She told the BBC: "I'm so upset. It's a complete disaster. On the island it has been a nightmare. There is no police, no diversion signs, nothing. "Now we're about two miles away on a country lane and we have moved one mile in the last four hours."
Um Bongo Posted 22 June, 2012 Share Posted 22 June, 2012 What do you expect on a tiny island with not many roads? It doesn't look like it's been organised very well, the weather has been ****e for the past few weeks, the organisers should have made plans before - There won't be any diversion signs because there is nowhere to divert people to!!! trousers Posted 22 June, 2012 Share Posted 22 June, 2012 I've been following the shenanegins (sp?) unfold on their Facebook page for the last 24 hours: https://www.facebook.com/iwfestival Some unhappy bunnies on there but quite amusing for the impartial observer.... sfcuk fan Posted 22 June, 2012 Share Posted 22 June, 2012 Took me hours to get home from work last night ( normally a 10 minute drive ). I left at 7 this morning to go in but hit the traffic half mile up the road so turned round and came back. Day off for me I think ! The roads really are terrible over here at the moment, I feel for anyone thats been stuck in it all night !!!
dubai_phil Posted 22 June, 2012 Author Share Posted 22 June, 2012 FWIW my mate has to drive one of the big names. If he's gonna be trapped in his wagon with him for hours hope he remembered to get a CD for him to sign for me while they're waiting
Verbal Posted 22 June, 2012 Share Posted 22 June, 2012 Still, everyone's in for a treat with Tom Petty headlining. Saw him at the Albert Hall on Monday - an absolutely brilliant concert.
Golden Balls Posted 22 June, 2012 Share Posted 22 June, 2012 First time since 2006 that I haven't gone. Thank god! Apart from the Sunday last year, it's never rained when I've been. Usually get a nice sun burn
The Cat Posted 22 June, 2012 Share Posted 22 June, 2012 I guess they've been lucky this hasn't happened before. Over 50000 people descending on a place that could clearly never cope if it rained significantly, forcing families to sleep in their car and defacate by the roadside like feral dogs is just bang out of order. I've never been and wouldn't go either as I much prefer smaller festivals where it matters less if it turns into a mudbath. Some of the pictures of the site today look grim. Jack Cork is there, he was sending tweets about it earlier.
swannymere Posted 22 June, 2012 Share Posted 22 June, 2012 It's just stupid, they should be forced to park on the mainland and the festival should put on buses.

Hatch Posted 22 June, 2012 Share Posted 22 June, 2012 This is what happens when you get lots of modern day equipment like cars going to places like the IOW.

Mind you, gave EoA some tips on schmoozing last night. Left him in the company of some blonde in the bar around 2am. I'm sure he'll be full of it later today (so to speak) if he ever wakes up

georgeweahscousin Posted 23 June, 2012 Share Posted 23 June, 2012 It's been an absolute nightmare. My mate's wife went to pick his daughter up from school at 14:30 on Thursday and got home at 05:30 on Wednesday. It has been a massive shambles. Usually as a resident I try and get a ticket, and not let the disruption bother me, but the lineup is so dreadful this year I didn't bother, so am letting it bother me. Local businesses have undoubtedly been effected. In better news, you can pick up a wristband for about a tenner at the ferry terminals now, as so many people have binned it off and are heading home!
