A clue about what Cortese is telling transfer targets this summer...

Showing them the stadium, showing them the plans for Staplewood, showing them the potential St Mary's redevelopment...

Telling them and giving them the impression we are aiming to compete at the top with Manchester City...?

Büttner: "Southampton to Manchester City chasing"

Alexander Büttner currently has only one wish: that Vitesse reached an agreement with Southampton for his transfer to seal. The left trained Sunday along with his employer Arnhem, but the chance is real that the last time.

"I want to Southampton", as the defender falls straight to the house. "I am awaiting the clubs come out, but count on the cooperation of Vitesse." Büttner has a contract that expires after this season and can count on the interest of several clubs. Southampton was in 2009 taken over by a billionaire and promoted last season to the Premier League.

The Saints seem headed by billionaire willing to make the most money down. "It would be a very big disappointment when this did not happen," says Büttner. "I've been in Southampton and everything - to the living conditions to it - is perfect. Club, the stadium and the reception really surprised me. Beautiful. And Southampton has large ambitions. With the new lender they want Manchester City chasing."

As Google translate isn't great, I've asked a Dutchman to translate it for me...

Büttner: "Southampton wants to chase Man City."

Alexander Büttner currently only has one wish: that Vitessse reaches an agreement with Southampton to seal his transfer. The leftback trained on Sunday for his employer from Arnhem, but there's a real possibility that that was the last time.

"I want to go to Southampton", as the defender said curtly (loosely translated here). "I am waiting to see if the clubs reach an agreement, but I count on Vitesse's cooperation. Büttner has a contract that expires at the end of the season and can count on the interest of several clubs. Southampton was taken over by a billionaire in 2009 and got promoted to the Premier League last season.

The Saints appear to be willing to pay the most under the leading of the billionaire. "It would be a very big disappointment if this didn't happen" says Büttner. "I've been in Southampton and everything - even the living conditions - is perfect. The club, the stadium and the reception really surprised me. Beautiful. And Southampton has major ambitions. With the new backer they want to chase after Man City."

EH ??????????? On about Double Dutch:scared:

That translation is comical, it could mean anything.

Read Buttner's statement in the context it is written and it is clearly talking about the club's overall ambitions and resources, not just in one off games like the opening day of the season.

You are the man that translated booking a hotel conference room into there being a press conference today. Two completely different things and also an English to English translation! ;)

NC is actually telling players we are going to compete with Citeh next season?....at least I think that's what the jumble of english words at the top was saying...

You cant really take anything that NC might have said about future ambitions from that translation. "we want to be like Man City", "we want to chase Man City" - two different meaning straight away !

In order for Buttner to care about such an ambition it would have to be relatively soon.
Agreed. So probably the season after that or maybe 2014-15? Can't wait. Just a small point though; we'll need to sign better players than Buttner if we're going to directly compete with Man City.

That thread does not mention a "press conference". You jumped to that conclusion and then made a thread about it here. This is like a game of Chinese whispers!

It merely says a conference room has been booked, that could just be for the meeting to discuss terms with his agent.

Jesus Christ, give it a rest will you. One small comment at the end of an interview about a player wanting to join Saints and we're all supposed to speculate on what Cortese might be telling potential signings. Wow, new player likes the club and the area and is impressed by the chairmans ambition. What do you think he's going to say? Southampton is a sh*thole, the chairman is a c*nt but they're offering me premier league football and doubling my money.

Does every signing, for every club state that the team that they are potentially joining is aiming to directly compete at the top of the Premier League with Man City? He could have left it with "I'm impressed with Southampton and the stadium", he didn't need to then go on with the Man City claim.

Why is everyone being so negative? This FANTASTIC NEWS, and should be overwhelming proof for all the doubters about our Champions League candidacy. I can't wait, what a roller coaster journey this is, from the bowels of League 1 to chasing and usurping Manchester City. Great stuff.

I don't know and I don't care because I'm not interested in every signing for every club. I'd I'm certainly not knocking one out because a full back from Vitesse Arnhem said he likes Southampton and their ambitions chairman or reading into what he might have meant or said. And has already been said p, if we're going to challenge Man City we need sign players better than this anyway.

Read the title of the thread you created! You called it "Press conference today?"

http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?38754-Press-conference-today

You then go on to say "according to this" and link to a thread that doesn't mention a "press conference" at all. YOU are the one that brought up the phrase "press conference".

You have to build towards that, at the moment we can't even offer Europa League football next season, let alone Champions League. If we have a good season next year we'll be able to step up another step in players we can attract next summer.

Please. Learn when to STFU. He simply posted up a link from another site with some question marks. You on the other hand see nothing wrong with starting whole new threads on nothing more substantial then something you imagine Cortese might have said.

I find it ironic that someone so obsessed with tedium and being in need of every single piece of information when invited to give an opinion on anything, which he is often unable to give is so keen for people to endlessly speculate on one small comment in an interview, like this and like his infamous "what we can expect to see soon" thread.

Really? I was expecting us to challenging Man City this season. So how long do you think it will take for us to challenge Man City?

in fact read the link to the ugly and my post where I actually suggested it could be for an Anne Summers Party.. but don't hold me to that, I will not take responsibility for you going there to get a vibrator to satisfy your obvious frustrations

Still doesn't make sense. You started a thread called "Press Conference?" and used a link that made no mention of press conferences to support it.

Stop being such a pr1ck; everyone apart from the most anally retentive can see what he was getting at. Even if the "press conference" thing was wrong, who cares apart from you in your desperate and ultimately fruitless quest to be seen as correct about everything and anything?

26 people have retweeted my Tweet about this and I've gained about over 30 new followers since I posted it, so some people are clearly interested. ;)

Yes!!! Now you've really made it!!! 26 reweets in one morning is an incredible achievement, round of applause for MLG.
