Steven Davis - Signs 3 Year Deal

Golden Balls

Well, that's a relief, then! A great signing imo as he has plenty of experience and some notable success already. Now for two goalkeepers, a right back, central defender and a winger who can cross the ball as well as beat Bolt over 50 metres.

How do you know it's a free?

He refused to sign with the Rangers new co and walked away.

Even if we had a signing on fee to pay to the player (which seems to be standard), no fee will have been paid to his old club.

That's a bit underhand. I guess it's the way of the world, but I feel for Rangers - a club I have a lot of admiration for.

Why is it "underhand"? The Rangers he was contracted to n longer legally exist, so he wasn't under any obligation to sign for the new company which may end up in Scottish tier 4.

Get used to it for Rangers. Naismith has gone to Everton, they'll very soon lose even more of their players for no fee.

Nothing underhand. As per employment law when Rangers were liquidated he became a free agent.

You know what I mean. I just feel for Gers fans who are going through all this crap and things like this just rub salt into the wounds.

That nipper, IIRC, hadn't turned down a Newco contract as this lad had so, & I'm most likely wrong, they are similar but not the same.

Not according to this article.

Although I can't work out why there was a fee, even if it is in the guise of a sell-on clause. Maybe just an act of courtesy by Cov?

so, neither was Fleck when he signed for Cov during the week. There was still a fee agreed. Thought you'd know that.

Green stated in the media that he would take legal action against players that sign for other clubs. He doesn't have a leg to stand on legally. Coventry have huge money issues of their own and their owners were so scared of the possibility of legal action they came to an agreement with Rangers. There really was no need, I very much doubt Everton and Saints have done the same as SISU at Coventry. Coventry merely covering their backs, Saints and Everton won't be worried, legal action won't happen, Davis, Naismith etc are free to sign for whoever they want.

says that he had objected to transferring contract from old to new company.

Makes sense.

Maybe its because he's 21 so a development fee is due.

I considered that at first; but the development fee would be due to the oldco, who no longer exist. And this is an agreement with Rangers to pay a percentage of any sell on fee, not a transfer fee or development fee. I reckon MLG has it about right.

Sounds like a good signing, although I can't say I've seen him play myself. You don't become Rangers and NI captain by being rubbish, he's a good age and on a free.

Have seen quite a few WBA fans on twitter moaning that they've missed a trick here.

Now, a GK and a CB and a right-winger and we are set...

the fact remains, as Dune says, how do you know for sure? You don't know, for certain. That said, I agree, I doubt we will have.
