arsonist as well as a curry eater? Great balls of Fire!

Did you not watch him when he played last season? The boy was class. Great touch, movement, technique, work rate... He has everything needed to be a successful player in the Prem.

He has more pace than the others as far as I could see !!

david in sweden Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 3 quality prem class strikers? And do they possess the same attributes as Lee? if you mean ...can they score goals?. I think the answer is YES.
JPTCount Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 Southampton legend in the making, 10 goals and 15 assists this season I reckon
Golac's Cunning Stunts Posted 5 July, 2012 Author Posted 5 July, 2012 if you mean ...can they score goals?. I think the answer is YES. No I don't mean that. I don't dispute they can score goals in the Championship. The jury is out if they can do the same in the Prem, although I sure hope they will. What I meant was that Lee's qualities are not the same as just a goalscorer. He has pace and technique and is the perfect foil for an out and out goalscorer. We need somebody with those attributes and I was wondering what we would do if he is going to be out for the first few months of the season. as I don't think playing Rickie, Sharp and/or JRod together is going to do it (or as somebody mentioned earlier... Barnard)
Hopkins Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 Not sure I've seen anything to suggest the jury isn't out on Lee, like it is apparently Lambert, Sharp or Rodriguez. Listen, I like Lee. I've been encouraged by his performances for us, but they are in the minority because of his injury. He's played 5 times maybe? Few sub appearances on top of that. We don't know how he would have coped if he hadn't been injured. He was just starting to get into a good little run and it was annoyingly cut short but anything could have happened. I'm baffled as to why in this thread he's being accepted as Prem quality whereas the jury is apparently still out on our other strikers who have all scored goals in the Championship. I think our 2nd choice striker is well and truly up for grabs and Lee as far as I'm concerned (and not his fault) is the least proven of them all at this very moment in time. As has been mentioned above, he has some useful attributes from what we've seen but building him up like we have in this thread as a bit harsh on the lad and could quite easily backfire. It's also harsh on our other strikers who I'm not sure could have done much more in the Championship last season but are seemingly stuck behind a lad who has played a handful of games. I like him, I'm excited to see how he does and i'm not doubting his ability but I am questioning why he's getting hyped because of a few games. He's still got a lot to prove. Don't throw the Japan thing in as an argument either. None of us know much or anything about their selection policy and his status in their squad.
up and away Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 So does anyone know if he's on the mend then? I don't believe anything has changed since he first picked up the injury when it was commented this could go into pre-season.
buctootim Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 I don't believe anything has changed since he first picked up the injury when it was commented this could go into pre-season. Disappointing. Three months on you would have hoped it would have healed a bit.
richardc Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 personally I think SRL will be 1st choice striker then I dont think their going to blow 7m on a striker and not give him a fair run out, if Lee hadnt got injured then I dont think Sharp would have seen much action but when he came in he did a blinder so I think he has earned 3rd choice at the start then Lee as 4th - however I think Lee will jump ahead of Sharp but I still think he if performs then JRod will be 2nd

Mowgli Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 Disappointing. Three months on you would have hoped it would have healed a bit. No you would perhaps but not me. It was a serious injury and it always known that he would miss the pres season and then a bit more. Do we need back up for his attributes? After 1 goal in only 7 appearances, I'm still trying to work out what his attributes are. But I did see enough to conclude he was a decent signing.

Why don`t you do yourself a big favour and go onto You Tube and have a look at the winning goal he scored against Australia,in the 2011 AFC Asian cup.He didn`t just drop out of the sky at Southampton, the guy play`s for a strong football nation. The Japanise missed him last month when they played Australia over here,in a world cup qualifyer.

hutch Posted 6 July, 2012 Posted 6 July, 2012 12 appearances and 4 goals for the U23s, and 10 appearances and 2 goals for the full International team. That doesn't look like a flash in the pan.
Sour Mash Posted 6 July, 2012 Posted 6 July, 2012 12 appearances and 4 goals for the U23s, and 10 appearances and 2 goals for the full International team. That doesn't look like a flash in the pan. Maybe not a flash in the pan, but not amazing either for someone is 26/7? Also I don't care about 'top 20' international country, that really doesn't mean much to me. I like Lee and I'm pleased we've got him, but he'd be 4th choice for me at the moment as well.

I'm not disagreeing with you. He wouldn't be one my first 2 either, but his International record shows promise. Shows the mental toughness required to perform at the higher levels.

Have to agree with you on that one as England are somehow ranked 4? Plainly ridiculous as we aren't even close to being 4th in Europe.
rooney Posted 6 July, 2012 Posted 6 July, 2012 Disappointing. Three months on you would have hoped it would have healed a bit. It must have done ,as he can get the new shorts on in the pics on the OS.

Golac's Cunning Stunts Posted 6 July, 2012 Author Posted 6 July, 2012 This. You are making out that weve lost Messi. Errrrr no I'm not.
Marsdinho Posted 6 July, 2012 Posted 6 July, 2012 Errrrr no I'm not. Ok, just don't be too surprised if he doesn't walk straight back into the starting XI once he recovers from his injury. I think that some people have got a little bit excited by the goal he scored against Derby, and assume he's prem class. He could well be, but he's done nothing to suggest we should be worried by his absence.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 6 July, 2012 Posted 6 July, 2012 On Saturday morning I saw him at Southampton Central, and then he was on our carraige on a train to London with his family. He didn't have crutches and was wearing normal shoes, he was walking perfectly fine. I said "Alright?" to him and he winked at me.
tartan_saint Posted 6 July, 2012 Posted 6 July, 2012 I said "Alright?" to him and he winked at me. You're in there son!

But yes it was a hell of a sweet cushioned header down as well as awareness of what was going on around him. Looking forward to seeing him rip a few defences new ones!!

Looking forward to seeing him rip a few defences new ones!! easy there, it was just an example of Lee's quality. the combination made it my favorite goal of the season, the cross, the header down and the finish, training ground stuff. but of course SRL was gonna break the net with lay off as sweet as that.
suewhistle Posted 12 July, 2012 Posted 12 July, 2012 We're going to have to get pilchards up his favourite tree to tell us if he's training. Those of us going to France will try and let you know what we see. In the meantime: chill (except for me returning to doing a local tax form...).
Pilchards Posted 12 July, 2012 Posted 12 July, 2012 We're going to have to get pilchards up his favourite tree to tell us if he's training. They took my tree down

trousers Posted 13 July, 2012 Posted 13 July, 2012 Simon Peach @SimonPeach #SaintsFC's Tadanari Lee is not yet back in full training. Still a little way off but is running. Should be back by end of pre-season.
