This makes a mockery out of the rankings. Results can give false information on how good a nation side actually is. How can England be really be 4th lol. I'd say seeing as we can't get past the quarter finals in any competition we can only be realistically be as high as 8th. But I'm not sure we are even 8th in terms of ability.

It is a bit mad, does anyone know how they judge it? For example, in theory, we didn't lose any of our matches at the euro's, only going out on penalties after a draw. Do they count it as a proper defeat or as a draw or somewhere in between? We've been rubbish, but our results have been flattering, I suppose that's all that counts. Italy have been rewarded, they went up six places.

well according to that BBC article The Fifa world rankings are compiled every month, with ranking points accumulated according to results, the importance of the matches played and the strength of opposing teams. But still we all know 4th placed England would not beat 5th place Portugal or even stand a chance against Brazil who just dropped to 11th.

yeah true

just that, winning two and drawing two (plus the two friendly wins) would have got us way loads more points that brazils friendly loss to argentina

So surprised to see how far down Brazil are. Is this the lowest they've ever been in the 'Fifa' Rankings?

To be fair, they definitely don't seem to be producing players of the same level of Ronaldo, Ronaldiono, Cafu, Carlos, Rivaldo etc.

Neymar is probably their star name at the mo, but you don't see clubs from all over Europe rushing to buy their players these days - they seem to be snapped up by Russian clubs primarily these days.
