Special K Posted 4 July, 2012 Share Posted 4 July, 2012 http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/9798575.Children_s_heart_unit_in_Southampton_saved/ Terrific news, especially considering the undoubted excellence and high quality in the unit.
buctootim Posted 4 July, 2012 Share Posted 4 July, 2012 Good news indeed. The review needed to be done though.
krissyboy31 Posted 4 July, 2012 Share Posted 4 July, 2012 Really good news but up here it's a different story because they are shutting the Leeds unit. It means a hell of a lot of travelling for anybody in Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and the East Midlands to either Newcastle, Liverpool or Birmingham. The pre and post care will still be done locally.

Raging Bull Posted 4 July, 2012 Share Posted 4 July, 2012 Really happy with this, my niece was seriously ill when she was born and this place saved her little life 4 years ago. They performed miracles on her, so happy tonight because closing such a good unit would have been scandalous.

alpine_saint Posted 5 July, 2012 Author Share Posted 5 July, 2012 Really, really great news They saved my life 31 years ago. I just discovered that its forerunner saved my fathers life about 55 years ago. Glad that SGH will still be leading the way in this field.
GenevaSaint Posted 5 July, 2012 Share Posted 5 July, 2012 A great result, the staff are wonderful and it's a just result as SGH is one of the best units. Happy that my little girl will be going local rather than London or Birmingham
rooney Posted 5 July, 2012 Share Posted 5 July, 2012 All credit to the nurses and parents who turned up at SMS that day and got us to sign the petition.Quite an initiative to realise that there would be many people all in one place.
Petersfield Saint Posted 5 July, 2012 Share Posted 5 July, 2012 Very good news. My missus worked there as a registrar on a couple of rotations when this was all kicking off. Proud to say she also did her bit for the campaign
krissyboy31 Posted 22 October, 2012 Share Posted 22 October, 2012 Being reported in these parts that this is now being reviewed. Leeds and East Midlands have been given a reprieve. Not clear as to whether they are looking to scrap the closures all together or review which ones are to be closed.

Some units up North earmarked to close have demanded a juidicial review, doesnt mean the decision to save Southampton was wrong. This sort of thing needs good demographical distribution; the unit should be OK. Just wish this bunch of opportunists and chancers we call a Government didnt have such a reputation for U-turns, and the Tories didnt have such a reputation for screwing the South to ass-kiss in the North (Vospers being a prime example)

They will likely will scrap the closures or delay them by kicking the ball down the road till after the next election. The review findings were based on what was clinically best for the patients. The Government will decide on what is electorally best for them.
