Jury service

I did it last year. In two weeks I had four cases, two of which were quite simply one word against the other and no other evidence. Massive responsibility, with peoples lives in your hands. I actually felt most jury members were almost too scared to find people guilty, preferring to take the easy way out pointing to doubt that I didn't feel was there. Take a book as there can be lots and lots of sitting around.

I've done it twice and was Jury foreman the second time. Believe me getting 12 complete strangers to agree on anything can be surprisingly difficult, even when the evidence seems perfectly clear. Be prepared for lots a hanging about and possibly being sent home as well.

If I may give you a small hint - as a Saints fan wanting a skate defendant to deliberate upon is probably not the attitude the court is looking for ....

Friend of mine got called in his, to a case, something to do with a chap making porn at home and selling it on without some 'actors' aware of the filming. He was forced to watch a couple of vids as part of the evidence. Not sure what the true nature of the case was, but he reckoned it was a surreal experience watching porn with a few strangers, and that a couple of the films were pretty good! It was before the days of the internet too

I have done it three times, I have done three rapes, three assaults, a theft by finding, a shop lifting and a fraud. Mostly a couple of days and one collapsed on day three. A lot of waiting around and being sent home, and even when sitting as soon as you hear the words, 'Point of Law' you're out and back, and out and back. As mentioned above, sometimes it is difficult to get 12 people to agree, but sometimes it's a bang-to-rights 'guilty' and sometimes a straight forward 'not

guilty'. It can be a lot of pressure as this is someone's life you are dealing with, but don't be afraid to ask a question if you don't undersatnd anyhting. And take soem form of portable entertainment, as you will spend a lot of time hanging around.

You don't sound to me like the sort of person who should be a juror.
