Do you really think either club gives a f*ck about fans speculating on a mong board as to what might have happened?

No. But I bet Vitesse aren't happy about having to make official statements on their own site about this.

Posted
Well Vitesse have now signed patrick Van Aanholt, a left back on loan from Chelsea for the season...
Maybe Van Aanholt or Chelsea is the third party. Maybe they were holding up the loan deal which effected whether Buttner was free to leave Vitesse.
Posted

In this article it says that it was Büttner that informed Vitesse that there was a third party wanting money.

My best guess is that its some former agent wanting a piece of the pie and that Büttner can't get out of it.

Posted

If he is that bothered about coming to Southampton, then he will sort out his private issue with his former/current agent/third party ownership. If he's not willing, he's clearly not bothered about being here therefore we should go after someone else.

Posted
Surely this is something that should have been discussed earlier in negotiations. Cortese can't be happy with this!

Are protracted transfers the 'Southampton Way' of doing things?

Nope, just the ''Football way'' of doing things.

There isn't any transfer in the world which is straight forward, trust me. There are so many niggly bits of paper, and clauses to go through before anything can happen.

This has just been released into the media, that's all. If it wasn't for his club this would still be a 'rumored' interest, and we wouldn't be panicking etc. All of what Vitesse have said should really have stayed behind closed doors if we're honest.

I don't think anyone is panicking - our foreign imports have been a bit hit & miss anyway. Besides, we have about a million other left backs at the club.

All is not lost...

Adam Blackmore ‏@bigadamsport

Had chat tonight with Alex Buttner's agent , & tech dir'tor at Vitesse - putting it out for @BBCRadioSolent 0720 sport in morning #saintsfc

Adam Blackmore ‏@bigadamsport

One headline from Buttner's agent: thinks deal can still happen, 3rd party issues resolved, he says. #saintsfc in control of deal.

OK Saints fans will put you out of your misery. Buttner deal broken down because his dad, not any agent, wants a slice of the fee #saintsfc

Hmmm...

Me: Dad I've got a new job

Dad: Can I have some money

Me: No

Is his dad Mark Chamberlain as well ?

Heard a snippet tonight that might make you change your mind Dave.

Still don't buy it Ron, can't see how this deal would be dependant upon that. Interesting though.

This is the most ridiculous reason for a transfer breakdown I've ever heard.

I agree, hard to believe that is the real reason if it really has broken down.

Adam Blackmore's Tweets where he gives details of an interview he held with Buttner's agent saying he thinks "the deal can still happen, 3rd party issues resolved and Southampton in control of deal" seem more credible.

Frankly what a load of ********! All this crypticc nudge nudge crap is ridiculous. If you know either keep it to yourself or post it on here............or maybe you all feel a little bit important.

Not Peter White the blind Solent/Radio 4 presenter, surely?

Always comes across as thoroughly good chap, great broadcaster and Saints fan.

Just looked on twitter and clearly not him. Thought that transfer rumours were beneath him...

Apologies for having a conversation with myself on here. Should have at least changed to one of my many other logins but couldn't be bothered.

Hats off to Vitesse for taking the time to let their fans know exactly what is happening with one of their star players. I am sure their fans appreciate the honesty and the communication.

I know we all support a far more progessive club and not being told anything at all is, like, so enlightened and foward thinking and really amazing.

But maybe I'm stuck in the past and like a club trying to communicate with fans. Even if it is, like, sooo Eighties.

You're absolutely right. I think there should be a section on the OS tied into a social media feed where every action the club takes in respect of a player not currently contracted to Saints is disclosed to the public immediately, as soon as it's taken. Maybe even before if possible...

But it isn't as if our club don't let us know through the media what is happening to our star players who are the subject of media speculation, is it? I seem to recall quite a lot of comment from us along the lines that we don't want to sell Luke Shaw. Or did I dream it?

Not sure other clubs would like us to be publishing stories about their players. Would you have liked it if Arsenal were officially communicating to their fans about Walcott or Ox before they had officially signed?

Yeah, and this is the worst message of the lot.

Its fallen through because NC has tired very quickly of the sh*t, I reckon. We all know he gives short shrift to these sort of shennanigans (rightly so, imo).

The fact that the agent is putting the pressure on saints isn't a good sign and we all know how our leader reacts to being put under pressure from agents and players.

Must have dreamt the club saying shaw is going nowhere

Who else have our better players/prospects been linked with

I would like to think that Nicola would put the fact that we WANTED the player in the first place way above all the politics that has gone on

Well my point was generally aimed at those on this thread suggesting Vitesse should adopt this 'Southampton Way".

In reality Vitesse have done the right thing - it looks like they have agreed a fee to sell this player to us and that is what they have told their fans.

I would expect Saints to do the same thing. Whether they would or not is debatable.

Normally agree with you, but not on this one.

NC has set his stall out to players, clubs and agents : Don't f**k with me.

I am perfectly happy with that.

There was one other fairly significant deal that almost didn't happen, because of some to-ing and fro-ing, with a few public statements not helping, but we still got our man... Nigel Adkins himself.

I reckon if we really want the player, we'll sign him.

Think most people are. But equally, those same people will then moan when we have only made 2 signings with only a month until the first game when Reading have made 5. Cortese can't win.

If we really want Buttner we will put up with the situation, deal with it and seal the deal. If we aren't so bothered and the alarm bells ring then we will drop out.

Posted

The issue was only between Vitesse and the player/agent. All this speculation that NC will suddenly pull out because of it is nonesense, no matter how much people would like to believe that to be the case.

Why don't people wait and see what happens before sharpening their daggers ready for NC.

The club have done nothing wrong here.

Maybe it will come down to how much NA really wants him.

Personally, I think we have options in Büttner's positons already. If NA and NC are more focused on the GK and CB positions now, they may well let this one drop.
