Whilst you're both playing the clique card, I'm not getting on Hammond's case. He served us well & had a purpose. He's just not a PL player. I was happy to see him appear less last season but he put in some good shifts but he will never be a luminaire in midfield & whilst many may pipe up that a decent midfielder doesn't get noticed, this can be true but I much preferred Cork & Morgan (sounds like a brand of rum!) & Hammond's game lacks too much for PL football.

As for LB which was the actual position in question, Harding needs to go along with Dickson. No time for sentimentality (although Harding isn't one for that anyway!) Thanks lads.

Maybe we've only ever been after Buttner and not Butland? Just a thought.

Saints go big for butts etc.

Adkins desperate for some Butt? ;)

So, perhaps we will sign Buttner for the left side.

What about Lars Bender ? To play at the back obviously.

Pretty highly rated at his club. I'd say we're probably looking to get better than what we have, and if he's an upgrade to Fox then I'm all for it. Harding wont' feature next year I'd imagine, and obviously Dickson won't - so we're down 2 left backs already.

We have a screaming need for centrebacks, goalkeepers and a midfielder or two, but there are precious few believable rumours about any of those. That is why I can't help thinking the agents like linking us to whatever player they're trying to sell, without any foundation in fact.

On the leftback we've got Fox, Harding and Shaw. (I'm writing off Dickson at this point.) Shaw is for the future, but he will get a run-on in a cup game or two. With absolute certainty I can declare that we will not be buying left backs before both Dickson and one more, probably Harding, are gone or are going. When Cortese arrived we had an enormous squad of players, most of which were never going to play for us again. Finally there is only one left who is a goalie nobody rates. NC isn't going to make the same mistakes which brought us to that point, so let's stop dreaming.

If there is any truth in this rumour it is because a deal is being made regarding one of our existing leftbacks.

Buttner signed today.... From a good source within the club who was there today!!

Blimey. Ifthat's true then I may have to claim a new SWF record. Of only posting once on a close season HCDAJFU thread, and then 2 hours behind the first lead on him, damn. If only I had started the Buttner thread having seen Saints FanZone retweet something other than Dickson getting plastered with Tommy F again

maybe mean Harding is definitely off

Would imagine so. Looks like the Club weren't too sure about Harding next season either. I think he's been a great servant for us to be honest, our first signing under the new management and a steady player IMO, never did much wrong and was always a 7/10 player. Will always remember him fondly if he does go.

Interesting to see though that the piece says we haven't agreed an offer yet with Vitesse? Are we even allowed to talk to him then?

Sometimes clubs allow the player to talk to the club whilst 'negotiations' are on going, I've heard of that before.
