Leyton Orient 2 Southampton 2, 2009-10.

Packed out away end, Saints on a run of 4 wins in a row. Despite dominating the game we found ourselves 2 nil down, but a late brace from Rickie Lambert secured a point. Great day out, really good atmosphere in the ground and a brilliant comeback.

I doubt many would agree but the 4.1 defeat away at Forest the season we were relegated from the CCC was great 4000 Saints singing non stop despite being already relegated top day out.

Wolves when we won 6 0 how unexpected was that Saga hat trick everything we hit went in Wolves singing were going 6 5 then changing mid song to were gonna win 7 6 funny as.

Bristol Rovers away Saints win 5 1 Morgan scored it was my mates birthday smashing nite out

Play off semi at Pride Park the whole away end went mental when Raza scored great turn out & noise from Saints fans

These are to name but a few loved away football the last 3 years supporting Saints has been ace

3-1 at Plymouth

3-2 at Millwall

2-3 at Derby

2-0 at Palace

Come to think of it, I've been spoilt by our away form over the past 18 months - I used to love ANY away win given how rare they used to be! Now, and thinking about last season in particular, "routine" is the word that springs to mind - we turn up, we win, we go home (and we make noise throughout).

I was going to include that in my list as well; despite the administration, the uncertainty, the horrendous season and the -10 staring us in the face for the following season (if we lasted that long), us fans were outstanding. I thought it was 3-1 though?

Forgot that one, cracking 90 mins spoilt by Huddersfield getting a late winner against Walsall (?) meaning playoffs were virtually out of reach

One of my favourites was Rochdale away. It got rained off, so we went to see Stoke v Brighton in the FA Cup. I hated Brighton quite a lot at that point so I got to see them looking terrible against a Prem team who completely outclassed them without really trying.

Bit worried about that now...

Also enjoyed Huddersfield on the opening day due to 10% real ale, random singing and getting a busker to play "OWTSGMI", and Hartlepool away in 2009/10 because I felt like a superdooperfan just for going, and the 6 hours of stair-rod torrential rain all the way back with me driving in the middle lane just to be able to see the motorway is the stuff of legends.

I suppose non-mathematical promotion at Plymouth was the best though. Marginally better than "arsing it up at Boro" a year later. :(

Yeovil 2009/10 - loads beers in the Arrow, sunshine and a late winner.

Hartlepool 2010/11 - midweek trek, decent pub and cracking chips n gravey.

Carlisle 2010/11 - rugby club, 3D boxing (Harrison v Haye), drunkenness, hangover and the sh*ttiest travelodge in England.

Millwall 2011/12 - Lambert penalties and Market Porter.

Plymouth 2010/11 - promotion

Walsall 2009/10 and 2010/11 decent social club.

Happy days!

Walsall, how didn't we score?

Southend in the pouring rain on a Friday night.

Hartlepool... Alan Carr, Alan Carr, Alan Carr

Derby play off semi

The 5-2 at Ipswich last season... Saints do a Brazil on one of the more fancied sides in the Lge.

Total capitulation at Hillsborough as Saints go down with a whimper and not a bang.

2-2 midweek at Norwich with goals from the Saga enigma.

Celebrating in the concorse at Midds as Pompey's relegation is confirmed.

Midweek at Brentford on the terraces, worldies from Lloyd James and Super KD.

Dagenham, just surreal watching Saints with KD, RL, AL, MS playing in what is 75% a non-league ground - felt like a cup tie.

That's a few of the more memorable ones, happy days (I couldn't get near tkts for any Brighton or B'muff games).

A few of the not so obvious ones.

Burnley - 2-3 Beautiful sunshine and sat on that cricket pavilion getting rat-arsed on cheap beer. Skacel scored a screamer.

Norwich - 0-1 Was a must win to hold onto the chance of getting in the playoffs. Again, beautiful sunny day, great atmosphere at the Compleat Angler an in the ground. Leon Best in the first half IIRC

QPR - 0-3 Big **** up, brace from BWP.

Leyton Orient 2-2 Pub crawled our way across London, found ourselves 2-0 down despite Orient only getting in our half twice and having 1 shot on target. Brilliant comeback.

Sheffield Wed 0-1 Lee Barnard with a decent finish. Just remember saints fan being awesome that day, and a good win after the slow start to the season.

Reading 1-1 Despite Reading being a sh*t away game, we had a really good **** up, and a mental goal celebration when De Ridder banged in the equaliser.

Millwall 2-3 Doesn't need explaining. Plus we had £25 on a Lambert hat trick at 25/1

Oh yes that Oldham 0 Saints 6 game. Freezing January midweek night, snow around, so low turnout no surprise. Six different scorers, all from open play too! Great atmosphere, will remember that one for ever + proud to have been there

You may well be right about the score I was compltley shot faced, I can't believe I left the 5 2 win at Portman Road off my list that is the best away perfomance from Saints I have ever seen at that game I always believed we would get promoted the fast 1 touch football blew me away a very good day to be a Saint

Southend on a Friday night was quality. Great night out afterwards, top weekend.

Ipswich away from the 2008/09 relegation season was also brilliant. Really thought we'd stay up after that one.

Worst aways-

Notts County League Cup 2006/07

Preston 5-1 and 3-1 midweek defeats

Colchester 2006/07

Swansea relegation season

Hartlepool 0-0 on a Tuesday night

Most games from the 2007/08 and 2005/06 seasons

Rotherham in the cup 2008/09

A few of the games at Swindon too

Destroying Bournemouth on their own patch whilst being sat in the home end behind the goal (thanks to a fellow poster) and laughing at how genuinely upset they were at us taking them apart. Saints everywhere that day, the load that got kicked out after the 2nd didn't go quietly either ;-)

Yoevil away was superb. Sun soaked terrace, last minute winner that kept us in promotion race (short lived admittedly) and top day out with the lads. What away days are all about.

Notts County midweek lost 2-0, followed by an away trip to Colchester lost 2-0 was two terrible displays in a few days. I went to Colchester as I thought there was no way we would put in 2 terrible displays in a row..... how wrong can one be?

Its got to be that millwall game away last season for me

just that feeling with 5 mins to go that we were going to lose this game 2-1 but then to have a penalty going our way made me feel good that we got a draw out of this game, then to get a second and go on to win 3-2 was just the icing on the cake for me with all the saints fan singing and the millwall fans going mental and throwing bottles and stones as we were walking back to the station was just brilliant!

Written a new blog on my top 15 away games of the FL era (2005-2012). I know most people have their minds well and truly on the PL at the moment, but sometimes it's good to look back every now and again too. Give it a read :) http://www.thesaintshub.com/top15awaygames.html

7th Reading 2-1 (22nd November 2008- Championship)

With Reading pushing for an automatic promotion place and Saints struggling towards the bottom of the table it looked as if there could be only one winner when the team's clashed at The Madjeski Stadium. This is the Championship though, where there's no such thing as an easy game. Jan Poortvliet's charges exuded a refreshing amount of confidence in the early stages and took a deserved lead on 14 minutes through Bradley Wright-Phillips. The same player then scored again on 49 minutes, giving Saints an improbable 2-0 lead. Reading stormed forward, and when Jimmy Kebe pulled one back on 57 minutes it looked as if a turnaround was inevitable. Royals fans chanted "We're going to score in a minute" with most Saints fans believing they almost certainly would. A heart stopping 30 minutes followed, but for all the intense pressure Reading couldn't find that second goal and Saints held on for a famous win.

I was at this one. Reading did actually score a second that was given offside. After looking at the reply I remember it looked the right decision but at the time in the ground it seemed like we were very lucky. This was probably one of our best performance under the dutch disasters. I remember thinking afterwards that perhaps we would be alright after all. How wrong was I!?

Great subject, scheduled my trips home to take in as many away days as possible. Never saw Saints lose or even draw on the road in the last four (yes four) seasons. Wins at Derby, Ipswich, Southend, Oldham, Bristol, Yeovil, Bournemouth, Plymouth, Brentford, Barnsley and Palace....Just loved Brentford, Southend (Fri), Plymouth and even Palace!!

Two great wins at Portman Road....

BTW...did see us lose at home to Brum, Reading and draw with Sheff Utd and those skatey boy matelot types. Yay 'Road Trip!!'

Leeds this season was class, the relief in the away end when the final whilstle went. Must have been the longest OWTS too!

Orient '11, everyone beered up, in the sun, and a win pretty much securing promotion. I was in the home end for the one before when we came back from 2 down.

Last minute winner at Carlisle was one to remember.

As for worst.

Rochdale, awful traffic the whole way up, got in late and were 2-0 down by half time.

Hartlepool second time round was sh*te too.

Doncaster this season was pretty bad too.

Dagenham & Redbridge for me. A great day out and really surreal playing a league game in a ground like that. You couldn't help the laugh at the old guy taking 50p's off us and putting them in a plastic cup so we could access the mixed supporters club. The Dagenham fans were great as well. They loved the fact they were playing a team like Saints in a league tie. Will never forget it and despite the fact we're now 'back in the big time' I'll always look back at those times with much fondness.

Afterwards at the station Saints fans on platform 2 singing 'going down going down going down' to DR fans on platform 1. They reply with 'so are we, so are we, so are we'.

Up at Stoke, think it was the first season we were down, won 2-1 (only shot if i remember for them) took them apart in every department, it was a "sit where you like" in the away end AND won a couple of quid on the correct first goal between 10 -21 mins

Also a good one but with the wrong result was an Ipswich away we lost 2-1 but dominated the game they had a dodgy penalty and when we were walking out the ground I said to one of the lads with us to watch out for his undone shoe lace, to which an Ipswich wag said its OK if you trip over it the ref will give us a penalty, had to laugh
