lloydie Posted 1 July, 2012 Share Posted 1 July, 2012 I fancy Sunderland to struggle. They finished last season weakly after a strong first half. Really? With O'neil in charge thats a brave choice! (granted they were on an awful run of form as soon as they were safe!) I think Norwich will go down (something isnt right at that club re: holt, lambert etc) Add to that list Villa who were dross last season and even with lanbert in charge now i still think their midfield has little or no bite to it and is worse than purs without petrov playing. I'd also say, for the final space that it will be close between us(if we dont sign anyone else, but we probably will) west brom, reading fulham and wigan. Hopkins Posted 1 July, 2012 Share Posted 1 July, 2012 Fulham? They will be more than fine. Norwich, West Brom and Reading are going down by the way. This is fact.
Hopkins Posted 1 July, 2012 Share Posted 1 July, 2012 Oh and Stoke will probably struggle too. **** poor manager, football and midfield will finally catch up with them.
Thedelldays Posted 1 July, 2012 Share Posted 1 July, 2012 I think Wigan will go down the fact they have stayed up is a miracle alone however, they simply cannot keep on selling their best players...if moses goes, I really cannot see any quality they have to stay up martinez is a great manager though Norwich or swansea will struggle...one of those will go down I think stoke may struggle but have enough in their team to survive I think Reading will go down too I think west ham will do the best out of the 3 that went up
Cabrone Posted 1 July, 2012 Share Posted 1 July, 2012 From the day we got promoted I thought that 4th from bottom would be a result for us. Fans need to have realistic expectations for 2012/13. As it stands the current team would be likely relegation material IMO but we still have the transfer window to strengthen in key areas like GK, CM, CH so it all depends on who we we buy. First up is GK. We need a class keeper.
Turkish Posted 1 July, 2012 Share Posted 1 July, 2012 Oh and Stoke will probably struggle too. **** poor manager, football and midfield will finally catch up with them. How can you say he's a p*ss poor manager? He's got them promoted and established them as a midtable premier league side and got the pm into Europe and the FA Cup final. Does the mean Strachan was a p*ss poor manager as that is exactly what he did with us?

Gordon Mockles Posted 1 July, 2012 Share Posted 1 July, 2012 Slightly odd article, based around the single premis that Reading have purchased a striker who has played 12 games in the PL for 1m less than we have paid for a striker who has not played in the PL. Do they really think this is the extent of the business we or Reading will do this summer (Reading have since signed Guthrie of course). And Reading apparently are odds on to go down yet we are evens (and how Wet Sham are 9/4 is beyond me). Lets not forget also that the last Club to win back to back promotions (before Norwich who have done very well) was the crap team Man City who went straight back down (before coming back up and winning the title). So much is written on the web these days that the talent for this writing is spread very thinly indeed, as displayed very well by this article which quite frankly could have been written by a 10 year old. Only time will tell, but I am confident of a mid table finish, and that Reading will stay up as well. Wise post & the article is clearly written by a stupid journalist. Or at least, an ill-thought article. As you say, the basis for the entire headline is down to a Russian national being purchased who, according to their journalistic wisdom, is much better equipped for PL football due to a limited run of games. Overlooking the fact, Jay Rod is British & played against some of these players & certainly with a better insight into the English game. Not to mention the language. So, Reading are streets ahead. Now they've signed Guthrie, they must be challenging for CL under this hack's logic. He has clearly not noticed Rickie, Holt, Jay-Rod & the potential & realised potential for success. I bet he's of the same mentality saying that Rickie would struggle in the Championship. Banality in a tabloid; who would have thought. More a case of a solipsistic view from a dim journalist that doesn't do much research to fuel his obscure opinion.

The article is a snapshot in time of prospects right now, to go alongside the current betting market. Reading have done more than us in the transfer market so far. Pogrebnyak has won the title in Russia and played in the Bundesliga as well as last year in the PL. He's also played 33 times for his country. So he clearly has more top level experience than Rodriguez. J-Rod is arguably the better option long term, Pogrbnyak is a safer bet in the short term. I'm sure other articles will be written and odds changed when Cortese flashes the cash a little bit more and bolsters the squad. Until then I don't see too much wrong with the article, in terms of what we know right now. Of course, the whole concept of Reading being better equipped to stay up yet having longer odds than we do to stay up is thoroughly weird!

MOSaint Posted 1 July, 2012 Share Posted 1 July, 2012 Think Reading will be disappointed with Pogrebnyak in the end, outside his run of form at Fulham his goalscoring record is average at best barring one good season at Zenit five years ago. svetigpung Posted 1 July, 2012 Share Posted 1 July, 2012 Who knows...? Looking back at last season i was sure QPR had the best chance of doing well in the Prem L. But both Swansea and Norwich proved the exact opposite, for most of the season anyway. Who guessed that before the season kicked off? Gonna be full of surprises and its gonna be great seeing who excedes expectations and who has a disaster. Reckon both us and Reading are equally equipped for the PL. There are other teams i'd rather see beneath us ...Wham, Wigan , Stoke.

I think your argument is flimsy & as lacking as the hack's "earth shattering sensationalism". I am the furthest fan from blinkered you will find. I am utterly realistic only I don't agree with this article. Bookies have complex databases & algorithms analysing every conceivable stat & probability. The journo has piggy backed on the back of some stats & has created a premise which I & some others think is weak & flimsy at best. Stats are stats. Human intervention, wisdom, understanding & prediction can rarely be replicated by even the most complex equations & algorithms. In this case, it's such a thin line & inane line, I think the article is virtually baseless & flogging a dead horse to get a rise tinier that an amoeba 's erection! Especially if he operates in a manner akin to Putin towards his Oligarchs. [Putin] - "You will not infer I paid over the odds for a comodity as a kick back" Oh, you will?! *cue said individual having his company, reputation, employees & contacts decimated by a bully state that doesn't take kindly to answering to anyone. Then said Oligarch being thrown in jail*
