Is it just me, or did the way Spain play remind you of anyone...?

Just by the by i thought it was interesting to see Italy play the old diamond to get numbers in midfield while still having the two men up top. Nigel likes the old diamond, i'm wondering if that might be the starting deal next year seeing as we're still not signing wingers. Didn't work out for italy in the final but generally i thought they looked pretty good with it.

Depends can we get Andrea Pirlo in the middle of the park?

Iniesta has to be the most over-rated player on the planet at the moment.

He falls over like a toddler everytime he is challenged. F**king weird looking gimp.

I believe you may have just unwittingly given us all an insight into just precisely HOW insane your expectations are.

That is mad! Iniesta has been my favourite player for like 5 years now. Everytime Barcelona are on tv and the ITV knobs are creaming themselves bout Xavi and Messi I'm sitting there thinking yeah but that Iniesta is mustard!

Loved watching Spain last night. But then I loved Italian football in the 1980s.

England-Sweden was probably the most exciting game for me, but were clearly two pretty weak teams.

Some sort of tippy-tappy cattenacio is probably the new way of playing football. I can live with that, but can also see why others find it a tad dull.

You've just confirmed your complete lack of football knoweldge right there, and the fact that nothing will ever please you.

He's the greatest midfielder (along with Xavi) that I've seen in my lifetime.

How does that make him a bad player? I believe what makes a player is touch, technique, footballing brain, passing, shooting, speed of thought, positional play. Would you say any of those assets of his are "over-rated" as you put in your post.

Someone who lit up the final of Euro 2012, and scored the winning goal in the World Cup 2010, while also achieving countless La Liga titles and Champion League medals cannot be called "over-rated". There's a reason why Spain are based on the backbone of him and Xavi dominating the midfield.

As for tika-taka, it can be a bit tedious to watch as it isn't the fast-paced attacking football that we British are accustomed to and in many cases prefer. If you're looking at results, Spain's style has had no effective opposition because technically NO team can touch them. If Saints played the same type of football with the same caliber of players and were getting results consistently would you really be complaining calling us "boring". No you'd be delighted.

For what Spain do, they do magnificently, it's bad because it makes the game that one sided that don't seem to have any vulnerabilities, this makes most games against Spain one-sided, thus all this nit-picking regarding their style. As neutrals we all prefer a game that hangs in the balance, rather than one which is so one-sided you can't help but feel sorry for the opposition.

Great thread this, Spain are boring and Iniesta is crap !

Please note that they have won the last 2 Euro championships and the World cup !

In terms of control, pass and move, they are on a different planet to the rest of the nations !

Fortunately in the premier league nobody comes close, although some try (Arsenal and Swansea for example!) but God forbid that we try to play hoofball because if you lose posession you might not see the ball again for another 10 minutes !!

Spain in the final were excellent, attacking and played far more expansively than usual, switching to the wings to create space, and shooting much more often than usual.

Spain in pretty much every other game played the football equivalent of "keep away", bullying the opposition with bigger kid style (ironically) possession. And everyone hates people who play that game with inferior opponents, even back into the playground.

The critics of 4-6-0 were mistaken, it was plenty attacking enough for as long as midfielders were making through runs, but the possession in non-threatening areas for the sake of it was strangling the game pretty well.

How the hell an any true football fan find Spain boring to watch ? They are magnificent to watch, the ball control, the team ethics, the pinpoint passing it's brilliant. England will never be as exciting as them to watch as we cant keep the ball for longer thatn 1 minute.

Exactly.

But all to aim for - ie perfecting our passing, which is pretty good, yet too many stray passes going awry especially during off days. Something we must work on. The new standard to achieve.

Can't wait for the season to begin!

I'm not as cynical as some on here, thank the Lord!

When we were at our best last season - anyone remember scoring after 26 passes?!! - we played exactly the way Spain played.

We are breeding footballers who are happy in possession of the football and long may it continue.

English football has been shown up over the past four weeks as being well behind the best in Europe.

Everything you hear from our Chairman and others at the club says we are modelling ourselves on Barcelona - and I couldn't be happier with that.

Footballers who love the ball, who give it to one another and who always make options and opportunities is great to watch.

Bring it on.

I think that was confirmed years ago! Football (and wider) ignorance is one thing, but I don't get the need to have a go at his looks. He's not that odd looking anyway. Bit rich coming from a morbidly obese chap too. Although I can't remember his last post to not contain swearing and insult.

I'm sure Iniesta will take this scathing criticism on the chin, perhaps taking solace in the trophy room of his Barcelona mansion.

Probably in the top 10 midfielders of all time.

Bothered enough to reply with an inane and outdated yet never funny catchphase.

You bring shame on the good name of Wall-E.

I see you are just the latest person to become obsessed with me. Really, you just make yourself look stupid.

As for "morbidly obese" - please tell me how on earth you know that. You know nothing about me, just like I know nothing about you. Yes, I am not rake-like, but my Umbro size is XL, which is probably L in other clothes labeles. You've jumped on a moronic bandwagon of easy, lazy abuse about something you know nothing about.

I am getting quite fed up of my opinion being greeted with variants on the "fat bastard" theme. Mods, surely this constitutes abuse ?

You are happy to dish it out alpine

Throw in your aggressive rants

You must be about #1 troll on here nowadays; if anyone positions themselves with a strongly-held opinion, you come along and sneer at it and post a contrary comment or some specious little factlet as a leading question that in your opinion completely blows apart their viewpoint (often it gets nowhere near doing that). Thats Ok because you are not "aggressive", is it ?

Leave it out with the whiter-than-white garbage. You are dull and tedious.

Congratulations on your significant weight loss, it sounds like you've done really well.

Now I admit to being a fat b*stard. I need a 48-50in chest, which I think is somewhere between XXL and XXXL.

Well done for going to find that. A thread started in humour, a bit of fun, is used to bash me over the head at very opportunity years later.

What a bunch of sad f**ks you are.

The size was a screw up by my mother who bought and posted my sash shirt to me. My size is XL, which considering Umbro tailoring means probably L from other clothing manufacturers.

Look, you lot can take me to task for my opinions and outlook as much as you want. But this hack is getting really tedious.

I don't know whether to laugh at the comment or cry at the obsessive nature of trawling through 2 year old posts on a football forum.

This, really.

And I get abuse about being the sad billy-no-mates with no life.

At least I have no time or inclination to do this to someone on here, however much they've annoyed me.

See the little "advanced search" button at the top right? It's pretty useful for finding things very quickly; try it some time.

I imagine he is referring to the fact you bothered at all, not the amount of effort involved.

Actually, I being to feel sorry for you; clearly something is missing from your existence. You carry on with the "fat bastard" jibes mate, if it brings something to your sad life, and every time you do it I will remember that you are a dumb animal in need of love and attention...

Go fill yer boots.

Take the p*ss out of someone then go whining to the mods like a cry-baby in the playground. Superb.

Such delicious irony. Of course I didn't report it, you tool.

Anyway, this is thoroughly tedious. In the first case I wasn't even calling you fat, others were. Which I'm sure was precipitated by the fact that no-one realised your original claim to obesity was actually of a jocular nature and in no way at all related to your actual sized frame. So at least we've cleared that up, I'd have thought you'd see that as a positive.

Anyway, I have no desire to carry this on, so I know you love having the last words, you go for it and then we'll both move on.

Why would I bother? It seems a complete waste of time, unless one gets kicks out of searching for posts that can be used for some kind of self-gratifying smugness. But don't take offence, it was funny, I just found it a bit weird that Alps get's people so hot under the collar that they would go to these lengths for a bit of oneupmanship on a football forum.

this is quality forum stuff, from Saints play like Spain to Iniesta is crap to 'lets all abuse the troll', brilliant.

Spain are better than Saints

Iniesta is brilliant

and Alpine is either a WUM with a sad little life or he really is an A1 d ickhead (actually not the biggest on here though, he knows who he is), tbh I am not sure which one he is, be satisfying to know it was the latter really, at least then i haven't wasted my time writing this.
