Man City away first up

Guys get some perspective.... We can decide the title in the first 4 weeks :p

On a serious note, I would rather play city away first game than after we have played 6-7games and we have had a wake up call. Right now we are on the back of back to back promotions, we are not expected to win and this is a cup tie for us. Its followed up by Wigan at home, and if we can't win that we will be in the relegation zone regardless. Loosen up. We may well get 4 points from these first 2 games and then we can enjoy Manure at home. I really don't think this is that bad. It is a tough league next season, but we have great team mentality and I think we will surprise a few people. Also lambert, lallana and cork and morgan will be a bit of an unknown for the first few games and that is a decent premier league core.

Ultimately the boys have nothing to lose and everything to play for. And they will be full of confidence. Have some faith! What we have achieved so far has been spectacular but the best is still to come. And this team, with the right additions can be a 10th placed team this season. Its a tough start, but imagine how easy it will be to play the other teams after those first 4 games ^_^

Ducks head in anticipation of impending barrage!!!

Then for good measure, adds "champions league, here we come" :)

Lots of Love,

This...great start, that's what we came up for!

At least the players/manager get their Premier League wake up early. You're expected to lose to top 6 teams anyway. So long as you don't let it demoralise you then it'll be useful in getting you into gear. The worst thing to happen would be to draw/lose your games against relegation rivals early on while acclimatising.

Swansea's first game last season was away v Man City (moved to Monday Night for SKY). We held them to 0-0 for 60 minutes before the avalanche came. 4-0. Hammered. It was a learning experience!

Swansea's first 7 results last year were LDLDLWL, and we didn't win our first away game until Jan 2nd vs Aston Villa.

You will need testicular fortitude this year.

Good luck.

I predict the first "is Adkins up to it?" thread before September is out.

Its a perfectly valid question to aks now, since he has no PL experience.

But most fair-minded people think actions speak louder than words, so are watching the transfer activity over the summer and the first couple of months of the season closely.

I can't work out whether teams with a load of international players will start fresher or rustier than teams like Saints?

I don't mind playing the good teams at the start, not sure I'd want to begin with 4 or 5 "must win" type games.

Most important early match is Wigan at home, of course.

Isn't a rule of thumb that you probably need to win about eight home games to stay up?

Given the height of my ambitions (at present) is to avoid relegation, I'm most interested in the St. Mary's fixtures against the "bottom 10-12" much more than the glamour fixtures.

Quite a shock to the system to see the fixture list - in the last three seasons, we've started about 90% of league games as favourites.

Them days are gone (and a good thing too)

That was the "welcome to the Premier League Mr. Aguero" show, right?

Neither did Rogers, neither did Lambert and look where it got them.

Fair enough.

Agree with you on the transfer market though. There are some key areas we need to strength. I don't want to see any fannying about this summer like we did almost signing so many centre halves last year.

Oooh, now THAT's tempting.

Etihad sponsor Citeh.

Etihad are just down the road.

They offer complete packages for games for not more than the cost of a normal ticket home........

Hmmmm

Wait for the tv date... wait... wait...

And you and some others are still bitter about it ?

I think its safe for us to move on now :)

what move and be positive about Saints maybe?

You have a go at people who spout the anti-portsmouth stuff and yet we have to listen to your negative drivel.

We couldn't have asked for a more perfect fixture to start with in my view. Any pressure of this being our first game back in the Prem will be gone. No one, absolutely no one, not even the most delusional Saints supporters, of which there are many, will believe we can get anything from this game. Man City dropped 2 points at home all last season. Go and enjoy it I say. If the players get anything from the game, they'll be heroes. Nothing to lose.

Maybe best to play the big teams early on as (hopefully.......) a lot of their players will have played in the Euros and will be knackered/not 100% ready. Whereas our boys will have been on a diet of raw meat and red bull (+a sex ban....)for 6 weeks or so. Grrrrrrrrrrr!!

I hope the list has prompted our Chairman to fill his ink pen and start scribbling his name on quite a few contracts, and most of them won't know where S****hurpe is. Great to be back where we belong and we must be given the best chance possible.

Well this one will be on tv definitely.

From the 5th game to December we are playing teams we can compete with so this is an important part of the season.

If you're saying we can't compete with some teams in this division during a one-off game then we shouldn't bother being here.

Erm, do you think Cortese didn't already know who the other 19 Prem teams were before today ?

Wasn't there a lengthy discussion about whether we'd rather be regularly winning in the Championship or occasionally winning in the Premier League on this forum even before we got promoted. I'm pretty sure there are teams in last season's Prem top half who don't genuinely believe they can compete with Man City in a one-off game.

I think in hindsight our first three games being as tough as they are is a good thing. Firstly we have the summer to prepare for them. Secondly it'll bring everyone back down to earth and show them what a daunting task being in the Premier League is these days (and trying to stay in there). Thirdly, we ALWAYS start poorly, last season aside, and now not only do we have a ready made excuse, but we get rid of three tough fixtures when perhaps we'd be struggling against easier-to-beat clubs. Fourthly that Wigan game as the filling in a sh'tty sandwich gives us our best chance of getting three points now, and I expect we'll go all out to win it.

Perhaps I'm looking for silver linings, but I reckon we could get 4 points from the first 4 games. Any more would be a FANTASTIC result. Any fewer and it wouldn't be the end of the world. Beat Man City? Lol
