Not like delldays to mention Saints fans moaning. Seriously, I've seen you post it on about 4 different occasions this week alone. WE GET IT.

Is this this a forum member moaning about a forum member moaning about forum members moaning? I daren't moan about this otherwise I fear the universe might implode.

Rickie looks a bit bemused in that photo, I wonder if he was pulling that face because he wasn't to sure about the new kit either?
Looks like he's just squeezed one out and it's touching cloth.

From Pompey Online....

They've put some gay posters up around st fairies and one of them is Ward-Prowse in their new kit kissing the scum badge. Ex-Fratton Park Season Ticket Holder and Pompey fan kissing the scum badge. Even if they paid him loads of cash to do it, it still isn't right. The dirty little scummer.

Probably wondering if the fact that he is in a Liverpool shirt is some sort of Game For A Laugh or Punked set up, and is waiting for the REAL Saints shirt to appear.

The dirty Skates could only dream about having quality players in quality shirts in quality poses in quality massive billboards on the quality wall of a quality stadium.

All they have on the walls of their stadium is graffiti.

The obese depressive from Austria will be having a wa.nkfest as soon as we get our 1st dicking.

God forbid if they haven't made a XXXXXXXXXXXXL size home shirt, he'll go into meltdown.

But has anybody actually seen him in Southampton? Is he really that rotund?

Apparently there is not an airline seat in existence that can accommodate his fantastically engorged frame. Or an airline built that can take off and fly without his huge weight causing it to return swiftly to earth.

Or something.

Still when he makes his world cup debut in 2018 he'll be a P*mpey boy through and through!!

Jar Rodriguez - for the future. Are we putting him in the development squad?

Good idea from the club but bad execution. The stadium clearly needs tarting up a bit but we can do better than this sort of cheesy corporate crap.

Ooh. I loathe all that vacuous branding nonsense. Why couldnt they just put some good pictures of the players up without the badge kissing, moody faced carp?

Its supposed to build affinity but it just turns me off, making my club look like another company trying to sell me something (yes I know they are really but...)

Exactly this. What is the need for it? Cheap and pointless.

Likewise. I love it that we're doing things properly and creating a brand now.

And I absolutely love the Ward-Prowse photo.... LMFAO @ Skates.

What sort of football fan gets excited about "creating a brand"? Why do we need to "create a brand" and why does it excite you?

Increased revenue = increased potential. I'm pretty excited about the professional vibe about the club now as well, I didn't realise I wasn't allowed to be.

I'll try and help...

All over St Mary's (and other grounds I've been to) there are pictures of all types...Players, past glories, burgers, pies, beer, trains(!), adverts for events, club emblems...Liverpool make a big thing of their 'This is Anfield' slogan....there are statues, posters advertising the next games - I know you know all this because you've probably been to more games and grounds (I'd probably doubt the latter because I'm an old f art who likes driving and has been to a good percentage of the league grounds) but the correlation I'm trying to make is that it's all about creating the experience of identitifying with the match-going and all that goes with it

You may say (and probably you and I would be the same in this) is that you're a dyed in the wool, hard-core Saints fan and you don't need this to be a Saints fan, that you find it embarrassing (I don't incidentally) but at some stage you got hooked..possibly first time you went (I did) and I'm sure you didn't notice the posters, the next fixtures board, the advertisements, the club flags and emblems or the tannoy announcements but they were all part of the experience,

These are part of the modern day equivalent of the same - you may hate that it's more scientifically thought out, that suited whizz kids are probably employed to produce the images and slogans but it's all part of the same 'come along and be a part of this' ethos that's been around since football club competitions have been in existence.

You might dislike the medium, you might take an irrational hatred against the look in a player's eyes or a slogan that you don't think befits your image of your club but that image has been shaped by the forerunners of just this type of thing and you are a product of it.

Whether I like or dislike it is immaterial but as it happens I'd prefer Saints related pictures to grey corrugated iron or a big airline logo...and in the latter you have the major part of the reasoning....that airline paid a fortune to put that logo there because they wanted to be a part of something positive, something that made people feel good...do I need to go on?

Quite. Although as it gets me out of bed on a weekday, brand building in itself is quite interesting....

....however this is garbage. When building a brand one of the more important things is maximise and exploit the things (brand assets) that make you a brand in the first place. What the club have done is chuck one of our very biggest assets in the bin, making brand building significantly harder. Second, this is decorating our own stadium. The posters look okay but it aint brand building as they will be primarily seen by match going fans, the people that need the least brand building.

Nice to see the usual "this is AMAZING" response from the Cult of Cortese but jesus christ a couple of posters round the stadium. Whoopee.

QThis is not brand building

It just a few pictures to make the place look a bit better and cover up the soulless grey metal.

Just an extension of all the pictures in te concourses

Perhaps we should have had pictures of the fans or statue with "passion" written on it. Some fans think that is a great idea

Would rather see picture of our current players than soulless grey metal, or a huge AAP3 logo or even worse, a 10 foot picture of a disgustingly over weight fan stood in the Northam with his arms stretches out wide in mid song, whilst covered in face paint

You seriously believe these posters, and all the slogans we're now seeing, aren't part of a wider initiative to build the SFC brand? Have you not seen the marketing brochures sent to firms in the area? They make great effort to emphasise the importance of being associated with two names: the Premier League and the Saints. And you say there's no point putting them on the stadium as they'll "primarily be seen by the people that need the least brand building"? Do you believe everyone who goes to matches is Saints for life? Some are there to "give it a try" and therefore are the exact people that need to be targeted. As for the "Cult of Cortese", I believe many feel the need to over-champion all he's done for the club in reaction to those who seem to have some sort of vendetta against him.

Note I didn't open with "this is garbage", I'm more of a fan of debate with respect.

The one of Lambert is so bad it's funny. Any one of countless photos of his goal celebrations would have been perfect for the logo.

Arsenal have player's pictures all round the Emirates though they include past players which I think is a bit more meaningful. Can't see Cortese doing that somehow.

Jesus. You'll be raving about our world class catering next.

Saints have done bill board campaigns before, and have done corporate blitz campaigning before.

And day trippers to their first game may be slightly more swayed by the performance on the pitch than some flipping posters outside the stadium...

So glad you have admitting to over-championing because that's precisely what you've done.

Funny how the more 'passionate' the fans are and how much better the Premier league gets year on year (according to Sky anyway) the ****ter the atmosphere in English league grounds becomes. Still, like everyone else, I'm a mug and will keep on sucking it up.

I didn't say they hadn't done it before, I just said I believed your opinion that it wasn't a branding exercise was wide of the mark. You now seem to agree it was branding though, hence your comparisons with previous bill board and corporate blitz campaigns.

I agree re your day trippers point, but it all adds to the experience, especially for the kids - see dronskisaint's post above. And let's be honest, the football can put people off sometimes!

And good attempt at twisting my words. Yes, I do admit some over-champion Cortese's contribution, but that's besides the point. Cortese deserves a huge amount of credit for what he's done - the fact some disagree with this is madness in my opinion. And agreeing that something has been over-championed implies agreement that something should be championed as well ;)

How will it bring in significant amounts of money for the club?

I don't have a problem with pics of Saints players around the ground, that in itself is a good idea, just the cr@p, cheesy marketing spin that seems to go with everything these days.

I think they look fine.

I really don't understand the vitroile of so called supporters sometimes. I mean, we're back in the Prem...we've got players who want to stay at the club - love the club and the City/area and talisman players like Lambert who kids can identify and look up to. We've got a Chairman and Team Manager (plus backroom) who have transformed the club into something to be proud of. AND we're playing great football to boot.

And STILL we've got the trolls and WUMs on here bleating about some posters! How sad is that?!

The ward-prose one is worth it alone, ****.ing hilarious! I really hope that's above the away gate and we get the skates in the cup. Can you imagine their reaction on seeing that on the way in? Priceless...

Got to be honest i do think they're a little mickey mouse in general but we're back in the land of hype and bullsh/it so it's hardly a surprise. Don't really get the people who are backing this branding stuff so much, surely any intelligent person can see through this kind of rubbish, mind you there are many people that walk around as an advertising hoarding for brands so maybe not.
