Huffton Posted 12 June, 2012 Share Posted 12 June, 2012 Anyone done it? I am starting tomorrow. Really looking forward to it, despite what it will cost me in lost earnings. Just hope I get a decent case. And a defendant who is a skate...
dune Posted 12 June, 2012 Share Posted 12 June, 2012 I have done it. It's very boring tbh, you spend most of the time sat about in the jury canteen area with people you don't want to talk to.
Chez Posted 12 June, 2012 Share Posted 12 June, 2012 I did it last year. In two weeks I had four cases, two of which were quite simply one word against the other and no other evidence. Massive responsibility, with peoples lives in your hands. I actually felt most jury members were almost too scared to find people guilty, preferring to take the easy way out pointing to doubt that I didn't feel was there. Take a book as there can be lots and lots of sitting around.
swannymere Posted 12 June, 2012 Share Posted 12 June, 2012 Take a Laptop if you can, there's alot of sitting around and waiting, get some nice Sandwiches at M&S as the canteen (barely) one's are crap.
trousers Posted 12 June, 2012 Share Posted 12 June, 2012 Did it at Winchester about 15 years ago. Concur with all the posts thus far. It's a good experience but unless you get a major case it's mainly sitting around waiting to be called up for a 1 or 2 day case.

CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 13 June, 2012 Share Posted 13 June, 2012 I've done it twice and was Jury foreman the second time. Believe me getting 12 complete strangers to agree on anything can be surprisingly difficult, even when the evidence seems perfectly clear. Be prepared for lots a hanging about and possibly being sent home as well. If I may give you a small hint - as a Saints fan wanting a skate defendant to deliberate upon is probably not the attitude the court is looking for .... Huffton Posted 13 June, 2012 Author Share Posted 13 June, 2012 Back home already, didn't get selected:rolleyes: Have to phone up friday to see if I'm needed next week now. Truesaint Posted 13 June, 2012 Share Posted 13 June, 2012 Friend of mine got called in his, to a case, something to do with a chap making porn at home and selling it on without some 'actors' aware of the filming. He was forced to watch a couple of vids as part of the evidence. Not sure what the true nature of the case was, but he reckoned it was a surreal experience watching porn with a few strangers, and that a couple of the films were pretty good! It was before the days of the internet too
RedAndWhite91 Posted 13 June, 2012 Share Posted 13 June, 2012 Done it once. Waste of time. The only time I got anywhere near going in to a trial, the matey confessed everything about half an hour before it was set to begin. W*nker.
Secret Site Agent Posted 13 June, 2012 Share Posted 13 June, 2012 I have done it three times, I have done three rapes, three assaults, a theft by finding, a shop lifting and a fraud. Mostly a couple of days and one collapsed on day three. A lot of waiting around and being sent home, and even when sitting as soon as you hear the words, 'Point of Law' you're out and back, and out and back. As mentioned above, sometimes it is difficult to get 12 people to agree, but sometimes it's a bang-to-rights 'guilty' and sometimes a straight forward 'not guilty'. It can be a lot of pressure as this is someone's life you are dealing with, but don't be afraid to ask a question if you don't undersatnd anyhting. And take soem form of portable entertainment, as you will spend a lot of time hanging around.
