Decided to do a bit of shopping for a few polo shirts, short sleeved shirts, jeans etc for my hols and looked in several shops only to find awful faded looking studenty stuff and jeans with turn ups in the usual high street "fashionable shops". In then end got some great jeans from tk maxx and was shocked to find that M&S now have some really nice stuff in. Understated and a bit Conservative just how I like it. Am I getting old or does anyone else now rate them?

I buy my suits from there. Good quality and the MandS in Camberley is so massive they have a great choice for shopping, especially if you have a large invenTory of goods to buy. My favourite coat came from there too. It's a good place for clothing (and up to a point food too) if you're not into labels.

I wear their Blue Harbour tees, get them at a M&S outlet in Walsall for around £5 each. I also wear their cords as I don't tend to wear jeans and they actually make them in 36/31 which makes them a perfect fit for me!

Most of thier stuff is distinctly average IMO but some of the basic Autograph and Collezione stuff is OK . I got some John Smedley style long sleeve merino knit polo shirts and some merino knit basic crew necks at the beginning of the year. Good fit and good quality and considerably cheaper than Smedley.

Congratulations. You've turned into your mum.

I've got a few bits from Blue Habour, do some nice stuff.

That's what I went for. Was surprised just how nice their polos were for a reasonable price.

I've found their knitwear good, they keep things simple which most high street places seem unable to do at the moment.

I buy most of my suits for work from M&S the main reason as most of them are mix and match you can always buy a second pair of trousers, sat at my desk and in and out of the car I can knock two pairs of trousers out to one jacket.

Of course.

Excellent.

That's the looking good side sorted.

Now one suggestion is to look for some equally good quality Dryfit Polo's for Daytime wear (assume you are going somewhere warm) Dryfit technology in Golf Shirts these days is superb and for day time wear avoids the walking around all wet issues that the Cotton has (but you need Cotton for looking good in the air-con'd bars/restaurants).

Giordano do good cheap and technically almost OK kit, but Cutter & Buck, Ashworth, Nike & occassionally Adidas have good Dry Fit Polos without much in the way of annoying logos. The Greg Norman range is a bit too golfy and the IPS range (Ian Poulter) is just too ghey

They wash up ok and never lose their shape.

I can recommend the Collezione miracle linen jackets and trousers. In fact most of the Collezione range is pretty decent for the money.

Oh and WHY have M&S stopped selling their Cotton socks? The ONLY standard stuff these days is Cotton Rich. You have to go for those thin (last 2 months) Italian Cotton single packs these days.

(Note - never wear Cotton Rich socks (ie those with Polyester) on holiday. The fashion angle is totally outdone by the stench of sweaty feet)

Fine for UK (except maybe a couple of weeks in the summer), but if you are going somewhere for hols with daytime temps in the low 30's? You need a good pair of all leather shoes with them or else ......

I wear those as well. Brought some more on Saturday actually.

Got 3 pairs of M&S chino shorts earlier in the summer, very smart and a good price.

I can't say i've ever had a problem with sweaty feet or sweating in general. I'm British after all and am thus impervious to the heat of the midday sun.

I've actually never been inside M&S. How old do you have to be to shop there? Do they card?

They have really turned the shop around. I don't know how that other great institution BHS survives tbh because they are stuck in a time warp and have some horrible stuff.

Bloody Hell. Dune is Alistair Cook. Great job yesterday at the Oval man

Primark have a lot of variety and the quality has improved a lot recently.

Don't you ever post on a clothes related thread again, you hear me?

I will post where I like, especially if it winds you up! ;)

I'm only trying to save you from further humiliation. I'm thinking of you Andy.

I buy my clothes from a wide range of places, including sometimes Primark(who are good for basic stuff more often than not). Where do you shop?

You wouldn't have heard of them.

You're so indie. I sometimes shop that way too. Don't see the point of loyalty to one brand or shop. Might as well look around.

I suspect if Primark is me of your favourites we may shop in a similar way but in different types of places.

I wouldn't say it is one of my favourites, but it's clothes have increased in quality. I know that because I work there. Zara is very good, everything I have bought from Zara lasts.

When you say indie are you talking about that scruffy retro stuff students and eco warriors wear?

Yes, I was referring to that if that's what you want to call it. Albeit a bit sarcastic , because in the 'you probably haven't heard of them', he reminded me of some people!

You'll love NEXT then as it's full of it.

And I can assure you that 'Indie Scruffy Students' or whatever do not shop in Next!

I can assure you they do.
