Not exactly earth shattering news, the old one were starting to show their age and technology has moved on since they were installed in 2001. See page 12 of the document below...

A few interesting lines in that document, such as - official confirmation of there being over 180,000 individuals on the Saints database (page 6).

The number of improvements we're making is quite interesting. We seemed to do okay last time we were in the Premier League - in hindsight was it not good enough? Apparently so.

Things are light years ahead since the last time we were in there. If we got promoted and kept every the same (i.e training ground etc) We'd be light years behind most clubs in teh PL, all we're doing is bringing things up to what is now the standard.

Lots has changed in 7 years.

The Staplewood development goes over and beyond merely "the standard for the Premier League".

Oh so our stadium was the reason we were relegated was it? There was me thinking it was results and the team. Silly me.

In any case, the screens are now 11 years old, the changing rooms were 10 years old when they were done, the corporate facilities needed a face lift for Premier League corporate of 2012 compared to the last time we were in the league, Staplewood had fallen behind a number of clubs etc etc. Cortese is doing what needs to be done for us to compete against Premier League rivals.

I also said the improvements we are making indicate that last time it wasn't good enough - referring to the stadium, which is the subject of this thread, as it is about LED screens from YOUR title.

You're quite clearly mentally ill. Stick to sitting in the dark and working on Football Manager and stop communicating with people.

you make out that we will have the best of everything

even spurs are upgrading their already excellent training facilities

I didn't say it was the best did I? It is above average though in the Premier League and has a number of features better than some of the really big clubs. At a £15 million cost, you would expect that, thats £15 million without the cost of the land or the existing training dome structure.

Isnt this just a simple case of upgrading and another sign we are moving with the times and not stagnating like other clubs. I'd still be watching a 28 inch CRT tv if I hadn't upgraded since 2001.

It's not as simple as that. This is a sign that we are up there with the big boys. I'm just waiting for the announcement regarding toilet paper - if we go to double quilted, we know we've made it.

I know you are just taking the pi ss but these screens aren't cheap and not essential nor are the other upgrades. It does show that we are one of only a handful of teams splashing the cash at the moment. Good times.

How does it show we're one of only a handful of clubs spending cash?

It was not officially announced before, so the 15k was only people guessing and they weren't far out.

Yes, I know that, but thanks for the irrelevant comment. I was stating that I was suprised it was announced as lower than the 15K figure being talked about.

Where did you get that document from? Can't see it on the OS anywhere?

Is it the ST welcome pack?

It is on the OS under the commercial tab > sponsorship

Is it the ST welcome pack?

It isn't for season ticket holders, it is to attract corporate sponsorship and ticket sales in the Premier League.

I worked at the club last season for the Beeb and there were one or two moments when the screens were a problem, and with new technology coming in, I can kind of see the logic in upgrading them - but there were just one or two moments where we had problems, they weren't constant and huge problems. It's probably a luxury more than a necessity, certainly.

The picture quality of the current screens isn't very good anyway. Basically the pictures you saw on the screens last season was a feed from a BBC camera that was primarily there to record the game for match highlights on the Football League Show. The format that the BBC used for covering football matches last season in the Football League was digi-beta, which isn't exactly new. Even so, the quality going out from the camera to the screen had to be adjusted, because at its highest setting the pictures looked burnt out on the screen.

This season it'll be HD cameras covering the games, so rather than having poor quality pictures put up on the screens, we'll have nice shiny new ones that will offer a better picture to go with the better cameras, a perfect match. Again, it's not a necessity, but a luxury, because you can get by without maximum quality - we did fine last season for example.

Hopefully there will also be work done on the camera gantry as last season it quickly became hectic up there, and with bigger crews coming in to do live games etc it'll only get worse.

I don't see many other teams spending on their current infrastructure as much as we are at the moment. That's all.

Wolves & Reading are expanding their staidum, Arsenal and Tottenham are currently upgrading their training ground. That's 4 off the top of my head.

Quality, thanks for that.

I think it's great NC is investing in things like this.

Maybe the next upgrade will be 3D and we can all wear glasses to the match.

You're welcome, I hope it made sense. Basically it's not a necessity to improve the screens but they are showing signs of falling behind the times and are already not at their best.

Last I heard the Wolves expansion was in some doubt - a lot of it relied on Premier League cash.

As for Reading, I can't understand that for the life of me. A few bad results and they'll all go back to supporting Chelsea and Arsenal anyway.

And we've spent 15m on our training facilities, done up the inside of the stadium and now are buying 2 screens. Like I said, there aren't many teams spending as much as us.

Wolves have just completed phase 1 of their stadium expansion. They've put on hold plans for phase 2 right now; partly because of relegation, partly because they're diverting some of the funding towards development of their academy.

Reading, agreed. They've had a massive boom on season ticket sales but I imagine once the novelty starts to wear off they'd often struggle to get close to regularly filling a stadium of the size they're considering.

Hmm. The academy thing is interesting, wonder if that's actually true. I suppose with all the applying for category whatever status it could be true, then again it might just be an excuse. Maybe if we pay them £10 million for Jarvis we'll help out eh.

Reading to me are a bit of a joke, I've rarely come across fans anymore fickle than them. Nowhere to be seen when the season kicked off, as soon as they put a few wins together they were suddenly emerging out the woodwork. I can't remember fans that were so quiet unless they were winning - the game at St. Mary's redefined what poor support was for me. They actually call the Madejski 'the library' because it is that quiet.

A few media outlets reported on it, this was the first result froma quick google searc.

http://www.expressandstar.com/sport/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2012/01/19/wolves-to-stall-molineux-stadium-revamp/

"But construction has been stalled to plough funds into ensuring the club’s new football academy at Compton Park is up to the top Premier League standard.

That £6 million development work will also include a new training ground."
