What Promotion or Season have you enjoyed most since the Takeover?

With Pre-season now underway there is obviously a lot of focus on the coming season, which is understandable. We have had season ticket prices, the transfer talk and the new kit being released amongst other things. I just thought I'd take a moment to reflect on my favourite moments. My favourite season since the takeover was the 2010/11 season and our promotion from league one. Obviously this season gone, getting promotion to the Premier League is a bigger achievement. But for me there just seemed to be something very special about how we turned about our poor start in league one that year around. How Huddersfield pushed us all the way. How we came back to win against both Brighton and Mk Dons after starring defeat in the face and possibly blowing our promotion chances all together. Also how Nigel Adkins got us playing some great football and looking like a team with a good spirit again. Together as one and winning those last 6 games back to back when the pressure was on.

Special mentions go to 2009/10 season, the feeling of finally over coming our points deduction, then the feeling if getting out if the relegation zone. That really felt like we had started to move on from those dark days that at one point looked like they would never end, unless the club did first.

I know we have had a few " Look how far we have come" threads but I just thought it would be good to talk about our favourite moments from the past amazing few years before all the seriousness starts again. So what was your favourite promotion or season since the Takeover?

First promotion my ST was £300 !

Second promotion my ST was £510 !

Now premier League my ST is £625 !

Value for money, I'll go for the 1st one !!!

Yes we certainly got our money's worth that season. But if it wasn't a question of value for money, then what would it have been?

I have to say the first one. Just that feeling of knowing we were back. This video regularly sent my hairs up a year ago. Still remember going mental when Fonte scored at Brighton. I just cant believe that a year later, were properly back.

Thats a cool video, I've not seen that one before. Captured the mood of the season very nicely there.

I have to say the 2009/10 season probably was the most enjoyable because there was the feeling of relief that we were still a club and were just happy to still have Saints. Pardew did a wonderful job in assembling the squad he did from a team on the way down.

The last 2 seasons have obviously been amazing too. Keep them coming Saints!

From 1st div to Championship, without a doubt.

We stormed it. We steamed it. Our last 15 games were the dogs b*ll*cks. We came within 3 points of going past Brighton, and beat them at Withdean. We picked up the momentum that carried us through to Xmas 2011 and probably ensured our promotion this season too. And we had a decent home kit.

Championship to PL was a stagger over the line, and we all know it.

I dont recall you saying that when Walsall and Rochdale beat us towards the end of the season :-)

And Championship to PL was not a stagger over the line. West Ham staggered over the line by going up through the play offs. We were 1 win from winning the league, exactly the same as we were the season before :-)

My last wobble was at the time of the Walsall draw, I seem to recall. Remember that we had to play serious catch-up on Huddersfield. I did argue about then about consolidating and going for the play-offs, I am not ashamed to admit.

Last season we were never out of the top 2, led for most of it, and not-exactly-fell-apart but not-exactly-redoubled-our-resolve to get over the finish line.

Agree with that................ add in seeing saints win a cup final at Wembley to. I loved that season the next two were great as well. For a few reasons I'm struggling to get excited about this up coming season I really can't see it being as fun as the last few seasons.

I'm sure you also posted towards the end of March that we werent going to catch them and we shouldn't play Lallana and Chamberlain again this season and try to get them fit for the play offs. Anyway, I wobbled abut after Wallsall away, thought we'd bottle it.

Mine is this season though, in L1 I expected us to win it and win it at a canter, we didn't and although we finished brilliantly it 2nd was the worst I expected, we were the biggest club in the division by a distance and should have gone up. this season has been a complete surprise not just position we finished but the football we have played and how Lambert, Schniderlin, Lallana, Davis and Richardson have stepped up a level so comfortably and blended so well with the new signings. Although we missed out on the title we all said at the start of the season playoffs would be a fantastic achievement. 2nd was far better than any of us could have hoped for this time last season.

I think you were pretty consistently predicting we wouldn't get auto-promotion, even with a few games left.

Can't remember the exact details, but do remember you saying with about 8-ish games to go that we needed X points to go up and wouldn't make it (even though X-1 points would have mathematically guaranteed promotion)

My own favourite was 2009/10.

Felt joy at the club starting to climb back. Never expected us to get promoted, so was relaxed all the way through.

Loved the JP-T trip to Wembley too.

The Wembley win, was the icing on the cake that Season. Especially when you think about the team we started with that season. We were down to the bare bones against Millwall on the opening day.

This being one of the highlights from the day.

Lol - if you picked any match thread from the past 3 years where we go a goal down then Alpine is doing his " the end of world is nigh" performance. Normally followed by a disappearing act from the post match thread.

Yawn, tedious ignorant cliche alert...

That old hack again ?

Yes, I did a very quick estimate in my head without going through the table and various scenarios first for 30mins, for the benefit of the ongoing discussion and was out by 1 point.

So f**king shoot me.

The OP asked which promotion was our favourite, I'd like some bell-end who has attacked me on here to explain why me answering the question and expressing my preference has turned into yet another b*tch-fest.

I would hope that too! The only reason I hope we go to Stockport again is either in the cup or Stockport get promotion to the premier league :D

Actually the first post is why I we do hope we play Stockport and teams like them again....affordable and fun (at least it was to me) beats unaffordable and ......well I'll hold fire on how much fun the PL is until we've played a few games:)

Keep it on topic please. If you want to take a trip down memory lane about 'he said, she said' please do it via PM and spare the rest of us.

Personally I found the Championship promotion the best, felt like a team with great spirit punching above our weight, just like it did when I first supported.

09/10 for me, purely because I got to take my youngest son to see Saints in a Wembley final, the eldest had been to Cardiff & seen England at Wembley, the JPT gave me the opportunity to redress the balance.

I have to say though it's been a great 3 years. Leaving home before a match, full of confidence that we would win, was much better than the previouse couple of years when I often thought we'd do well to get a draw.

Anyone know if our form over the last two years is up there with the best of any team in all four leagues? I guess Man U, Man C and Chelsea may of had a better win ratio over the last 2 seasons, but we must of run them pretty close - Reading and Brighton did not do the job over two seasons so we must be up there... Anyone??

according to wiki adkins has a win ratio of 61% while he's been here, and that's on par with most top 4 managers, redknapp managed just under 50% during his time at spurs

I have a feeling that ratio may drop a little this year, hopefully not by too much though :)
