Club website contract

Now we have reached the dizzy heights of the premiership, didn't Nicola previously state that we would be able to 'buy' out our contract with our website hosts? Seem to remember this question being asked at one of his invertational dinners he had hosted not so long ago?

What a shower of ****e the current website is, cannot stand the crappy format.

A new website is on the way - it's just a bit delayed while the bugs in it are fixed. There is a new platform being created for all the clubs who contract with Football League Interactive and it looks loads better (about 80 of the top 4 leagues clubs will be on it). SaintsPlayer will still be from the current provider though.

If you google it you'll find the press releases from the companies involved.

It seems the new websites may be beginning to get rolled out. Here's Barnsley's. I'm guessing ours will be virtually similar?

it's better but not keen on it, for a multi million pound industry that is a sh*theap of a site. the heavy colours are bad on the eye, its a bit 2008 as sites go, too much going on, the layout is still all over the place imo, too much scrolling down, and the background doesn't stay stationary. plus its still covered in ads. just compare in to the citeh site.

If that's been done by Sapient Nitro as someone said i'm very surprised, they're one of the top three agencies in the country and normal produce a much higher standard than that.

Obviously the splash screen still ruins it and there are some nice features - they've cleaned up the nav for a start - but i'd hazard a guess the clutter is because the client (football league) wants everything above the fold.

Frankly the Man City site is almost as bad as the Barnsley site. The ManU, Chelsea and Arsenal sites are much better, more useable and less of a visual assault.

Chelsea are pitching for a redesign at the moment and both Man U and Arsenal are dated, the equivalent of a team kit by someone like Umbro. I'd imagine there's been a large amount of research into users on the new football league template and it does a good job of displaying the content in a good way, the problem they have seems to be to be the need to get everything above the fold on low res screens.

It's also i'm guessing a case of the browser you see it on, if you're viewing on an old version of IE on something like XP you'll have a far worse user experience than if you're viewing it on something like the latest edition of chrome.

This is actually a standard industry technique now and in many cases it's actually expected that IE users will have a worse experience than people using decent modern browsers because IE just can't do the same things modern browsers can.

Maybe explains the club photographers tweets the other day. Possible background for the website?

Wattsypics: Currently half way around st Mary's doing pics of stands top middle and bottom need water!!

Sounds like he was doing the "what does the view look like from your season ticket seat" photos for the ticketing website.

All I ask for is a Saints Player that works direct on an iPad. Seriously who uses Flash these days. Any website wanting to avoid a big % of their visitors being unable to view the content, must enable it for iPads/Phone.

Apple have been fairly petty in their tactics regarding this, but they will win.

The club is aware that the existing site is poor and are working on producing a new one within the next week or so. They are "tied in" to the old provider and are staying with ...for now.

I hope they're using someone different to whoever set up their online ticketing site.
