I have started recording songs of mine over the last year or so and I would like to start to put them onto my very own website. A few misguided souls even want to buy the songs. I expect to record my songs going forward..it's great therapy

Has anyone on this site created their own website. If you have who did you choose, how did you do it? I haven't a clue.

I recall Baj having some songs....

Would this be a website on my own pc?

It'll be hosted online. Basically, you'll need a domain (godaddy are good for that), Hostgator (webspace - I can offer you that for free). Then you need to design your webiste. You can go for an "off-the-shelf" solution like Weebly and customise it or better still, use a Wordpress template. There are some real decent free ones, but many of the more desirable cost a little. Of course, you'll also have to consider what you'd like features wise on your site with regards to downloadable/streaming content etc.

Sounds a bit much to take in at first but I can of course help and I'm sure many other people on here can offer their expertise also.

myspace is still the best option for a musician, that and a facebook page with soundcloud

I was thinking the same....I 'look after' a website for a band but we rarely update it these days due to most fan traffic going via Facebook and the like. That said, it's probably still a good idea to have a website as a formal 'portal' to direct fans to your social network pages if nothing else.

I have done this for my wife's website (she's a singer), I used soundcloud.com to do the leg work for me and then used the imbeded code to bring it to my site really easy. Also there is a great app for Facebook called bandpage or something like that which can enable you to bring it all under 1 roof on FB
