trousers Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 @officialsaints: Cork Named In Team GB Squad: http://t.co/ex6PWdKc #saintsfc
doubleonothing Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Southampton FC @officialsaints #SaintsFC delighted to announce that Jack Cork (@jackcork1) has been selected in the final Team GB squad for #London2012. More online soon.
trousers Posted 2 July, 2012 Author Posted 2 July, 2012 "Cork will link up with the rest of Pearce's squad this Saturday, meaning he will miss Saints' first pre-season dates such as the Markus Liebherr Memorial Cup and training camp in the French resort of Évian-les-Bains."
The Kraken Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Being announced now online. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/olympics/18672198
MOSaint Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Not surprised, Pearce liked Cork in his U-21 sides as he was able to play him in a variety of positions.
alpine_saint Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Well done Jackie. Anyone know what the Team GB kit looks like ? Seeing as I have money reserved for a Saints top burning a hole in my pocket..
The Kraken Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Well done Jackie. Anyone know what the Team GB kit looks like ? Seeing as I have money reserved for a Saints top burning a hole in my pocket.. Its awful. Tight fit too.....
ThreeSixty Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Surprised in ahead of Lallana. But fair play to the lad.
MOSaint Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Lallana is 24 and Pearce never seemed to rate him, only called him up once.
CanadaSaint Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Pleased for Corky. Not sure how happy I am that he'll be exposed to Pearce's coaching for a while.
PhilippineSaint Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Think I'll give it a miss.... Looks like a bit of St George is missing from that kit
SNSUN Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Good for Corky, so long as he doesn't knacker himself out or get injured. I hope this will speed up the midfield strengthening too. (Sorry, I'm just itching for signings!)
Gemmel Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Good stuff - Chuffed for him. He has a big season ahead of him (He might have benefited from another season in the Championship) and this won't do him any harm at all. Now we just need to find out which of the otehr players we might be intrested in and get Jack to tap them up.
Dimond Geezer Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Well done Corky. For god's sake don't get injured.

S-Clarke Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Someone said I was crazy for suggesting Cork. Surprised Rodriguez isn't in. Yes I'd say that if he was a Burnley player. He's shown a lot more ability than Sordell in his career so far. But pace is usually preferred to technique. Good luck to Cork though. And even more necessity for CM signing now one of our best will be taken away from pre-season. I think Rodriguez will be over 23 by the time the Olympics start, may be wrong on that. My initial thoughts were ''where is Llallana, or Rodriguez'' etc - but they don't meet the u23 criteria.
Saint Charlie Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Doesn't miss the whole of pre season and he will be up to fitness quickly too so shouldn't be a negative impact for us unless he gets injured (which could happen to any of our squad in friendlies).
PhilippineSaint Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Lallana is no good for England. He's one of those annoying players who does most of his work with the ball. It's not the way forward. Lallana is our new Matt with regard to the England set up.
dronskisaint Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Great for him, great for the club...someone noticing our progress even if it's Pearce. I felt he was often the 'unsung' cog in the machine last season that made it all happen. Good player to cover a few positions for them which is probably why he got in ahead of Lallana.
Big Ron fan Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 He's not that good. But ability aside, that style of player won't get utilised. We come away from tournaments where we haven't tried to play football, and praise Gerrard again. Praise him for leaving Parker isolated, sprinting around like a headless chicken and winning over fans with his effort, determination etc. Just imagine a few players who can keep the ball. I feel sorry for Carrick more. He's a sh1t Pirlo in many ways, but the best of that sort of player we currently have. Henderson on the other hand can run around a lot. Exactly what he didn't do this time, unlike in previous tournaments. That's why he's being praised. Does Cork's inclusion mean he's now officially better than Beckham?
Matthew Le God Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Good player to cover a few positions for them which is probably why he got in ahead of Lallana. Lallana is 24, which means for him to be included they would have to drop one of Ryan Giggs, Craig Bellamy or Micah Richards.
dubai_phil Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 So this means we can now officially say that Cork is better than Beckham..... Good news, well done to the lad - big crowds, big match experience can only help him develop. Also gives us lot down here a reason to watch the games down the pub (as if we really ever needed an excuse)
Saint Mikey Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 I feel sorry for Carrick more. He's a sh1t Pirlo in many ways, but the best of that sort of player we currently have. Henderson on the other hand can run around a lot. Don't feel sorry for Carrick. He made himself 'unavailable for selection'.
dubai_phil Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Hmm I suppose by the time the season starts we could have two Team GB players in our squad at SMS
doubleonothing Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Hmm I suppose by the time the season starts we could have two Team GB players in our squad at SMS Don't think Bellamy offers more than Lambert. Lallana has got more ahead of him than Giggs. Richards might be a good addition though.....
jawillwill Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 any truth that Cork is going to be the GB stopper ? Don't worry, I get it. And if it's any comfort, I'm l(ing)ol
The Kraken Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Don't think Bellamy offers more than Lambert. Lallana has got more ahead of him than Giggs. Richards might be a good addition though..... I find Richards to be a bit of an odd choice. Unless Pearce is offering him an olive branch. Richards could have gone to the Euros with England but threw his toys out of the pram when he wasn't originally selected and said he wouldn't go on standby. So we took Martin Kelly instead. Kyle Walker seems to be currently in favour and when back from injury will surely provide competition to Glen Johnson for the right back spot, so Richards' actions have pushed him further down the England pecking order. So either Pearce thinks Richards will be out of the England reckoning in future for his snub, and considers him the best over-aged option (I'd disagree if he does think that); or Hodgson still has him in mind for the national side and wants to see him at a "major" tournament (which again I find unlikely).
dune Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Think I'll give it a miss.... They'll never bring out standard football shirts like that. They need to be big and baggy to tent the average fan.
The Kraken Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 They'll never bring out standard football shirts like that. They need to be big and baggy to tent the average fan. Speak for yourself, fatty.
Viking Warrior Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 would liked to have seen Rickie in as one of the over aged player far better than the three chosen
trousers Posted 2 July, 2012 Author Posted 2 July, 2012 would liked to have seen Rickie in as one of the over aged player far better than the three chosen Not Welsh enough...

The qualifying for this (for non-hosts) was the last European Championships and equivalent worldwide competitions.
Dazza82 Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Well done Jack, But i cant see him playing much can see this being the main team with Cork getting a few minutes here and there, so will it be worth him missing the most of pre season? I hope not and that im wrong for Jacks sake. ------------Butland----------- Bertrand Richards Caulker Taylor --Ramsey--Giggs--Cleverley/Allen Bellamy----Sturridge----Sinclair

Probably won't be in the starting XI but with only 6 outfield subs, all will get plenty of game time, especially if we progress to the knock-out stages.
Bearsy Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 I haven't checked the links yet but is it definitely for the football?
Bearsy Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 I have checked the links now, Jack Cork has been selected for the Olympic football. Colour me surprised!
beavis17 Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Jack Cork @jackcork1 Thanks to every1 for the nice messages about the Olympics! So proud and honoured to be selected for such a special competition esp in london!
The Cat Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Great news. He'll have Neymar in his pocket if we play Brazil.
farawaysaint Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Speak for yourself, fatty. Now you've done it dune...
dubai_phil Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 =doubleonothing Don't think Bellamy offers more than Lambert. Lallana has got more ahead of him than Giggs. Richards might be a good addition though..... Woosh. I had meant we could have Cork & Butland.....
rooney Posted 2 July, 2012 Posted 2 July, 2012 Congratulations to Jack Cork. A quality player who always tries to play football as it should be played.
