bowers-sfc Posted 9 June, 2012 Share Posted 9 June, 2012 Anyone else had this happen? If so how did you go about getting it repaired? Costs ect. Dropped my 3GS from about 2ft and the glass has cracked. Still fully operational though

Bearsy Posted 9 June, 2012 Share Posted 9 June, 2012 Ah yeah this used to happen to me all the time when i had the iphones 3gs! Was you playing Tiger Woods Golf on the toilet? What I used to do was put selotape over the cracks so i didn't get splinters and then when i got time take it down to the phone shop and they charge you like £60 or something for a new glass. Turns out it was a flaw in the design - it don't happen with the iphones 4 i've got now.

Al de Man Posted 10 June, 2012 Share Posted 10 June, 2012 You can buy a kit from eBay which includes the tools you need for less than a twenty five quid. Youtube is full of instructional videos. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/iPhone-3GS-Replacement-Full-Front-Glass-Screen-Digitizer-LCD-Display-Tools-/221044034520?pt=UK_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item3377404bd8 Something to bear in mind is that there are three parts to an iPhone display; the front glass (which you've broken), the digitiser (which is the touchscreen bit) and the LCD display. The front glass and digitiser are stuck together with adhesive and you will never get the glass off the digitiser without breaking it. I've done two or three, but not had much success because of things like the tape not holding the new screen in place so it fell out a week later ripping the cable and damaging the "home" button as I was putting one back together. Got the kit myself as a car ran over mine, everything was going okay as I put the glass back in but it turned out it had done too much damage already. I took it to Apple who swap the phone over for a new one but charged me £80 in the end for another 3gs. Since got the new Samsung (which I don't like)
Saint-scooby Posted 11 June, 2012 Share Posted 11 June, 2012 There are plenty of kits out there. I would suggest you also replace the battery at the same time, the 3 is a bit tricky but there are plenty of vids on the web to help you along the way. If you get stuck PM me I will point you in the right direction
