Two new big LED screens at St Mary's for 2012/13

You all know I haven't got access to all the PL and FL clubs accounts but I'd like to see anyone argue that most teams in these divisions are spending more than us on infrastructure at the moment.

That's not really what you claimed though, was it.

It does show that we are one of only a handful of teams splashing the cash at the moment. Good times.

The one above the Chapel has needed replacing for years, there's a massive block that seems to alternate between staying blank and being bright green.

Yeah the Northam one does that as well from time to time. There were also a lot of temporary fixes made to the box that distributes the pictures and a few things have been broken for some time - exposed circuit boards etc. Hopefully that will all be cleared up.

I seem to recall Paul Telfer whacking one of the screens with a shot.

There will be LED advertising all around the perimeter of the pitch this coming season and there will be an extension on top of the Kingsland stand ? (one opposite the players entrance) built, hopefully, ready for the following season.

Id be happy to be proved wrong but I don't see many teams spending as much on infrastructure as we are at the moment considering we are not expanding our stadium.

How much is a handful, 5, 10? I don't think I'm too far wrong with this.

As I said in the opening post, it is on page 12 of the document, where it says...

New LED screens for 2012/13 season.

Thanks, I am at work and couldn't spend too long looking at it.

I imagine there will be a large improvement - excellent!

Yep, things have moved on a long way in the 11 years since 2001 when the current ones were installed. For a start it will be in HD.

We are just about to buy 2 tellies ourseves to replace our aging (6 years old) 42 inch Panasonic...we will also experience HD.....we will watch the Olympics and Sky footy in style.

Can't wait....what a great club we support!! I haven't looked forward to a season as much in years.

Ah ok, if you're instead saying "as much" then fair enough. Your original statement stated that hardly any other clubs are spending on infrastructure, which is clearly not true. Man City with their huge project, Spurs £45M training ground, Arsenal's improvements to London Colney, Chelsea's new stadium search, Reading & Wolves investments in stadium and academy, Brighton increasing their ground further, Cardiff's new owners plans to improve infrastructure, West Ham with the Olympic Stadium, and that's just the ones I can recall right now.

It's great though that we're improving in the right areas, mind.

We should aim to beat this... ;)

Been there... it's just completely mind-bogglingly jaw-dropping (as is the whole stadium, to be honest). Apparently the two screens along the sides are each the size of a tennis court. As American Football is about 3/4 waiting around whilst eating and drinking, it's heavily used for advertising, getting the crowd going, providing stats etc. All part of the Great American Sports Experience ™!

you make out that we will have the best of everything

even spurs are upgrading their already excellent training facilities

Even QPR are building a new training ground and academy that will be able to compete with anyone and it has 15 odd pitches including specially sized ones for the kids.

"the standard in the PL" is the top quality. Only a handful wont be up to that standard.

We also need to rename one of the stands 'the Nicola Cortese stand', can't be outdone by Bompey who have done this. Magnificent isn't it. So classy. The picture used on the Leeds United programme will do.

Oh yeah - I sw that at the Charlton game. It is not as classy as it looks in your picture to be fair. It's made from MDF.

What is crazy (Diamond) is that for what it cost to do that monstrosity, you could have had really nice lettering done...

Madman Mitchell made his name in the building game, you'd think they could do better for that amazing man Steve Fletcher, who has scored an incredible 103 goals in 20 years with Bournemouth. Prolific.

Haha! I laughed more at those stats than I did when I saw the thing!!What an earth has Fletch done to deserve that then? Maybe Mitchell was using some unwanted cash...

Amazing how simple good (albeit small) news becomes the same old thread each time, just the same people having the same argument with no potential end. Good times.

It's amazing isn't it? Super stadiums, who is bigger, march to the champions league etc etc. It seems that only a few nut jobs on both sides are unable to let it go and somehow seem to link it to EVERYTHING!

To be fair, he's only a target man. Target men don't get many goals. Well, apart from Alan Shearer. Rickie. Hang on...

What does "More than 71% of our database is classed as ABC1" mean ?

Just googled it and it is to do with social classes. A = Upper middle class etc.

I think it means we have quite a high class of fans. ABC1 basically means middle class as opposed to C2DE which basically means working class.

71 - 100% of the database is classed as ABC1......sorry couldn't resist. I'd like to know too if someone can clarify.

I imagine they are a profile category. In the media you class people according to how much they earn and what jobs they do, A1 being the high earners, C1 being blue collar (could be wrong, it's been five years since I studied it). It's a similar thing I would think.

Think there may be a bit of confusion with the fact that the PDF page number is not the same as the brochure. 2 pages of brochure per 1 PDF page. Could be wrong without going back into it.

Well that is true today, currently trending in the UK on Twitter and earlier today was trending worldwide.

But trending doesn't mean a lot of people are talking about, only that a lot more people are talking about it than were not long before. You can be trending without that many people actually referring to you.

It seems some of our mental fans can't get their heads around the fact that any other club in the world might spend any money on improving their facilities, it's only us that do this.

Well a woman on a vox pop the other day said we're as big as Liverpool, so it must be true.

How will the club's new commercial opportunities effect the sale of your sponge hands?

Exciting developments with the 2012/13 premier range.

Each foam had now comes with velcro words that can be changed depending on the opposition and situation. For example

"going down" when we play a relegation threaded team with a giant foam hand thumbs down.

"off, off, off" when a player gets sent off whilst the foam hand is pointing towards the tunnel

"premier league, we're having a laff" as a reposte to the inevitable chant

"Cheerio" for the late stages of the game when losing fans are leaving. Imagine the sight of 10,000 foam hands waving with that insult on them!!!

For an additional £15.99 they can also by a bag of letters for those wacky and inventive enough to come up with own.

I'm also planning to launch a new range of flags and badges with a Saints fan p*sing on a Barcelona shirt and the words"you dirty Catalan bastardos we're coming for you" written underneath.

TBF that one has never really recovered from the time Telfer smacked it with one of his rare efforts at goal.

i'm sorry but thats not good enough. how is that best in field/class ? do you want opposition fans to laugh at us !

surely LED panels on the protruding finger are more fitting with Saints stature & the announcement of our new world class screens ?

come on Turkish, stop thinking Dell sized thoughts ! (i do like idea for the flags/badges though)

Surely the ST sales will be a lot more than 14,000 by the start of the coming season, would be hoping for around 20k?

Better hope that all 180,000+ don't turn up at the same game, not sure that bridge over the railway line will be able to cope...

Basically our fans are richer and less chavy than average.
I guess that doesn't include the people interviewed in "The Saint" pub by South Today. One thought the grey shirt man utd game was the 6-3 game! Still, what do you expect from blokes in the pub when they should be at work :)

If St Marys was filled with people like 'The Saints' pub regulars every home match then it would be a vast improvement on a lot of whinging snobs we get now. ;)
