PhilippineSaint Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 Now that Goal line technology is expected to be given the green light today and as it was tested at St Mary's are all the camera's still in place? Could we get to use it next season? or was everything removed when they finished testing?
The Kraken Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 Pretty sure it was mentioned that if the system worked and was approved there was the possibility it could be wheeled out across the whole league this season. I'd imagine they'll look to do a trial of it in the lower leagues first though, but its possible we could have it I suppose.
dune Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 If it is rolled out I hope it's done in a civilised British way, and not tacky and Americanised.
The Kraken Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 If it is rolled out I hope it's done in a civilised British way, and not tacky and Americanised. That's definitely my main concern Dune, yes.
PhilippineSaint Posted 5 July, 2012 Author Posted 5 July, 2012 If it is rolled out I hope it's done in a civilised British way, and not tacky and Americanised. allegedly it will only be the ref that will see the indication until after the match has finished so it might work out ok IE although the Ukrainian goal was in and Hawk would have shown it ref disallowed because was offside earlier
eelpie Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 If it is rolled out I hope it's done in a civilised British way, and not tacky and Americanised. You mean the red carpet treatment?
dune Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 You mean the red carpet treatment? I'm thinking more of the things I hate about modern football - music when goals are scored, that stupid countdown they used before k/o at the Euro's, the idiots that dress up like gimps etc etc.

Saint Garrett Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 I HATE goal music, and have never spoke to anyone who actually wants it. I hope we dont have it this coming season.

Golden Balls Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 I HATE goal music, and have never spoke to anyone who actually wants it. I hope we dont have it this coming season. Justin Gladis who plays said music is on twitter. Give him abuse if it happens.
doubleonothing Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 BBC Breaking News @BBCBreaking Goal-line technology approved by football's lawmakers in Zurich Not saying which one it is - Hawkeye or Goal Ref.
Nexstar Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 James Pearce @Pearcesport Goal-line technology approved. Separate tests to be done in each stadium in which it will be used before signed off for that stadium Guessing we could be one of the first to be signed off then?

Nexstar Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 Goal-line technology unlikely to be ready until December. FA say it could be introduced halfway through Premier League season FA General Secretary Alex Horne says no club likely to be disadvantaged if Premier League switch on goal-line technology in December
pap Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 If it is rolled out I hope it's done in a civilised British way, and not tacky and Americanised. What about a man in a big cartoon hawk suit coming out to adjudicate the decision? They could play the Benny Hill Theme tune when he came on. If it's a goal he could do some hand gestures and a little dance. Is this the sort of dignified British affair that would please you?
SaintRobbie Posted 5 July, 2012 Posted 5 July, 2012 I hate goal line technology. It takes the human aspect out of the football debate. Referee error is part of the game and to be fair evens out over a season. I hope it never comes in.

Referee error is part of the game and to be fair evens out over a season. I hope it never comes in. A goal is a goal. There is no human "decision" to make; it's either a goal or it isn't. The referee still has to blow for the goal and award it, there is no other visible or audio signal, to the players, managers and fans hawkeye will be completely undetectable during the game. And saying it evens out over a season is a ludicrous notion IMO. Its just another way of saying "don't get too upset, we'll probably f*ck up again sooner or later and perhaps this time in your favour". This is a cut and dried area of the game where referees can know instantly and with 100% accuracy whether to give a goal or not. So it takes that responsibility away from them and assistant referees, therefore making their job slightly easier. I'm glad its coming in.

Incidents where it comes into play will be few and far between, but when they do it'll be worth it. With so much money riding on football now, including betting, we can't continue to leave multimillion pound decisions to the ref and linesmen.
