Alexander Büttner

Signing a third would have blocked his path. How you we want 50% of players to come through the academy and then block someone like Shaw he would just leave and go to Arsenal or Chelsea.

Why would it block his path? These sort of comments are ridiculous. If he is better than the left backs we have he'll play, if he isn't he wont.

Well at long last that's that. Been bumping along for too long now.

Happy with Fox and Shaw - 2 good players in my opinion. Lot of confidence in Shaw and Ward-Prowse, I think they're the next stars to come through.

Fox is also a very good player IMO. Underrated by many.

Spending 4M on a left back only to play a LB from your own academy instead is ridiculous.

Okay...spend 4m on Buttner, then by Xmas Shaw has overtaken him. Does this make sense to you?

He is competing with Fox and if good enough will play. Clearly top teams are very keen on him and he looked comfortable in pre season - no point splashing out on Buttner only for Shaw to be the first choice ahead of him in 6 months.

I'm not too confident about only having Fox and Shaw tbh. Obviously Adkins is assuming that Dickson is out of the question, and I agree that he's prob not up to Prem standard. I see Fox as a player who could do ok in the Prem, but without setting the world alight (his earlier experience was of that sort), whilst Shaw is very young and completely unproven. Unless Shaw is really good and already physically tough enough, I'd like to see a quality LB in to compete with Fox.

Adkins seems to think so. I bet he does a fine job in keeping SDR and Guly quiet in training each day

Saint Charlie and MLG have together posted over 100x on this thread....... What a waste of time!

Should seek compensation from somewhere

Saint Charlie should be thankful for something to do. Not much fun being in a damp and dingy bedsit all day long.

The new Skacel, thus replacing him with "that" joke for the next six or so years...

Fox and Shaw worried me at first, especially with Shaw being the unknown entity, but the management must have faith in the nipper and Arsenal and co must see something in him. Seaborne can play left back anyway! :-D

I wouldn't count on Seaborne playing anything except golf just yet. The odd appearance for the U21s doesn't mean he's fighting fit or ready to take on the Prem. In fact, was he eve ready to take on the Prem?

He made the bench today though...

Odd one that, not quite sure what quite happened. A fair bit of 3rd Party mucking around and Cortese got a bit ****ed I reckon.

Never mind, move on. I think it's easy to highlight fox today, but he wasn't as bad as being made out. Remember who he was up against by the way, and also remember the fact that he had to mark a roaming Nasri, as well as marauding Zabellta all game as he had no cover - he's going to look more exposed, there's not a great deal he was going to be able to do there.

The header for the third goal was unlucky, and it could have happened to anyone. Just not quite sorting his feet out and didn't get the direction he intended. I think he's a good player, and I'd rather give him a longer chance to prove himself than some seem to be.

Manchester United have apparently agreed to sign Alexander Büttner today from Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem, with De Gelderlander reporting a medical is scheduled to take place tomorrow.

after reading the last paragraph of that report, i think he would be more at home with our fishy neighbours!
