how did the Greeks qualify above the Ruskies when despite an identical playing record P3 1-1-1 ...Russia had a +2 GD, and the Greeks +/- 0

I've heard that Russia have offered to buy their place from them. Apparently the Greek FA are furious at having to fork out for another week at the team hotel and are thinking of taking the Russians up on their offer.

How come Holland havn't already been knocked out if it goes on head to head?

 

They have already lost to Germany and Denmark and can only reach 3 points?

If they beat Portugal there is a triangle. Holland beat Portugal, Portugal beat Denmark, Denmark beat Holland, therefore they're all level on head to head. Then it goes to GD.

 

If it stays as 2 draws, Portugal go through on head to head because they beat Denmark.

*UEFA has amended its provisions on final group rankings after a decision by the UEFA Executive Committee at its meeting in Istanbul on 20 March 2012. The change has been made to avoid doubt, and in order to ensure that the criteria related to the direct confrontation between the teams remaining equal in points after the group phase are reapplied,

Paragraph 08.07 of the UEFA European Football Championship 2010-12 regulations now reads as follows, with a new clause d) shown in bold.

"If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following criteria are applied to determine the rankings:

a) Higher number of points obtained in the matches played between the teams in question;

b) Superior goal difference resulting from the matches played between the teams in question;

c) Higher number of goals scored in the matches played between the teams in question;

d) If, after having applied criteria a) to c), two teams still have an equal ranking, criteria a) to c) are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the two teams in question to determine the final rankings of the two teams. f) higher number of goals scored in all group matches;

So if we lose 1-0 and France lose 3-1 .... we are tied with France for 2nd spot .... same GD, same Goals scored and conceded and drew our match with them so I'm guessing they are higher ranked then us so go through on that basis ----- pah gimmee a toss of a coin any day of the week.

I heard that rumour as well, but it seems the russians withdrew it when they discovered how weak the euro was against the rouble.

Thanks, I spent loads of time last night trying to work out how the Dutch could go through, as they lost to both Denmark & Germany.
