BBC website finally admits we are premier league...

From who? The BBC?

Yep. The insitution that takes 15mins to update a match score when Saints have scored, and an average of 0.452ns when West Ham score, and writes so much claptrap about matches you wonder if they were in the same ground as you.

The BBC has persistently demonstrated in recent times that it is a petty, biased organisation in Politics; maybe the cancer has spread to the Sports Department too.

I was going to say that the fact it has taken so long to update this clearly reaffirms the belief that the beeb has an anti-saints agenda. But it looks like Alps beat me to it.

winky thing to show that I'm not being serious, unlike Alps....

Hey Alps, calm down mate... its only the beeb. I agree they are slow on our online updates, but surely, this is more to do with the fact that those responsible for the updtes are likely to be fans of certain clubs.... rather than any arranged bias...not sure the jo applications include which team you support juts yet! ;)

BBC 'new' sports site has been very slow to update scores. Not just ours though, I check loads of games and always slow. Comes up on the vidiprinter a few minutes before the match screen quite often.

But anti-saints it isn't. Probably not pro-saints either. Just meh saints.

If you're going to get angry at the BBC, get angry about the deluge of sh1te programming. Although even then, they're just catering to the morons that watch, so get angry with the number of idiots watching inane TV. Overall, don't get so wound up about EVERYTHING.

The decline of the BBC is symbolic of the decline of the nation, imo.

Vacuous, dumbed-down, heavily biased, politically correct.......

Forgive me for finding that upsetting...

Sorry, can't agree with that. The Sports Desk is not petty or biased.

Time was the tables were not updated until the fixture lists came out (which the BBC officially recognised as the day the divisions were formed).

In fact not only is BBC Sport not biased against Saints, you would be amazed at the number of Saints fans who work for BBC Sport, even after the move north to Salford.

And as for the time taken to update material, I'll try and explain the modus operandus of BBC Sport website.

The BBC gets live video feeds from all Premier League matches, so reporters are able to maintain match reports in the office while watching the feed. That also applies to televised Championship matches.

Outside of Premier League games or live televised Football League matches the BBC is entirely dependent on the speed of its supplying agency, the Press Association.

The Press Association uses local stringers to supply their match reports, or if you are talking about the live text updates, these are provided by a network of correspondents - normally former players - who dictate their commentary down a telephone line to PA copy takers. The BBC (and Sky who use the same service) are at the mercy of the speed of PA.

BBC Sport would love to have its own reporter at every game, providing text updates, but then people would complain (quite rightly) about the waste of BBC resources.

Complaints about the BBC's services are likely to be given more credence from those who pay for a television licence, which gives them something of a right to complain.

Jeez Alpine.

Let's be fair to alpine, it is getting very difficult to do his job.

Saints have just got promoted twice in 2 seasons, we're back in the Premier League, investing heavily in infrastructure for the future and we've just broken our record transfer fee on one of the most promising young tallents in the football League. That was at the beginning of June too, so he can't even complain that we're leaving it too late.

I think we should be supportive of alpine instead of slagging him off. Come on alps! You can come up with some world class negative, inaccurate bullsh*t if you truly believe in yourself! :D

SFC is a Tory club so it's not surprising.

If this forum did the whole 'kudos' thing you would be getting a hefty dose my friend for that 'liquid refreshment spit inducing' post... genuine LOL at this end :)

How come some teams have got little green 'moving up' indicators next to their name, some have red 'moving down and Saints have 'no change'? Pretty hard trick to pull off in the close season with 0 games played....

I thought it was weird too, but with the exception of the promoted clubs they're all relative to their finishing position in 2011/12. Stoke are alphabetically where they finished last season.

Oh, and the reason the BBC's site is slow to update is because they pull their score data from the "live text" pages now, so it feeds that page first, then refreshes the score onto the divisional score update page, then (apparently manually) onto the Football Index page where you can sort by division. It has absolutely nothing to do with which team is playing, only how regularly the match live text is updated.

It's pretty inconsistent though, as their score updates for all leagues on the right of the page update at a completely different frequency to those within the "League" page. e.g. if you're in the Championship live scores page, the scores on the left are up to date (within the relative slowness of the live text updates), but the scores on the right of the Championship Index page are really behind.

Apparently

So Alpine laughing at others perceived triviality. LOL indeed....

Meanwhile, in the land of the level headed.....

Yeah, but you get the feeling from them that it is grudging acknowledgement.

Jaw dropping stuff. Truly jaw dropping.

Yay....our own 'home' page on the Sun website too.... http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/premteams/southampton/

:)

Now we have the embarrassing fact on show to all the world because we threw away the title last season:

League Titles: Division Three 1959-60 (they could at least have included out Division Three South title 1921-22 and maybe the 6 Southern League titles. (1896-97, 1897-98, 1989-99, 1900-01, 1902-03, 1903-04)

There was definitely someone writing pro-West Ham rubbish on there last season though... some of it was quite funny, too!
