Allan McGregor, Steven Davis, Kyle Lafferty and Jamie Ness have joined the Ibrox exodus after declining to transfer their contracts to Charles Green's newco Rangers.

The law firm's statement added: "The union's lawyers are already instructed in this matter for Rhys McCabe and Sone Aluko.

 

"Bridge Litigation UK has confirmed that letters of objection have been sent to the club along with requests to the SFA to release the players' registrations.

 

"Bridge Litigation UK have shared with the players the contents of legal guidance issued by the SFA last week on the issue of TUPE and player registration and which they state supports their legal view that an objection under TUPE amounts to a lawful termination of contract giving the club no entitlement to a claim for compensation."

 

Ms Gribbon added: "This has been an extremely difficult period for all the players and in the end their decisions were influenced largely by footballing considerations.

 

"SPL football appears highly unlikely and even First Division football cannot be guaranteed in light of comments made today by two First Division clubs.

 

"The players' commitment and loyalty to oldco Rangers cannot be questioned; they voluntarily took significant wage cuts in a genuine act of solidarity which ensured that none of the playing squad or club staff would lose their jobs.

 

"But for their contribution, it's likely that the club would not have survived until the end of the season.

 

"As professional footballers, the players' careers are relatively short lived and they are entitled to exercise basic employment rights the law affords to all employees in this country under the TUPE Regulations.

 

"I now expect the SFA and FIFA to interpret their rules and regulations in accordance with the TUPE legislation so that the players' registrations can be released without delay."

Pretty sure that means we'll be able to get them on a free.

 

Although judging from his comments their new owner might try and challenge any free transfers. Don't think he'll have a leg to stand on though.

Guess there's nothing to pay to old or new Rangers but there will still be agents' fees and signing-on money to pay?

 

Maybe we can get mickey mouse Scottish players for 1m rather than 3m-4m?

 

Personally I would have thought we could do better?

Let's get Alan McGregor as well then.

 

If I could pick any of them I'd pick McGregor. IMO the GK position isn't one to put an unknown/tried in. Especially in our first year back.

There won't be a court case, Green doesn't have a leg to stand on.

Yep there cannot be a court case as under the rules the players are allowed to reject signing for the new co (workers rights), Green is just playing bully boy tactics to try and get some gullible teams to throw money at the black hole that is Rangers.

 

On the plus side a few decent free's!

"My young family love life in Scotland but after all that's gone on since going into administration in February there comes a point when I needed to make a decision based on what was best for my short career. I am 27 and I hope you all understand I need to be playing at the highest possible level."

Aye. But I would anticipate a move happening fairly swiftly if he's coming here. Maybe tied in with the new kit reveal on Friday...? All seems to fit timing wise.

Is it just me or does anyone else think the old 'its a short career' is always a stupid thing to say? It sort of implies that footballers are not odinary folk and deserve not to have to work after they get to 32 ish - There was me thinking the retirement age was 67 odd for most, and how many these days only ever have stay in one type of job? Its not as if he cant do what others have to do and retrain, get a job or start a business.... and having been a footballer at that level, unless they have spunked it all on champagne, designer handbags for WAGs or gambled it all its not as if they could not afford to live whilst re-educating themselves...

 

Should they just not be more honest and say 'I need to maximise my income from playing as I missed school playing football and dont have any qualifications. I really dont want to have to get a proper job, so like most people if they have a chance to earn several million before they are 32, they would go for it to...'

Eh? Even if he did retrain and do something else his football career would still have been short.

I think, in the old days, when people like Bobby Moore only earned a little bit more than the people who watched them, this was a fair argument. Footballers had to keep working after retiring from the game because they wouldn't have earned enough to see them through the rest of their lives. That's still true for most players outside the Premiership I expect. If they couldn't get jobs in the game they ran pubs, shops or sold insurance (like Geoff Hurst). Nowadays though, as FC says, the sums a player in the Prem can earn should be enough to set them up for life - either through investment or in paying for retraining for another line of work. I think FC is entirely right in his final sentence.

How tragic is it to see a Club like rangers in this state, yet Portsmouth were able to keep adding to their squad. I don't get it, not at all.

 

There is quite clearly quite a big FA/PL coverup regarding Portsmouth and they've tried to help them in anyway, so they don't get shown up.

Yes that is true.... but the context in which footballers use this 'rational' to defend their need to leave a club and go elsewhere for more money, is that they are justifying their cash chase as if they cant work after football. Why not be honest and just say you want to max your income so you dont have to work after football... not an unreasonable choice as most would love to be able to do the same and not have to work after 32.

A lot of people have not worked before 32 as well Rooney in the Euro's for one. Fourpast for however long he has been with us for another.

Not sure Davis would be anything more than a squad player to be honest. Has played out wide for Rangers but, by all accounts, far better in the centre. Have watched him numerous times and never thought he was a particularly good player, coming off a poor season also.

 

Squad depth but highest earner? No thanks.

Well, there IS that, but I was more thinking that there is a strong possibility that him being at an international airport has nothing to do with him signing for us. How many players pass through an international airport in the off season? Thousands, probably. Are they all headed down to speak to us?

 

Here's a thought. Maybe, just maybe, he was going on holiday.

 

Oh and that's if it WAS him. Far be it from me to question Dean Cox, but...

I wouldn't be surprised if Cortese insists that potential new signings do not fly in to Southampton Airport, on the basis that it makes it a lot less likely to be news, what with all the spies there are who are straight on here with exclusives.

 

I dare say that Chilworth Manor is now also on the list of places not to be used.

I want to know about any Saints information, agents and media outlets etc are on there so I ask questions. What is wrong with that?
