Steven Davis - Signs 3 Year Deal

Okay, it is only the sun and not a single quote but they're reporting we'll make him our higher earner and also Anders Svensson wants to come back.

“@SunSouthampton: Southampton ready to table an interesting offer for Steve Davis http://t.co/ukXnRM2a #SaintsFC”

Don't know a lot about Davis. Svensson would go against what we're doing so can't see that happening.

Southampton are ready to make Rangers midfielder Steve Davis their highest earner. #saintsfc

Don't know what this guys reliability is like when it comes to rumours, just thought I'd put it out there.

From Decembr:

ENGLAND. Do you still have ambitions to play down south. Maybe one day in the future, yeah. I signed a new contract with Rangers in the summer, but I’ve always said I’d probably like another crack at it in England. The Premier League is possibly the best league in the world with top-quality players, so, hopefully, I could get back there some day. At the moment, though, I’m happy where I am.

I can tell you how much reliability. None.

It's an account that just churns out what is already being reported. There's dozens of them. Don't trust any of them. They've obviously got it from the Sun.

Ok it's a rumour.... But anyone know if he's actually any good?

I have watched him many times on the telly !

He is an all action, direct central midfielder, pretty consistent and scores the odd goal !

Is he better than what we've got ? Personally I doubt it, I think it's vital to sign players who are a genuine step up from the existing squad and I'm not sure that he fits the bill !!

Signed a new 5 year deal with the club last year, so has 4 years left on his contract. Even with Rangers financial issues £2 million seems cheap. He is a Rangers fan too so I'd be surprised, unless rangers have to start in the bottom tier of Scottish football.

He's the kind of player we should be signing IMHO more experience than spiderman, better than Hammond competition for Cork.

Probably Rangers best player too

Steve Davis.....intresting

It would be interesting to see if he decides to go for the pink or the brown!

Seriously though would be good to sign Steve Davies just so people on here could keep spelling his name wrong.

Interesting that the clubs we have invited to come play with us are Wolves and Rangers. Are we wining and dining them before making overtures for Matt Jarvis and Steve Davis?

OR have the deals been struck, and part of the deal is let them have some of the revenues of our summer festival Leibherr Day?

And Udinese and Ajax... and Arsenal...

...and giving other clubs who aren't involved money from a trumped up friendly that will be pretty unpopular if people work out it's very early in pre-season and that they can see the Olympic Torch outside for free, that's a really WEIRD suggestion.

No thanks

just a little nostalgia mixed with some Swedish humour, I think.

Anders is soon to be 36 and clocked up his 130th cap in the England game. (most ever for a Swedish outfield player)

He still has a good passing-style, but has slowed a lot and might only be good for the first 60 mins. in the Prem. , I'm sure.

£2M seems very expensive. Once you go into liquidation the company ceases to exist along with all contracts. All the players will be free agents unless they resign with the newco. The SFA registrations will be lost because Rangers no longer exist.

I've been told that each team taking part in any pre-season games at SMS have been asked to leave behind one player of our choosing.

I found watching Svensson the other night quite embarrassing. I was never his greatest fan, always flattered to deceive and was very powder-puff in my view. But the other night he appeared to have turned into a hatchet man, his tackling was atrocious and he should have been yellow carded at least twice (so sent off). I never thought he had it in him to do a passable impression of Hurlock. I know its not serious but would not want him back under any circumstances.

He carries the northern Ireland team and will be a free agent, old rangers will be liquidated so he'll be effectively a free agent if he doesn't sign a new contract with the new company.

Would be a good signing, should add to the midfield nicely and give us options

I thought Svensson was very easy to follow at Euro 2012 - identify the centre circle at any time in the game , then find the nearest player to it.

Now Pekhart- that's a different story - how did he get to be considered international level ?[/QUOTE]

A Czech-born player who's played in the Premier League (if that was what it was called then?)..that must be considered automatic qualification in Prague.

There is no way Southampton, or any other club, would pay £2m for a player who could join on a Bosman, so the Sun have clearly made it up.

Theo Walcott could have technically left us for almost nothing but Arsenal paid us a fair price for him. I would be surprised if we took advantage of this contract issue when Rangers are playing jhere in a months time by invitation, seems strange.

Rangers in crisis: Seven Ibrox stars ready to quit as despair deepens

SEVEN Rangers stars are on the verge of quitting within the next 72 hours – costing the club around £10million in potential transfer fees.

MailSport can reveal Steve Davis, Stevie Naismith, Steven Whittaker, Kyle Lafferty and Carlos Bocanegra are giving serious consideration to walking away this week.

They would join Sone Aluko and Rhys McCabe, both of whom have already decided to leave, and Rangers won’t receive a penny for any of the players if they go.

The loss of Davis and Co would hit newco owner Charles Green hard in the pocket and leave Ally McCoist struggling to put out a decent team next season.

The players have been advised by employment lawyers they are within their rights to quit as their contracts cannot be transferred to the new company.

But Green disputes this and several court cases are now looming.

The players have been told to inform the club by Wednesday – via a legal letter – that they do not want to be part of the newco or to be paid their current salaries.

The wages are due to arrive in their accounts at midnight that day and Green has said he will pay them in full.

However, several of them have been advised to take the exit route and plan to do so.

Captain Davis is likely to end up at English Premier League new boys Southampton.

Lafferty has fallen out with McCoist and Championship side Leicester City are keen on the striker.

Stopper Bocanegra is also keen to leave after being unimpressed with several aspects of life at Ibrox last season.
