SNOWY Posted 10 July, 2012 Share Posted 10 July, 2012 Do you really think either club gives a f*ck about fans speculating on a mong board as to what might have happened? No. But I bet Vitesse aren't happy about having to make official statements on their own site about this.
the saint in winchester Posted 10 July, 2012 Share Posted 10 July, 2012 Just read the BBC report on this. My view is that this is entirely a matter between the player and the third party. If any third party, or fourth party, wants a sum paid then the player has to fund it, not the two clubs who have negotiated the deal in good faith. ART Posted 10 July, 2012 Share Posted 10 July, 2012 Well Vitesse have now signed patrick Van Aanholt, a left back on loan from Chelsea for the season... Maybe Van Aanholt or Chelsea is the third party. Maybe they were holding up the loan deal which effected whether Buttner was free to leave Vitesse. Saint Martini Posted 10 July, 2012 Share Posted 10 July, 2012 In this article it says that it was Büttner that informed Vitesse that there was a third party wanting money. My best guess is that its some former agent wanting a piece of the pie and that Büttner can't get out of it.
Saint Garrett Posted 10 July, 2012 Share Posted 10 July, 2012 If he is that bothered about coming to Southampton, then he will sort out his private issue with his former/current agent/third party ownership. If he's not willing, he's clearly not bothered about being here therefore we should go after someone else.
PaulGilchrist_76 Posted 10 July, 2012 Share Posted 10 July, 2012 Surely this is something that should have been discussed earlier in negotiations. Cortese can't be happy with this! Are protracted transfers the 'Southampton Way' of doing things?

Are protracted transfers the 'Southampton Way' of doing things? Nope, just the ''Football way'' of doing things. There isn't any transfer in the world which is straight forward, trust me. There are so many niggly bits of paper, and clauses to go through before anything can happen. This has just been released into the media, that's all. If it wasn't for his club this would still be a 'rumored' interest, and we wouldn't be panicking etc. All of what Vitesse have said should really have stayed behind closed doors if we're honest. I don't think anyone is panicking - our foreign imports have been a bit hit & miss anyway. Besides, we have about a million other left backs at the club. Matthew Le God Posted 10 July, 2012 Share Posted 10 July, 2012 (edited) This is the most ridiculous reason for a transfer breakdown I've ever heard. I agree, hard to believe that is the real reason if it really has broken down. Adam Blackmore's Tweets where he gives details of an interview he held with Buttner's agent saying he thinks "the deal can still happen, 3rd party issues resolved and Southampton in control of deal" seem more credible. CB Fry Posted 11 July, 2012 Share Posted 11 July, 2012 Hats off to Vitesse for taking the time to let their fans know exactly what is happening with one of their star players. I am sure their fans appreciate the honesty and the communication. I know we all support a far more progessive club and not being told anything at all is, like, so enlightened and foward thinking and really amazing. But maybe I'm stuck in the past and like a club trying to communicate with fans. Even if it is, like, sooo Eighties.

Would you have liked it if Arsenal were officially communicating to their fans about Walcott or Ox before they had officially signed? Well my point was generally aimed at those on this thread suggesting Vitesse should adopt this 'Southampton Way". In reality Vitesse have done the right thing - it looks like they have agreed a fee to sell this player to us and that is what they have told their fans. I would expect Saints to do the same thing. Whether they would or not is debatable.

I am perfectly happy with that. Think most people are. But equally, those same people will then moan when we have only made 2 signings with only a month until the first game when Reading have made 5. Cortese can't win. If we really want Buttner we will put up with the situation, deal with it and seal the deal. If we aren't so bothered and the alarm bells ring then we will drop out. Dig Dig Posted 11 July, 2012 Share Posted 11 July, 2012 The issue was only between Vitesse and the player/agent. All this speculation that NC will suddenly pull out because of it is nonesense, no matter how much people would like to believe that to be the case. Why don't people wait and see what happens before sharpening their daggers ready for NC. The club have done nothing wrong here.

Personally, I think we have options in Büttner's positons already. If NA and NC are more focused on the GK and CB positions now, they may well let this one drop.
