Spudders Posted 2 July, 2012 Share Posted 2 July, 2012 I've gotta leave my car at Heathrow next week (flying from terminal 5). Any suggestions on good cars parks? Ideally looking for one with wider spaces & secure, but I don't want to use a valet service, any suggestions? ta
Turkish Posted 2 July, 2012 Share Posted 2 July, 2012 Find a local hotel, stay the night before and leave your car there. We do this when we fly from Gatwick as its cheaper to do this than park at the airport. Last time we saved about £40 by doing that and booking fortnights parking. Most hotels do. Free bus to the airport as well.
iansums Posted 2 July, 2012 Share Posted 2 July, 2012 When we flew to NYC last year I booked the T5 business car park which was the same price as the standard car park (special deal at the time). You get to go on the 'electric pods' to the terminal, absolutely brilliant.
Spudders Posted 2 July, 2012 Author Share Posted 2 July, 2012 Cheers Turkish, trouble with this option is that I already have the hump I have to waste my Sunday afternoon & evening for a work trip, so going up to London the Saturday is even worse. Cost isn't a problem as I can exxpense it, I'd just ideally not want to leave my car parked up for a week in tight spaces with chimps opening their doors onto it if there were any better car parks in the same area. I also don't want to leave it with the Valet service & see it a few months later when the tv show rogue traders show some teenage lad taking his mum to lidl in it! Is it something to distract you whilst people break into your car!!!
Huffton Posted 2 July, 2012 Share Posted 2 July, 2012 Cost isn't a problem as I can exxpense it,: Travelling from southampton? Get a taxi. Door to door, no stress and no worries about scrotes going shopping in your car while your away.

Pods are a really stress free way to get to the airport, far better than the bus. You have a pod all to yourself, all very futuristic.

trousers Posted 2 July, 2012 Share Posted 2 July, 2012 First class train to Woking then half-hourly Rail-Air Coach service to Heathrow. Used it plently of times. Hassle free door-to-door service (assuming you can avoid rush hour on the M25)
Essruu Posted 2 July, 2012 Share Posted 2 July, 2012 But then I'd have to make polite conversation with someone No you don't. I'm quite happy for passengers to listen to my wisdom / travel in silence / listen to their iPod / pretend to be asleep. They can do whatever they want as long as they pay me :-)
Petersfield Saint Posted 2 July, 2012 Share Posted 2 July, 2012 Do the official T5 business parking as others have said here, or just the normal T5 long stay which is next door (slightly cheaper but you have to wait for a bus). Both car parks are fine for space, look secure enough and your car stays onsite. I've been using them for years without any problem. Same at Gatwick. Or if you want to do the hotel thing then stay at the main Premier Inn in Bath Road who have a deal with Q-Park next door. Although the deal says for T1, 2 & 3 their shuttle buses go to all the terminals. Again, used several times in the past and never a problem. Have you stayed at the sofitel http://www.sofitel.com/frm_fiche_hotel.svlt?code_langue=gb&code_hotel=6204 because that's where i've chosen as it's literally next to the terminal along a covered walkway? After a lot of searches got a good deal including breakfast with WeHoliday (never heard of them before, but they're in abta so should be fine) for same price as room only with all the other agents I found. Free bus to the airport as well. We did that as well at Gatwick. Double room with parking worked out cheaper than just car parking at the airport. Flight was mid-morning so an lazy start to the day and a simple bus transfer to the airport. Flew from T5 in June & the long stay was fine. The Sofitel is lovely. The restaurant is expensive though, so I treated the missus to a romantic walk across to Subway in the terminal
dubai_phil Posted 2 July, 2012 Share Posted 2 July, 2012 You can get one way car rental on line from people like Car Hire 3000 from Southampton to LHR for around 50 quid each way for a Fiat Panda May be cheaper than a hotel stay & their parking fees Pap is the TSW forum Car Rental expert
Spudders Posted 2 July, 2012 Author Share Posted 2 July, 2012 Fiat Panda!! Do they still make them? I kinda wanna take my car, just don't want people whacking their doors against it as seems to be the norm these days. Sounds like the T5 business carpark is ok so I'll probably take my chances there next week. I didn't realise when I booked the flights that the euro star goes to Brussels, so I may just get the train from then on as I'm doing two months over there coming back weekends. Cheers everyone for advice!
Whitey Grandad Posted 2 July, 2012 Share Posted 2 July, 2012 The terminal official car park has some great electronic signs showing the number of spaces! All made locally in Hamble ;-)
