Steven Davis - Signs 3 Year Deal

Green contests this and has written to all clubs in England warning that the players are in breach of contract.

PFA Scotland say Green is deliberately misrepresenting the contract situation, with union chairman Tony Higgins last week saying: "I haven't spoken to a single employment or sports solicitor who agrees with Mr Green's interpretation of the law."

I'm no expert on employment law, but surely the players' contracts were with oldco, which has been liquidated, therefore I would assume that their contracts are void and no longer enforceable.

I am wondering if this is just about the SFA not actually knowing how to process the request, seeing as the club that holds the current registrations no longer exists. Fingers crossed its just a paperwork issue, rather than them actually refusing to do it.

I would be extremely surprised if Saints, Norwich, Stoke, Everton and FC Sion had not sought legal advice prior to pressing ahead with these signings.

These clubs would have to be very confident about winning any potential legal dispute, otherwise the moves make little sense.

For what it's worth, I don't see how Green has a case, because surely the players' contracts were with the soon-to-be liquidated Rangers and not the Newco?

This.

The SFA have pretty much asked a different club then the one that held the registration for Davis to give clearance.

The (slightly exaggerated) equivalent would be asking Southampton to give clearance on the transfer for a Pompey player....

This signing doesn't excite me at all, just another wanabee journeyman to clutter up the wage bill. We need world class young talent not these weary old has-been's or never quite were's! Let's face it Northern Ireland are not excatly challenging for European & World Cup places. So how doe s aguy like this deal with Nasri, Villa, van Persie and their ilk.

Sorry Nicola but you'll need to set your sights a darn sight higher than this

He is 27 years old, captained his country and Glasgow Rangers and played 111 games for English Premier League sides (far more than any other current Saints player) as a regular for both Aston Villa and Fulham.

Yet you describe him as a "weary old hasbeen/never quite were/wanabee journeyman".

Bizarre as ever Charlie!

Steven Davis will be a key first team player and I think given his background there is a good chance he will become Southampton's captain.

But what about Arsenal's signings Charlie?

I don't understand why people even respond to Charlie Wayman.

HE IS A TROLL!

Unbelievable. On any other forum trolls like that are sniffed out and put on ignore lists and/or ignored altogether. It's ridiculous how many people on here actually respond to them, and him in particular.

Learn your lesson.

When it says the SFA have contacted Rangers in order for the transfer to go through, who exactly have they contacted? old rangers who the contract was with? because surely they dont exists any more? or Rangers NewCo or whatever they are calling themselves

I would have thought the SFA have just rejected the request as they don't want to be held accountable, stuck in the middle...should Green want to start suing people...this way they can defer to FIFA.....it'll get sorted, will just take a while...

Exactly. Would be a good idea for a sainstweb slush fund if the mods announced how much money it would take to ban him...

I prefer to think of him as some old gent living deep in the heart of the New Forest who has probably come to a computer as the original silver surfer. He likes the simple things in life and cannot get his head around anything more than the basics of football....at a push.

He thinks his musings on signings, style of play, the manager and Cortese are both refreshingly different and ground breaking.

He knows what he wants, he knows what he likes.....he just hasnt got a ****ing clue about real life :-)

More quality content from our friends North of the border.

Unsurprisingly, they think the complete opposite of us. The oldco hasn't yet been wound up, apparently. Some are hoping that we'll end up having to pay money to the oldco - not that it'll benefit the newco Rangers in any way.

This is why I was asking earlier if oldco had actually been wound up yet. I guess it could be argued that they are still contracted to oldco until the day that company is officially liquidated?

Embarrassed how we're knocking Glasgow Rangers, of all the clubs in the UK, for a couple of million quid.

Admittedly a different scenario, but lets not forget the Theo Walcott deal with Arsenal. They could have stiffed us big time.

We should pay some compensation, lets show a bit of class.

To the new club then. You know what I mean.

I fully understand the legal situation. That is not what I'm on about.

Show some class. Don't pick over the carcass of a once great club at a time when all are gunning for them.

Or act like 2 bob tight c u n t s who can't afford a Premier League quality cm under normal circumstances.

That's our choice.

What a lovely world we live in. Goodnight.

Try putting your argument to the other scottich clubs Rangers have cheated. Clubs that may have made Champions League spots and finals of the domestic cup competitions.

Not to mention the Scottish tax payer.

As been said before - Pompey Jocks.

No sympathy from me!

Got to disagree with this. Unlike the pompey situation (sheer incompetence) the Rangers situation always includes deliberate allegations of specific tax FRAUD, duplicate employment contracts etc. They may well have been a "great club" once but they get no sympathy for cheating DELIBERATELY. We laugh at pompey, we hold Rangers in contempt

Giving money to a club for players that they acquired directly or indirectly via tax evasion would be tantamount to condoning and/or rewarding said illegal practices.

It could therefore be argued that we ARE taking the moral high ground by not giving them money for the player.

If a burglar stole a TV and went to prison for his crime, do you think it would be morally correct to offer to take the TV off his hands for a few quid?

I know my analogy breaks down somewhat at this point as the ultimate moral solution to this ethical dilemma would be to return the TV / footballer to the person / club that previously owned it / them, but offering money for 'stolen goods' is arguably the least acceptable of the options available.
