Dickson not happy???

I imagine this is because his wage has bumped up a significant amount due to our promotion, and this has made his wage demands out of reach for the clubs who were interested - and I imagine (from the tone of that) we're not willing to subsidize enough % to allow a club to take him.

Just read that myself.

Was in the news the other week because he was unlikely to go back to Yeovil owing to his new wages. Wonder if a club has come in for him on loan, he wanted to go, but they can't afford him and we won't budge.

Either way it sounds as if he's not wanted.

What a cry-baby! If he's that bothered about playing football he could always take a pay cut!

I doubt it's as easy as that. We either want too much $$$ for a transfer fee, and that's putting clubs off, or we're unwilling to pay enough towards his weekly wage so a small club can take him on loan.

Either way, it sounds as if we're being a tad awkward and standing our ground from a financial position.

Just because we've got money in the bank it shouldn't mean that we don't go for the best on deals. Bearsy has a point actually, he was more than willing to accept bigger wages (who wouldn't?) and now he's got to live with it.

Yeah I spose so. Cortese has a bit of form for cutting his nose off to spite his face, letting players sit on fat contracts rather than ship them out for reduced fees. #puncheon

That General Levy at Spurs is much the same.

Can you turn those wages down though? Isn't it some sort of automatic clause that gets activated once the target is achieved? It's similar I guess to a player playing 10 games..and then gets an automatic renewall. It was probably all written into his contract when he signed in L1 and at that point, we probably though he'd be a first choice for us in time - and i imagine he fancied his chance too, but he's been a huge flop - let's be honest. I'm glad he didn't cost too much.

Can you turn them down? You can, but I can't imagine many people would, hence why I said in brackets 'who wouldn't?'. It's equally a bad business decision to spend what we did on him and keep paying him not to play, so something will have to give. I imagine he'll leave sooner rather than later, loan or permanently.

If his new wages have only been activated on Premier League promotion then its not quite the same as choosing to take a big pay cut from a salary you've been on for a while.

I imagine he will have been told by the club that he won't be in the 25 man squad (and maybe even that we won't look to loan him out unless a club pays 100% of his wages), and therefore he won't feature at all. So he has a choice; either accept a deal from another club on lower wages (and a lot lower than his new found wealth), or take the cash and play for the development squad.

Personally I think it is a bit crap that a player who contributed absolutely nothing to a promotion campaign is likely to get a significant pay rise. There should surely be clauses to say player X plays a certain amount of games in the promotion winning side to qualify for the rise in wages.

This greed is one of the reasons why British football is so out of touch with reality.

Thats the issue now we're in the Prem. This whole 'squad' thing throws a spanner in the works. If it wasn't there, Dickson would be in the squad as he is reasonable backup if both Fox and Harding got injured/suspended.

However, now as you can only choose 25, you need to decide whether he's up to it or not as it can't be changed until the end of January.

Tough call but if Adkins and co. feel his isn't up to the job, he needs to start looking for a club. However, what works in his favour is that FL clubs have the loan window so although he's still here and not going to be in our squad, theres always the possibility that a FL club will come in and take him on a short term loan.

Plus, I think he does want to go to Yeovil. He was spotted the other day jogging around Yeovil in a Yeovil shirt so seems like he wants to live and play there just that they can't afford him due to his wage rise here.

You've all leapt to the conclusion that this is Dickson moaning about Saints, but he never actually mentions us. Wouldn't it make far more sense if it was a Yeovil 'busines'' decision not to take him on permanently. If it was anything to do with his wages, he wouldn't be moaning. I can't imagine what 'business decision' Saints could have made that would p*ss him off.

There we go:

Ryandickson23: @BenHamer21 cant beat playing though mate frustrated ant the word! Just can't understand not wanted so let me play else where!

Basically saying that he knows he isn't wanted here so why keep him? No benefit to him or club.

Clealry is us stopping the move in some way.

I imagine it's financial and we don't want to help towards the wage, or we want some ridiculous loan fee. We acted the same with Puncheon for some reason, plenty of takers but we put a silly price on his head.

Adam Blackmore has asked Ryan about it on Twitter. I imagine if Ryan is smart then he'll probably keep quiet, but I imagine there's more to come, be it from him or the club.

If he is wise he'll say no more. Twitter can end up being a dangerous tool for football players and celebrities a like it seems. I hope, whatever the problem is, he can sort it out and get first team football somewhere. Its a shame it didn't work out here for him.

Just had a look at his twitter page. He has one heck of a missus.

RE: his latest tweet. No idea, maybe Yeovil wanted to loan Dickson but Saints would rather sell him. Or Yeovil just didn't offer enough money.

TBF maybe he could just reduce his wage demands.

I don't have too much knowledge in this, but I just have the feeling that it's not as simple as that. He's got a basic wage applied to his contract which needs to be met wherever he is, surely? So we either pay 50% and the other club pay 50%, or we pay 0% and the other club pay 100%. I don't think you can just forfeit your contracted wage.

WTF? Of course you can. When you sign for a club you sign a new contract.

Sounds like we are the issue rather than him? He could take no signing on fee or lower wage demends to help get a deal through.

Shame, he won't go for much cash so would rather just see him go rather than keep someone who will become unhappy about not being ale to go ala punchen.

I'm pretty sure there's a way you can forfeit your wage, but even if there isn't, he could just set up a standing order of £XXXX per month to the Club which would give the same result.

The words at the end of the tweet 'could be worse' sounds more like frustration than being ****ed off. I think a lot of you are blowing this out of proportion. I think he is entitled to express a view (which will be received with some comfort by Yeovil fans who might otherwise think it's HIS decision not to move) but I'm sure he will be professional about it. At the end of he day you have to feel some sympathy for a guy who just wants to play football.

Not sure hes wise publicising it but I think its commendable that he would rather play than sit on his arse and take our wages.

My thoughts exactly. I think it's a bit tough on him to jump to conclusions like some seem to. Not financially but professionally he's been a victim of his team mates success and appears to be implying he'd rather accept a lower wage at a lower level (which, lets face it is where he's at). Who would ever take a potential pay rise clause out of their contract to guard against this situation?!

Whether this is true or not, there's nothing to stop him accepting a lower wage at another club.

He could put in a transfer request, our problem is that the quick promotion has overtaken some players who have been left behind due to lack of championship action. Barnard, Dickson, Seaborne etc. so the jump from L1 to PL is too big a step.

I've followed Dickson all season on Twitter.

His reactions to our success showed that he felt an affection to us, he was also slightly more interesting than some of the other inane footballers out there I tried to follow while I got the hang of the damned thing.

One thing is for sure, he is no Puncheon, he clearly felt an affection for the club and the lads he left behind and he clearly enjoyed playing football while on loan.

To give him the benefit of the doubt, his original tweet DID include the words

could be worse!

Take that as the lad has got a pay rise and will have to watch PL football every week, so he is trying to be positive.

This is not a big NC v Player issue, it is now a Dickson & His Agent issue. IF he wants to play then his agent has to find a club. he isn't tied to the Southcoast having tweeted about a view over Orient's ground from his new digs.

He is one of those who will not be good enough for the PL, he's a decent guy. He'll get sorted, just the easy option (Yeovil) is not on the table any more

Always liked Dickson when he played looked a good prospect when we signed him deffo a top league one player, his best bet is to join a promotion chasing team, as i rekon he can do a job in the championship for someone and hopefully were get a decent fee for him in return, or if we go back down he can help us next season.

Surely its too soon to have made a decision about what will happen to him. All he knows at the moment is that he won't be in the 1st team squad next season, personally would have been shocked if he was (not good enough for the Championship so unlikely to be good enough for the PL). Saints will therefore be looking to either loan him or transfer him to recoup some of their investment. That process may continue until end August or even longer. Maybe we will look to use him as part of a transfer deal, or maybe if we can find a buyer we will sell him straight. I think people are forgetting its still only mid June, we have over 2 months to go before the transfer window shuts and even then there is still the loan window.

Also, relevant point, do we know yet whether we will be playing in the Premier Reserve League next season or not? If we are then we will need a hell of a lot more players than we currently have (I suspect we won't though and will contine with Development Squad at least until 2013/14 season when the Reserve League is supposed to be re-structured).

In British Law (and most other laws) All contracts can be amended if the amendments are mutually acceptable to all parties to that contract. The problem arises when only one party wishes to amend a contract and the other does not!

Sounds like he wants to go to Yeovil they want Saints to subsidise the difference in wages between his premiere triggered clause and league 1 and Saints dont wish to do that. his choices are therefore

1) Get Yeovil to pay full wack (likely to be unaffordable)

2) Get Saints to pay the difference

3) Accept a lower wage

4) Stay at Saints and play devlopment football and be paid to watch premiere league till his contract runs out (not a bad choice really) how many years is he signed up for?
