Steven Davis - Signs 3 Year Deal

Delighted that this signing of Davis has gone thru and laughing at all the ITK Knobs who said it was a non starter. Where signings under Cortese are concerned there are few ITK but dozens on here trying to make out they have a finger on the pulse. More likely they have their arm stuffed up their own backsides. :)

Absolute crap. So far we have signed two players (maybe three with Buttner) and every single one was known about weeks ago.

You know what I mean. I just feel for Gers fans who are going through all this crap and things like this just rub salt into the wounds.
What's there to feel for Rangers? For years they have rubbed salt into every club that got into financial difficulty, even voting several out of the League. They're so popular that no other clubs what to do them any favors now. Justice is being seen to be done, just a pity those folk down the road are getting away with blue murder.

Well, no not exactly. They were all rumoured to be targets and with all 3 the trail had gone pretty dead and they were going elsewhere until, Bob's your Uncle, deal done!

It was in the Sun weeks ago. At the top of this thread.

You're kidding yourself if you think there are going to be many out-of-the-blue signings anyway.

And quite frankly why do we want that? There are many bemusing things about the Cult Of Cortese but one of the weirdest is this feeling of "Oh isn't it brilliant no one knew about this signing until the official announcement at half ten at night on the club website. How fantastic that no one had any idea. This is the greatest way to run a football club I have ever known"

What is good about that?

Let's have some rumours, let's have some speculation, lets have some bloody interest. I don't want news about my football club to arrive entirely through sanitised spin heavy corporate guff official press releases.

I know that is MLG's dreamworld but I think most normal humans are developed enough to deserve better than that.

Was on 28k a week according to this: http://www.football365.com/f365-says/7868638/Rangers-Loss-Is-Premier-League-s-Gain...

We must have offered him a pretty decent salary, especially if the rumoured Liverpool interest is true!

Pretty sure all the Rangers players took a pay cut. Imagine his wages will be be on a par with our top earners with a big sign on fee in lieu of not have to pay McPompey anything.

Have Rangers got any keepers worth taking on?

In a side note I see Richard Wright is available as he's quit Preston after a week as he's homesick........

Allan McGregor, current Scottish no 1 (cue the endless jokes about Scottish keepers) is very good, however not to sure about his attitude - he was one of the those involved when Barry Ferguson got stripped of the Scottish Captainancy, and by all accounts he trys to be a bit of a lad. That said, a move out of Glasgow would probably be a decent move for him, the Old Firm are in the proverbial goldfish bowl.

Reading what the rangers fans think of him, ie ****e player, turncoat, ****ing useless ****** etc etc, can only mean one thing, He will be one hell of a player!!!

Sadly way of the world when a team is hardup, sharks circle and feed off them, this time we are one of the sharks and not the floundering fish! Rangers fans have bigger worries than a player coming to us

Great signing, especially on a free. Now all we need (presuming Buttner is all but complete) is a GK, right sided midfielder, centre back and a right back who could ideally fill in at centre back when necessary. Not much to ask ;)

Erm no he was pointing out the retarded world of some posters who want to believe that saints signings are complete surprises when in actuality that is very rarely the case.

It's a very strange world with some of our fans.

I can remember seeing on multiple occasions a section of supporters saying they didn't want Davis. The second he signs most of them change their tune. On top of that there are those who say that it's all ******** and we're never going to sign him, you're a fool to believe it.

Even the most far fetched of rumours have some basis in truth. Just because a move doesn't happen, it doesn't mean it was never going to. Andy Carroll was linked with Spurs a lot, it never happened. There was genuine interest though.

Of course, the waters have been muddied somewhat with agents and people pretending to be agents...

Not arguing about anything. Just laughing at people making out a) Saints can magically do things in secret and b) this is in any way a desirable thing. And, of course people pretending this signing was done in our magical secret way when it wasn't.

In recent weeks people on here have been obsessing about "the Southampton way of doing things" so I think you should use your hilarious Star Trek picture on them.

Very similar to what celtic fans said about Jos

Its nothing like what Celtic fans said about Jos. They just said he was rubbish.

These Rangers fans are saying they hate SD and he's a judas/rat/scum etc.

This.

Is he better than Morgan and Cork ?

I think the fact he has played at this level makes him better than M and C at this point. He probably has less scope to get better than those two but I think we need some genuine top level experience in the team now. Good signing IMO.

Are they all stupid? You'd think they would have known their (ex) captain's name is Davis and not Davies?!

They really do rate themselves don't they? They are a championship standard side who up until recently have been playing in a league which is a similar standard to an English pub team league. They are being relegated to a league no better than the Tyro league and wonder why their players are leaving?! Jeez! The only thing decent about them is the number of fans they have and their stadium!

A good player from a crap league who didn't cut it in the premier league last time. I am not sure he is the second coming like most of you lot but at least he was cheap......

So ignoring the fact he played for two Premier League clubs, was wanted by Manchester United, and only left England so he could join his boyhood club where he contested a UEFA Cup final, he couldn't cut it. Yes that sounds like the average informed opinion on here.

Okay, it is only the sun and not a single quote but they're reporting we'll make him our higher earner and also Anders Svensson wants to come back.

“@SunSouthampton: Southampton ready to table an interesting offer for Steve Davis http://t.co/ukXnRM2a #SaintsFC”

Don't know a lot about Davis. Svensson would go against what we're doing so can't see that happening.

Ignoring the Svensson talk, which they obviously lifted from the light hearted comment he made after the Euros, and we don't know about the wages but the Sun was actually right about Davis???
