krissyboy31 Posted 21 July, 2012 Share Posted 21 July, 2012 £800k just to get the job done? I don't think so. There must be another reason he's paid the money. Maybe took some advice on what the compo would have been if FIFA had ruled in Rangers newco's favour (£1m+) and decided it was a small price to pay. Afterall, he has already signed a contract with us and we are already paying him.

david in sweden Posted 21 July, 2012 Share Posted 21 July, 2012 naturally..... Rangers' new owners are a bit miffed about having to run a club in the Scottish 3rd division, and disregarding the legalities of contracts with the old club and newco.......this may have dragged on and left a sour taste for weeks to come. BUT we need a team (and in this case -a player ) who know officially who he has a legal contract with... and he can concentrate on his new task. If indeed SFC has made an offer to settle the matter ...then all the better. With all the millions we have / and will continue to spend / on our "new look " squad...it's a small price to pay for harmony and peace of mind. Good call Nicola ! Graffito Posted 21 July, 2012 Share Posted 21 July, 2012 Why the extra year on his contract? Good question. I assume it's something the club wanted from the player which it got in return for resolving uncertainty of Davis' situation.
krissyboy31 Posted 21 July, 2012 Share Posted 21 July, 2012 Why the extra year on his contract? Is there a limit to what can be offered on a "free" signing? Or could it be that because Davis's signing on fee has effectively now gone to Rangers, he has been given an extra year to compensate?

I'd go along with this, R. NC is a typical European businessman (compared to the exploitative rip-off mentality of British and American businesses), dont buy what you cant afford, and carrying on his late bosses phillosophy of fair business activity. He might have got Davis cheaper after a protracted legal action which might have costs involved, but he has acted swiftly to make sure both sides are happy. Nice one (though Everton et al. might not be too chuffed at the precidence he has set for their players...)

CityRanger Posted 21 July, 2012 Share Posted 21 July, 2012 Embarrassed how we're knocking Glasgow Rangers, of all the clubs in the UK, for a couple of million quid. Saint-Armstrong Posted 21 July, 2012 Share Posted 21 July, 2012 Rangers' fans take on it: http://forum.rangersmedia.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=232322 Couple of quotes: "Well done Green and Southampton for agreeing a fee, but Davis is still a traitor for jumping ship to see us get nothing. " "Ps who the **** are Southampton...??..A team with the global reach of the English Channel" "I'm happy about this, Southampton seem like a proper club to me, they do a lot of business the right way concerning transfers." "I think its credit to Southanpton here for morally doing the right thing, even tho 800k is still theft for Davis." "As for the Davis deciding to go to a '****e' club (personally have a hell of a lot of time for Southampton) purely to get rangers a 'wedge' - that's utterly unsubstantiated fantasy." "Oh dear Steven, if you had done this the right way you would have found that the club wasn't very hard to deal with. Even though your new club have finally found common sense, you will always remain a traitor, who shafted the club that rescued you from Fulham reserves." Could really work to our benefit in the long run.Sorry Art, but cannot see why it would benefit our youngsters to play in the Scottish 3rd Division, we may as well loan them to Sholing, Totton or Salisbury. I assume that part of the deal was to reduce Davis' pay to allow us to pay compensation (not saying the whole800k, but at least a part of it), hence the addition of a 4th year to his contract to compensate. Seems like a bit of common all round. At least what we pay Rangers will presumably go to some of the creditors of the old club.

Saints may also have a clause preventing us from paying twice. For English transfers the money is paid to the FA, who then deal with any sell-on clauses etc. Money does not change hands directly between 2 clubs. Not sure if there is equivalent for "international" transfers as in this case.

pingwing Posted 25 July, 2012 Share Posted 25 July, 2012 It appears we still don't have his registration as the Rangers mess hasn't been cleared up (as the SFA are so inept they haven't sorted out their division 3 place 3 weeks before the season starts). We've given them some money to get the hell on with letting us have our new player but it seems this is one of those situations throwing money hasn't worked (as the SFA are just retarded and are still fighting to make cash out of Rangers and get them up a league or two). Hopefully in a week or so FIFA will turn up with a firing squad and sort this nonsense out, we all can see Rangers are trying to retain registration for players they no longer have contracted to try and worm their way back into better parts of scottish football and magic money they don't deserve. The quicker FIFA act with the boot of oppression the better for everyone.
