Bit disappointing I thought given the praise that goes with every mention of our academy.

Looks like it's all about being with a top flight club (well one that was there last season anyway) again doesn't it.

Actually playing for them doesn't matter. Then again our young players aren't in the first team either, guess it's about esteem of the coaching structure.

Clearly not, there players from West Ham, Birmingham and Middlesborough there, all of which were in the championship last season.

Saints crop of good youngsters are largely in the England age groups just below this. A number of them have had England recognition (Ward-Prowse, Shaw, Chambers, Stephens and Mugabi). This under 19 England team just happens to coincide with a poor year for Saints, perhaps partly influenced by them coming through at a time when the club was struggling for cash.
