I play off 17 and my main swing thought is remember to look at where the ball was after you've hit it. It helps to keep your head still and over the ball and not to look up early.

Best advice was to remember that however bad the golf gets it's better than being at work and there's a pint waiting for me at the end of it.

1. 19 (was 10 before I moved to Aus....and before I developed a shank)

2. I haven't shanked it today yet!

3. If you don't practice what you've been taught your muscle memory won't remember so how the hell do you expect your handicap to go down!

...and currently I spend 5 minutes on the putting green before my weekly/fortnightly round so have to rely on my natural talent to get within 10 shots of my handicap :)

However, plans are afoot to rectify this situation as I am moving to a house next to a golf course in about 3 months time and intend to take the opportunity to use the practise facilities daily. Honest.

Oh...and if anyone has any genuine ideas how to get both the idea of a shank out of my head and actually cure me of it I will be very greatful!

Shoud have started with mine -

1) Handicap = 11

2) Main swing thought = Left shoulder under chin on the way up, right elbow close to the body on the down

3) Best advice you've recieved = grip the club like youre holding a bird - dont let it go, but dont kill it!

Keeping your elbow closer to the body helps cure a slice - might work for the shank? make sure youn keep your head down too :)

1. 28 because it can't be higher

2. Keep head still, rotate don't sway, don't look up until the ball's gone, keep the clubhead square, finish the swing facing where you want the ball to go, don't try to hit it too hard, your hands start the backswing, your legs start the downswing.

3. Don't try to think of too many things when you swing.

1. Handicap 21.3 (American System) in UK would be around 18 but I don't play enough at the moment

2. Just walk up and hit the farking golf ball - the minute you think about the shot you are doomed

3. NEVER listen to ANY advice on the course (unless you are playing with a Pro) and NEVER give advice unless asked for.

Most important lesson. Everything in golf is about rhythm. Swing too fast or too slow it doesn't matter a damn about your grip or your stance.

Best 4 now 12. Go to a pro. Keep it simple one swing thought. Release point (returning squared club to adress position at impact). Take away and pull down with forearms not hands.

do you keep your right elbow close to the body and do you delay the right wrist break to maximise lag? two things ive been working on lately and proving succesful

Way hay! Here it comes....

My old mate Tiger gave a golf clinic last year while here for DDC.

He explained all his swing changes and then gave everyone a "simple" golf tip

On the range, get a spare glove and place it between your elbow & chest then swing away and don't let it fall out......

And no I can't do it

For those that play - what are your

1) Handicaps?

2) Main swing thought?

3) Best advice you've recieved?

1. My best was 9, now...not so good.

2. Maintain my natural rythem

3. Spend more on lessons than fancy clubs

My own tip: Don't bore the tits off people with tall tales of the eagle you nearly made or the massive drive that just bounced into the out-of-bounds etc.

I love playing golf but I have to say the chat that goes with it from many is so tiring.

Pulling down with the forearms allows the hands to maintain the club/arm angle until the release point, the right elbow will be close to the body. The hypothetical release point is at hip high then the club releases however because the brain doesn't work like that the brains release point is just below shoulder height, as the club starts to unwind into the ball the arms move on their own back to the address point which coincides with the club/hands/arms impacting the ball.

Oooh do you mean you're asking me to post my exclusive close up personally filmed video?

OK no I won't. The glove is in a line with your right nipple, just under the shoulder. He placed it there having got himself into the address position.

As I said, I tried it.

The glove went further than the ball

1) Five - although it lapsed last year

2) It's all about getting the club to right point at impact, so how you do it is largely irrelevant.

3) Soft hands - John Daly says if someone pulls gently at the club it would slide out of this grip. People tend to grip too tight.

bought the swing plane hd app last weekend and filmed my swing at the range last night - you can view your own swing side by side with a pro swing (Tiger, Ernie ect) bloody good app and well recommended.

* Cost is £2.99

anyone looking for good (easy to understand) advice should check out shawn clement's Youtube clips

Wrong...

Bob Rotella's book Golf is not a game of perfect is without doubt THE best advice ANY golfer can read.

I (have been lucky enough) to watch Ernie Els take a 3 wood from 240 yards in the middle of the fairway and hit it 30 feet. I have seen Miguel Angel Jimenez take SIX from 7 feet from the pin.

THAT book explains why it happens and why you should walk up to the ball and just hit it.

More recently Bob was filmed talking to Darren Clarke for 5 minutes before the last round at the British Open last year. We all know what happened next.
