Messi tears Brazil a new one

I'm proud to announce that I was at that game. I'm also proud to announce that as he was cutting across the field before his third goal I said to my buddy next to me "look at this!" and then when he scored I stood there with tingles. I just stood there. Tingles. I could not believe how amazing it all was. There was something sublime about the whole day, the 82,000 fans (pretty close to 50/50 in terms of crowd, too), and the whole "we know this is a friendly but it sure seems like we're trying to win this regardless" atmosphere of the game.

This will always be a favorite memory.

Nice video, but in what year did they banish man marking and tackling in South American football? Must have missed that announcement....

Same with La Liga...not sure why but most clips i see of his goals are defenders diving in at him. As Chelsea showed twice, stand up to him and don't dive in and he isnt that effective at all. I guess thats an art in itself this defending lark.

Makes great entertainment though these poor defences :smug:

Ronaldo did and he's improved since then.

he's best player in the world at the moment imo.

Messi 2nd...then take ya pick from Iniesta and Xavi.

Messi wouldnt score as many in the prem league. The majority of Spanish based teams defending is usually guff from the games i watched last season.

Sorry but that's just complete rubbish. Messi scored 50 in La Liga, next best Ronaldo with 46, if defending realluy was "guff" why couldn't players of the undoubted quality of Benzema, Falcoa & Higuain score more than low 20's last season? Surely they should be walting round these moronic defenders and banging in 2/3 a game right?

Also Messi has 15 assists (2nd only to Ozil) compared to Ronaldo's 12

For the Argies he's scored 11 goals and has 11 assists in 15 games. Ronaldo has 7 goals no assists in 13 games for Portugal.

Basically the Messi v Ronaldo "contest" isnt even close. Only idiots come out with the old "could he do it against Stoke on a wet February blah blah blah". Persoanally I just feel blessed to be living in a time where I can sit back and watch him play, smile on his face, staying on his feet and doing magic on a football pitch whilst being a humble guy off it. He is only 24 and already up there with Pele, Maradona, Best, Puskas, De Steffano, Cryuff, Zidane etc. Can't wait to see how far ahead of them he can go.

I guess you confirmed my point slighty...Benzema, Higuain scoring low 20s and Ronaldo scoring ****eloads all played for the same team...BUT I get what your saying and they are both great players so don't think I'm saying Messi is gash!

Ronaldo for me is the better all round player and if either had a choice to sign for Saints I'll go for him everyday. If only eh.... ;)

think'll we agree to disagree on the Messi/Ronaldo debate before the thread turns into another 'usual' TSW thread :)
