Davis was announced at nine at night. That is not normal.

What is normal in the world of 24/7 media coverage

But when was the last before that?

Or should the club have waited till 0900 on the monday

No they didn't need to wait until Monday. Nice try....

SD was not just an announcement. It was a photoshoot and full quoted interview. i.e. the signing confirmed hours before and could have been announced earlier, with the lovely photoshoot following later.

Anyway, not that important.

I think this is from the Vitesse supporters site.

http://www.vitesse.org/nieuws/vitesse_in_de_media/uit_de_media/alexander_buttner_toeschouwer_bij_wilhelmina_2708_-_vitesse.html

"Buttner was Thursday and spectators along the line during the exhibition game Wilhemina '08 - Vitesse. It is unclear whether the left-Vitesse is definitely swap Southampton, England.

Thursday morning was an article on vitesse.nl short time in which the club reported that the transfer was the final round. Some time later, the message is already gone.

Buttner was in the interest of several clubs. he spoke Fulham and Southampton. With the last club he was fast. Also, Vitesse and Southampton came to an agreement. Next came a kink in da cable 'additional requirements of a third party. "

Vitesse anticipated the impending departure of Buttner by Patrick van Aanholt Cheksea another year of hire.

The Vitesse supporters waiting on the final reports.

Vitesse won without the Sprint Player of the previous season Alexander Buttner, with 1-6 Wilhelmina '08 in Weert."

If this isnt concluded before the end of the weekend I really don't think it will be at all.

I'll go a bit further than that and say if it doesnt complete today, it never will.

Cant see NA dn NC dwelling on this further when the friendlies have started and there is still much else to be done.

If Buttner has travelled over to Saints, it has to be odds on that he will now sign. Everything but the medical and signing are now settled and acceptale, otherwise the is no point in the trip. So this very much just looks like the medical being the final obstacle.

I thought it was a pre-season press conference like last years?

In last years it was announced:

- Lambert signed a new contract

- Cork bid accepted

- Sharp bid accepted but move wasnt to go ahead

He'll talk about the season ahead, potential transfer moves, pre season plans etc. Not just based on tomorrow?

He will talk about what he is asked about, but as Simon Peachs says (who has actually been invited) it is a presser to preview the Liebherr Cup.

Is it confirmed that he's travelled over then?

Fourth Official on Twitter was reporting it's virtually a done deal the other day. He's normally spot on as well.

LOL you do realise he's just some 16 year old kid who copy and pastes stuff from elsewhere. He knows **** all.

Any news on Buttner or is it dead in the water?

Starting to feel this one has gone. Hence the ramped up interest in Clyne, who can also play either side at full back.

Did we ever establish who the "third party" was?

If it really was Buttner's father, as rumoured at one point, I could see Cortese cooling on the deal.

I can't see Büttner staying at Vitesse, as mentioned they already have a replacement for him and he only has one year left on his contract. I'm not at all confident that we'll be signing him unless the mystery third-party drops their claim. Its not like Cortese to just hand over a bit more money to some shady third party. Either Büttner manages to come to some agreement with the third-party or he goes somewhere else. The worst thing for him would be to stay at Vitesse but with both Saints and Vitesse having rich owners they can afford to be principal and Büttner can be the one losing the most.

This bit about Davis contradicts what Adkins has been saying: "Steven Davis, who is still unable to play until FIFA sort out his international transfer certificate wrangle."

After such a bright start closing the deal for J-Rod, this transfer window is turning into a bit of a turkey..

Acording to that report, we've hardly started on our shopping list.

Have any of the other ex Rangers played any friendlies for their new clubs yet?

Lafferty played in a friendly for Sion, but has since been sidelined waiting for FIFA clearance.

Steven Naismith (Everton) - played Morecambe but he didn't play.

Steven Whittaker (Norwich) - first friendly is on 21st away to Hertha Berlin.

Rhys McCabe and Sone Aluko (both free agents) were the original 4

Steven Davis has joined us and not played yet, see above for Lafferty.

I think this deal is dead in the water. Looks like we are going for the 'Blackpool' scenario. See how we get on but happy to get relegated and collect the premier money !

Yes. Those are the only two possible scenarios. Sign Buttner or get relegated.

May, June and July gave Saints fans the luxury of living in their fantasy world, but as we approach August reality is just around the corner and it is going to smack some fans hard and right between the eyes !
