Are you a fairweather fan?

That article was mentioned in the kit thread but I've only just read it.

An appallingly piece of writing. Truly dreadful.

No idea what his point is, rambles all over the place. He moans about the DVD but he's not a ST holder so wouldn't have even got it.

What his point is I am none the wiser. WSC used to be good.

Someone who doesn't bother going to any games during one of the most exciting and positive seasons in recent memory, and is only vaguely indifferent to watching us get promoted on TV is not really identifiable as a fair-weather fan.

Pretty clear he's not really a fan at all.

I also played football on a sat, ok sounds like he plays a few leagues higher but i still managed 10 games last season, the reason i have a ST this season is because i prefer watching now then playing as my legs at 23/24 cant handle playing sat and sun with all my injuries, so il rather play sundays and watch football saturdays, most fans can still play 6 aside and sunday league while supporting saints.

So basically what he is saying is if you get out of the habit of going to watch football, for whatever reason(s), you'll find something else to do with your time......revealing stuff. As i couldn't afford to renew my ST i guess i'll become a fair weather fan to:(

It seems it's all about money for the bloke, he was ok going to matches at child or student rates and I guess when he had to start paying adult rates we were dropping down the divs so the adult prices got cheaper. Now the wedge is a bit more he's doing the off. His money his choice I guess. **** article though rambling all over the place.

One wonders when this sort of thing will be stamped on by the mods. Or is Turkish one of the lads, therefore allowed to get away with it?

The mods thought he would have grown out of it now, not aware of his capacity to repeat the same old **** a hundred times a day.

^What he said^

Pretty poor showing really. This fella I would say shows a mere interest in SFC

Agree - the article is a shower of p*ss. Admits that the loss of interest has nothing to do with disregard for tradition or any other pseudo-existential meanings.

Dull if blown up story of a person who fell out of the routine and woke one day to realise that his heart was no longer in it (all of which, incidentally enough, happened during our wilderness years). Other than that, I'm none the wiser.

I'm weird. (As if you hadn't noticed.) I started going to games more regularly when we'd dropped into League One. I went to the odd game before that, but due to shift work, financial issues and a mild case of agoraphobia I really couldn't make that many. This season we're back in the Premier League, and I should really be looking forward to going to games, sadly I'll probably only make a handful. If I could get to every (or nearly every) game, I would with bells on. I'd grasp my season ticket excitedly in my hand and I would be off to St Mary's joyfully. Sadly that will never be the way as long as I do shift work.

To me, a fairweather fan is one that doesn't feel anything when we lose but celebrates the wins. A passion for your clubs says you get behind them no matter what, and you truly feel it when bad things happen. You can't turn off your support when a run of losses occurs, or a key player gets sold, or administration happens, that's for the plastic Manc fans of the world.

I'm a fairweather fan I guess. I've done my supporting when I was younger and now pick and choose. Not necessarily the big games though, in fact next season i'm more likely to go to places like Stoke and Swansea than Man Utd and Arsenal.

Same here, I think. Been to more Saints games over the past 3 years than the rest of my attendance combined. Lots of plans to go to more this year, though.

Me too. I liked the atmosphere, the winning and the turn up an go (in) of lg1 and the championship. Fighting for tickets, high prices, posturing and excess of being sold a product in th PL - meh. Obviously a lot of new 'fans' will turn up in the PL so there will be a nett gain - but it would be interesting to know how many others drop off.

So, you went more when winning??

Interesting!!

Not exactly. I like it better when we win more obviously but I still went to a lot of games in the relegation seasons, its just that Im more likely to take my kids to something that has '4-0 to Saints and a big crowd' written all over it than 0-2 to Brentford in the rain. I'd rather see us at the top of league 1 or championship playing expansively and winning most games than on the back foot, being made to look second rate, in the bottom half of the table and getting beaten most weeks in the PL. Obviously if we were near the top of the PL getting CL football that would be okay too.......

I still remember my first game watching the Saints, although not sure exactly when it was as I was a bit young. I know it was pre FA Cup because I was told I couldn't go to that as I was too young. So 1975 or 1976 - prob 1976. A score of 1-1; I thought it was brilliant and recall being deflated when my father said that it was a pretty dire game. Can't remember who it was against but think it might have been WBA because I recall striped shirts. Looking at the fixtures that season, we only had two 1-1 home draws against Villa and Carlisle (and didn't play WBA). Then the glory days of the 1980s - life was fun. The struggle through the latter half of the 1990s and then the Premier League. Then we have the journey back and the fun times for the last 2 seasons.

All has changed, and to me, I really must say that I preferred the old days. Maybe that is just memories embellishing reality, although L1 didn't have all the dreadful fanfare that accompanies the PL. The Champ . But I see a point to the article, but it seems to be misdirected at Saints. The whole of football has changed. As more money is pumped into it, the less attractive it becomes. Maybe that is why the writer keeps on going on about lower league games. He should really recognise that and point out that it is the whole of professional football that he is disenchanted with. It starts at the top - Champions League where teams in the PL strive to get to. Teams in the Champ strive to get to the PL. Teams in L1 strive to get to the Champ. Unfortunately money and football are linked and there is no escaping that. If you do, then you have to support teams way down the chain. I have no affinity with these teams and have only ever supported one team, and I always will.

The shirts are diabolically bad, but that's not a great problem. I won't be buying one. I wouldn't buy one anyway. As the colour of the shirt isn't the reason I support Saints, it isn't going to stop me coming.

He is the Franks Cousin of mong magazines, yes?

Laughing at your own 'jokes'. Not a great sign of mental stability.

Tsk, i wasn't laughing i was agreeing. You need to get a grasp on mongboard emoticon culture before mugging yourself off.

Does this prove that Turkish and Dune are the same person seeming as Dune "agreed" then when Greenridge asked Dune why he was laughing at his own joke, Turkish replied instead of Dune?

I know the bloke who wrote this. I've already asked him what more could entice him back then 2 promotions, a Wembley final and some of the best football we've seen in years as I was also somewhat confused by his musings.

He's played football every Saturday for years though so it would be pretty difficult for him to get to games unless they were midweek, although he only makes passing reference to it in the article. He's definitely a Saints fan though, born and bred in the city and lets face it there's plenty of them who don't ever go to games.

As for WSC it's still easily the best football magazine out there, this was just an article on their website.

You seem to be in quite a confused state Turkish as you now appear to have answered this chaps question as if you were dune? If you want to keep up your ruse you need to avoid basic slip-ups like this, it's not rocket science.

Article is not really that informative. The thread is a bit better.

As for proving the Turkish = dune theory, I really don't know. Does anyone credible know that they are two separate people in real life?

You can thank our eagle-eyed earlier posters for the deduction and detection.

However, I could equally see this being a giant PM-organised wind-up, beginning with the words "you know what would be good for a laugh...".
