Saints all the way.

I mean I'm dissappointed about losing on penalties (who wouldn't be) but already I'm up for the challenge of next season.

Throughout the Euro's I have not once felt the pressure of last season at all. Even in penalties. Suppose its the individuality of supporting your own team.

Fair play to Roy though he is gonna make England a respectable side again unlike the last couple donkeys in charge.

Anyone else feel the same?

Summed up Young's tournament. Poor throughout and really don't know why Chambo or Theo didn't get more of a chance ahead of him and Milner but I suppose they're both key to Roy's formation & tactics.

On the plus side, cannot wait now for the new PREMIER LEAGUE season!! Wont properly sink in for real until I get the shirt this coming weekend with the Prem badges on it!!

Bring it on!

I actually half-hoped Young would miss as he ran up to take his penalty. And I used to follow England home and away 10 years or so ago.

Shame on you!

However I am only interested in Saints and probably always will be until we have a regular in the starting line up.

Add to this the ST arriving on friday and the transfer window days from picking up I cant wait till Man City.

This is the first England squad I have felt much like supporting for years, simply because the manager seemed like a good guy and the attitude seemed right.

Agree, but I'd still rather see Saints win a throw in than England win a tournament.

 Going a bit far there mate, England actually winning something would be pretty special - only beatable by Saints winning the FA Cup or the like.

The sh*te thing is that after the success Saints have had these past 2 years, we're not used to the disappointment England have just provided. Absolutely gutted.

And to answer the threads overall point - club before country, every time. Doesn't mean the success of the club tempers the failure of the country, though.

But what do you mean by club before country? It's not like they will ever be playing each other. Why not just wish for both to win whenever they play? It's not really a choice IMO.

What a pathetic response. You do understand that supporting your nation and your club can be done at the same time with no conflict of interest right?

So can liking doritos cool original and doritos flamin hot, one is often still preferred though (flamin hot in my case). Is this a pathetic response?

I mean that I would be more passionate about a club success than I would a country success.

Pretty much exactly what you said. Can't wait for pre-season to get going now.

Losing to Derby on penalties in the play-offs will always hurt 10x more than any inevitable England failure.

100% agree , clothes still wet when got home at 4 am

I make no bones about being an Saints fan first and an England fan a distant second. Patriotic, sure, but outside of tournaments I have the 'Meh' factor with regards to England. I follow England because I have to, I follow Saints because I LOVE to.

Club before country every day of the week.

This is the first tournament where I honestly did not feel that crippling dissappointment when England went out.

In the 2010 World Cup it was terrible because I was hoping England would cheer me up as we were currently in League 1, obviously we all know they didn't and got demolished my Germany.

But this year, the HUGE achievement of Saints getting to the Premier League is far and away better than England winning the tournament/getting to the semi's so I honestly didn't feel that crushing dissappointment like I usually feel when England go out of major tournaments. I felt dissappointed don't get me wrong but it was far more 'oh well that's over with' rather than in 2010 'WHAT THE F**K ARE YOU DOING ENGLAND YOU USELESS PILES OF S**T' etc.

I think alot of fans all over the country prefer their club over country. I haven't really been that bothered how England do since 98. Too many over paid players with big egos and managers who dont care enough and have been over paid. Its difficult to care about a team of players like that. That's why its been nice supporting Saints these pass few seasons, not a lot of cocky overpaid egos.

It's fine if you support England just as much as Saints, but you know what the OP is asking. He's asking if this isn't the case for you, then who do you care about most, club or country.

And I think for the vast majority of people, certainly on here at least, success for your club would mean a hell of a lot more than success for your country.

I very much wanted England to win last night, but I'm completely over it now. If that was Saints in a cup final, I'd be gutted for months.

Watching the match last night, there was the usual dreadful inevitability about it. As time went by and it became ever more likely when Italy spurned chance after chance and we hardly threatened their goal at all, that we would suffer the torment of penalties. Even when they had their first miss, I just knew that one of our players would also miss. I even anticipated that it would be Ashley Cole when he stepped up for it. And I also knew in my bones that Ashley Cole would also miss. The result wasn't overly disappointing for me, because I expected that we would lose before we even kicked off.

But as Lineker said, the bright side was that we hadn't progressed further only to lose to the Germans once more.

Also on the bright side, with luck, when the World Cup comes around, Hodgson will have got rid of the old guard and their egos and brought through some of the promising youngsters.

In reply to the thread, Club over Country every time.

It's the hope that gets you.

Prior to the tournament everyone was content to have no hope what so ever.

We could just sit back and enjoy watching a feast of football.

But the silly buggers went and avoided humiliation against France, then fluked two wins against the Ukrainians and Swedes.

hence the media started to build them up.. hence the hope.

Although our EPL is the strongest and most competitive league in the world, so we are told, our national team are no longer a world force, nor even in the top 5 in Europe.

Why is that ?? Possibly because every other nations players, save Germany, have prospered by our Premier league, and our clubs facilities at the expense of our own prospects..

Time we drew up the drawbridge and put much stronger rules in place that prevented some of our English clubs working against the national interests by employing more foreign imports..

Recently, what with all the hype how England were one of the favourites to win this and that, I have shied away from country. I found the arrogance cringe worthy and unattractive. Now that we have a manager who to me seems more interested in the success of the team than personal success (I know the two go hand in hand), there is a humility about England that is much more appealing. I enjoyed watching our efforts and was not too upset about being knocked out last night. At least it means we won't have to endure being walloped by the Germans.

As an aside, does anyone think that all the teams (except for the Germans) are pretty poor?

But to me, it is club first. Always has been. If I am over seas, I will always try and get news of Saints. If I can't get live coverage, then updates. If no updates, the score by hook or crook. With England, I am happy to wait until I get back to civilisation to get the score.

Im glad Young screwed it up after what he did to Derry at Old trafford. He did the same to that poor Italian RB to get him booked, he jumped up in the air screaming without being touched and now he misses the semi.

I cant wait for the abuse the next time we play him.

50/50 for me. Proud Sotonian and Englishman.

I love football and would love the teams that represent my City & Country to be successful. Worked with loads of self important Man U/ Scouse fans over the years that love to point out their country means nothing to them. I hope we never go down this route.

Totally agree. I support Saints and England but the Derby match hurt much more.

OK, I was at Pride Park but not in the Ukraine!

couldnt understand this question when I was younger, both were equally important.

Thanks to the "Golden" Generation, I couldnt give a monkey's arse about England any more. I am so totally "meh" this morning about our exit from Euro 2012.

Me neither. Not surprised, not bothered about going out. Means that the semis are more watchable.

Sometimes I wish you'd be "totally meh" with Saints ;)
