How Good Can Schneiderlin Get? And Who's Better: Schneiderlin or Cork?

Comparisons between the two are meaningless as they have different roles. But if you are going to compare then there is no contest. Morgan is a defensive midfielder whose game is to sit in front of the 2 CBs, break up play and then get us going again. He is supreme at this, hardly ever gives the ball away and has great first touch. he is not there to score goals, but still manages more than Cork or Hammond (just). Cork is supposed to be more of an attacking MF, but has relatively poor touch and cannot score to save his life. Hopefully he will improve this aspect of his game because we cannot afford to have an offensive midfielder who is unable to socre goals.

I hoped Cork would really flourish last season playing regularly in a settled team and signed to a club who valued him after years on loan signed to a club who didnt. If anything though the second half of the season was much poorer than the first (admittedly he isnt alone in that).

You really must watch a different game to me, Schneiderlin gives the ball away the least of any Saints player.

One of the best things about being in the Prem is that there will be readily available stats to support these kind of arguments next season.

FWIW, I think both have a good first touch, Schneiderlin is better at long range passing, Cork is better at protecting the ball under pressure, and neither of them can shoot for toffee but Schneiderlin has at least shinned one decent one in and has vaguely competent technique compared to Cork, who isn't the best at moving a ball more than 15 yards in any way. Yes, that was one sentence.

When considering the intangibles, Cork has shorter shorts, Morgan better facial hair and more resemblance to a Hollyoaks character - which is surprising when you think about it. Based on the 1993 FA Cup run for Sheffield United, Cork also has beard genetics so may surprise us next season.

I thought Cork started excellently, dropped right off by the end of September, was pretty much "just there" until March and had nothing like the influence (and got dropped as a result) and then got good again for the rest of the season.

Would rate both of them a lot more if they got at least four or five goals per season.

The system the club used led to Saints being promoted as the league's top scorers and with one of the best defensive records. I think Adkins balanced Hammond/Cork/Schneiderlin's roles just fine as it allowed the team as a whole to perform offensively/defensively.

I think Morgan could flourisj alongside another Defensive midfield player, to give hom more freedom to move forward and also to stop the opposition wife men cutting inside and shooting. He has pretty much all the technique of Schweinsteiger, he just needs a bit more time to develop.

Cork on the other hand is a typical english cm, who runs around a lot, often bewcause he is in the wrong position to start with. For the Norris goal, he was chasing the ball on the half way line, when he should have been 5 yards in front of Fonte. He is just like Henderson of Liverpool but with a worse shot.

Lots of strange views on this board, but this is the weirdest. Over 46 games, you choose one incident to justify your view that Cork is crap. Cork and Morgan are different players, but of the two, last season, Cork was the one that would have been missed most. Morgan may well be better suited to the Premier league, but we won't know until about half way through next season. On the other hand, if you want a midfield player to hit it 40 yards to no-one in particular, then Morgan is your man.

Neither are crap. Both are premiership standard. The question is probably answered by thinking about who you replace when Ward-Prowse is ready for first team action. I thinks with the cup games last year, Prowse will replace Morgan who in turn will replace Cork in a fensive midfield role. Exciting to have those option though eh?
