Leicestersaint Posted 24 June, 2012 Share Posted 24 June, 2012 I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere on the forum - Andrew Surman has signed a new contract keeping him at Norwich until 2015. I would have liked to see him coming back to us as i think he is a neat and talented PL player who has the potential to develop further. He has family in Southampton and is a good Saints fan. I guess he won't be coming back to us now.

Crazy Diamond Posted 24 June, 2012 Share Posted 24 June, 2012 Don't really know what the big deal is about Surman. Yes, he came through the academy and was a decent player, but is he really someone to get misty eyed over? I fear it's another case of Saints fan = must have him, must be a good player. I'd also like to think that he might not even get in our side anyway.

Hopkins Posted 24 June, 2012 Share Posted 24 June, 2012 I like him. Like you said he's neat and tidy. Problem is, we have that in Cork and Morgan. I'd rather them than Surman, which is what gives me the confidence that our midfield is more than capable of holding its own in this league. Saint J 77 Posted 24 June, 2012 Share Posted 24 June, 2012 Surman for me will always be remembered as the player who keep us in business. When he left for 1 million to Wolves he helped to keep the club ticking over until the eventual take over and for that I am grateful. I am not sure if he really wanted to go at the time. Maybe thats why his time at Wolves didn't work out for him. I am glad to see he has done well at Norwich though. I think that is the best place for him and where he should stay for now. I'd also like to think that he might not even get in our side anyway. He was great in the 2006/07 season Poor in 2007/08, so much so that he was dropped for Mario Licka. He only came back into the side when others go injured Hit and miss during 2008/09, but largely disappointing. Fair play to him he's done very well at Norwich. Like you said wouldn't get near our team now though.
sambosa75 Posted 24 June, 2012 Share Posted 24 June, 2012 Decent player. Think Morgan has the potential to develop in to a better player and I wouldn't want them partnering eachother as they are too similar. Good player though and a fan. Seen him up at Staplewood a few times since he's left, watching the reserves etc... Obviously still loves the club.
manji Posted 24 June, 2012 Share Posted 24 June, 2012 As he is a Saints fan I think we should go and offer Norwich 7m and get him back.

Kingsland Red Posted 24 June, 2012 Share Posted 24 June, 2012 We need a float of a few million to ensure all ex-Academy players and Saints fans playing in the Premiership; ex loan players; and any Europeans inspired by MLT could sign for the club. krissyboy31 Posted 24 June, 2012 Share Posted 24 June, 2012 he was one of our only decent players during the Dutch experiment, but in truth he is no better than we have now Depends who you are comparing him to. Morgan? Probably not; Cork and Chappers? Probably on a par with them; Hammond? Definitely!
Micky Posted 24 June, 2012 Share Posted 24 June, 2012 Personally I wouldn't want any player who signs a new contract and then heads off down the pub to celebrate - distinct lack of sporting professionalism methinks.

hedge ender Posted 25 June, 2012 Share Posted 25 June, 2012 Was with him last week in Cyprus, he was attending a wedding there. Got to speak with him in the pool, he loves Saints and would want to come back some day, but settled now. Nice lad.

I haven't-except on TV- but I would be surprised if he hasn't come on a lot from his experience of the last 3 years including one in the premiership..
