Crisp Posted 25 June, 2012 Share Posted 25 June, 2012 No thanks i wont be paying £50 to watch Saints play Arsenal reserves and the dregs of club 19 at St Mary's. Or some unknown waddle around the pitch with a gawdy lighter aloft waving to banks of empty seats. shame the club are trying to cash in on the olympic flame being in the city. shame would have have been good to see a large crowd to what is suppose to be a memorial to the man who rescued this club and not a pay day. That's what annoys me about it. Seems quite cynical of them to cash in, when this could have been a brilliant ocassion celebrating Markus Liebherr and the return to the premiership. It will be a bit embarassing if there's only 5,000-odd people there.
The Kraken Posted 25 June, 2012 Share Posted 25 June, 2012 I hope no one turns up so they give it a rethink for next year. Doubtful. 7,000 turned up for the memorial Cup last year. Which (given we once got over 30K for the former Ted Bates trophy) suggests that something was pretty awry with either the pricing or the format. Yet this year we have the same format, and a 50% price rise, so it doesn't seem as if there have been any lessons learnt.

Plenty of Saints will get in at the concession rate which ain't too bad really, plus those with kids that get in free will be tempted. Could see 3k from each away team and 7k Saints easily. Could see 3k from each away team and 7k Saints easily. Thinking about it, you're probably right. Last year we would surely have seen very few away fans. This year we have two British teams with a large fan base. The only prohibitive factor I can see is the cost; but a family day out at £50 for two adults and two under 11s is relatively resonable. Not so sure about the appeal of the full adult price though, time will tell.

Wurzel Posted 25 June, 2012 Share Posted 25 June, 2012 With 3 British clubs how will they segregate this.? Just a one off ticket price makes me think there's no choice where you sit. Reduced capacity allocated something like Rangers/Northam Arsenal/Chapel Saints/Itchen&Kingsland with 4 empty corners .. Might have filled it at £15, can't see more than 5K at that price

Golden Balls Posted 25 June, 2012 Share Posted 25 June, 2012 IMO... Tom & Gerry Posted 25 June, 2012 Share Posted 25 June, 2012 Back in the day when a spase was a spade and the Premier league was league one they used to call these matches what they are - Public Practice Matches and you could get in for a couple of bob. £25 quid to see Saints practice, it isn't even funny. hutch Posted 25 June, 2012 Share Posted 25 June, 2012 could this be the first game for the newco? Or the last? From the BBC this afternoon: Rangers is now set to be wound up by HMRC's preferred liquidators BDO. Meanwhile, a newco Rangers looks set to have its application to become an SPL club rejected as a number of member clubs have already indicated they will refuse to back the move. Stu Man Do Posted 25 June, 2012 Share Posted 25 June, 2012 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18577192 What with Rangers now having 5 votes against them and therefore not being in next years SPL how Saints can justify 25 quid a ticket when last year there were 2 decent european sides there for less is beyond me. Shame really as I quite enjoyed the format last year think I'll just go to the Ajax and Udinese games instead now as I can't see them being the same price. Poor pricing for a game we should be able to pack out in memory of Markus.

Turkish Posted 25 June, 2012 Share Posted 25 June, 2012 (edited) It's great value. The opportunity to see our new signings. The chance to see the new kit. The chance to be back at St Marys a premier league ground and just to feel part of the momentum and part of the Southampton way. We'll play against two clubs like Arsenal and Rangers, steeped in history and tradition and we are playing them as their equal. Also the opportunity to give honour to the man who, along with Nicola Cortese, saved us. £25 is a bargain for a day like that IMO and i for one wont be missing it for the world, all true Saints fans will be there and feel the same and would be happy our chairman has given such a flexible pricing model on this to makesure the tournement is accessable to everyone. When did you start working for the marketing dept. Because all anyone else sees is a hugely overpriced kickabout against a team of reserves and a team that'll be lucky not to be in the Scottish 3rd Division by kick off. Many on here were quick to ask where were the missing fans in the last few years out of the prem Now, they are saying £25 is too much considering.... The opposition?? Does that not work when in league 1 too? The difference being that those were league matches, even in the third division, where support helped the team to get meaningful results. This on the other hand is a friendly match with nothing more riding it on it than bragging rights over Arsenal reserves, and whatever turns up from a liquidated Rangers. The match costs substantially more for arguably lesser teams than we played last season. That I was happy to have a ST to watch us in the third division and yet I won't go to this match at these prices says enough, if there is a broad tranche of others with the same opinion. I don't disagree its too much for a standard adult ticket. £17 last year was too much for the same type of competition and we only got 7,000 supporters through the door. That said, the family price isn't too bad (£50 for 2 adults and 2 kids under 11) for a whole afternoon. Also it would be interesting to compare like for like pre-season fixtures. I know that the Man City v Arsenal friendly being played in Beijing is going for £61 per ticket.
