ben05 Posted 26 June, 2012 Share Posted 26 June, 2012 Has anyone got experience of this? I’ve been researching it the past few days. Plan is to get a cheap flight to Berlin and then head to Prague, Krakow, Budapest, Vienna and Zagreb. Then a cheap flight back. For under 25’s there is a big discount on the price of the train ticket which is good. Just going to stay in hostels ect. Looking at doing it all in 3 weeks. Any must see places to visit? Any tips? Jack Posted 26 June, 2012 Share Posted 26 June, 2012 Sounds obvious, but careful with possessions on the overnight/long journeys when you sleep. When we went to Serbia, some friends of ours got the train down from Budapest and had a couple of bags pinched. Been to Prague - avoid the tourist areas when going on the p*ss. The price difference is huge. You'll pay about £7 for a beer in the main squares, and as little as £1.80-£2 in the less obvious places. We had a top weekend in Prague for a stag do, it's only a small place so you can see all the sights in a day, and Hot Peppers is the best strip club I've been to. Croatia is Beautiful, never been to Zagreb, but if you get the chance to travel around the country for a bit, head to the coast. The island of Pag is great for partying, and Split is a city worth visiting.

Frank's cousin Posted 27 June, 2012 Share Posted 27 June, 2012 Watch "Hostel" before you go. LOL... That will put him off! Went in 1987 - when you could still get Interail tickets that were anywhere in Europe for a month for about £90 - slept mostly on trains, met loads of Scandinavian ladies , great time.... was 18... perfect free summer of excess. View From The Top Posted 27 June, 2012 Share Posted 27 June, 2012 Similar to Frank I did it in the mid-80s as a young man and "met" plenty of Dutch & Danish girls in France around Biarritz & La Rochelle & plenty of Finnish & Swedish girls in Greece. A very happy, carefree & educational summer!
ben05 Posted 27 June, 2012 Author Share Posted 27 June, 2012 Cheers for all the advice guys! Ive been to Croatia once bu never to Zagreb so looking forward to it. Hoping to do the historical bits like the Brandberg Gates and Auschwitz. I have to get a overnight train from Krakow to Budapest so I will be sure to sleep on top of my bag! I did google the film “hostel” the first line was “The film explores the psychology of ‘Ragging” .... I think I will give that one a miss!

A 2 week ticket is around £150 now. A month is £250. So im trying to keep the whole trip under £500. £100 return flights and some cheap hostels! Nexstar Posted 27 June, 2012 Share Posted 27 June, 2012 Doesn't take long to look around Krakow, but from there you can easily get to Auschwitz and the Salt Mines are pretty good there too. Krakow is a very enjoyable night out, plenty of different bars etc. I highly recommend Club Frantic there. Leave yourself a good few days in Berlin, loads of stuff to see/do.
